I know the struts are sold out right now but be patient and Amazon will restock. Don't buy the ones the ones that are $160. That is a seller that is trying to capitalize on this.

Just installed the ones for the frunk!! Its works just like you say!! Keep up the good work 👍👍👍
You broke the internet, all of the 110 pound struts are sold out. Nicely done sir.
I ordered and already installed the ones for the frunk from your last video and they work great! Put these items in the shopping cart list since they are currently out of stock this morning when I checked. Thank you for figuring all this out and I will be sure and send more subscribers your way when possible.
I did the same auto-pop on both my trunk and frunk all for under $20 and like 15 minutes of work... Since 4 years ago, the price on these trunk struts had gone down a lot. You now can find some at Amazon around $20. What I did was to swap out the back trunk struts with these spring struts. And it worked out great other than it is now harder to close the trunk. Then I swap the original back trunk struts with the frunk struts. The back trunk struts are perhaps 5cm shorter than the frunk struts but they are much more powerful and will be able to lift the front hood with just one of the old back trunk struts.
Thanks Brian, for digging deep into the the Trunk and Frunk struts to achieve "auto open". Finished installing the Trunk just now, and greatly appreciate all the research and engineering put into your parts selection.
Brian, you are a genius. Even though the government shutdown is hitting us hard, I am compelled to give you a small donation for all your efforts. I've learned so much by watching your videos. Brilliant!
This is a mod that I've been waiting for someone to come up with! Definitely going to be doing this! Thanks so much for the work that you put in Brian!
You deserve a ton of kudos for doing the legwork. Literally one man making a great solution for Model 3 owners. I'm getting my Model 3 next month and I'm looking into doing this for the Frunk and Trunk right away. It's a cheap no brainer! All the credit to you!
Sir, you literally changed my life! From the auto front trunk to this! Thanks for your persistence and ingenuity. Keep it up Brian! - Los Angeles
10:47 "I'll leave that up to another company 5 months from now." Oohh burn - haha. Great video. The peace symbol through the trunk opening was a nice touch. Thanks for all the research and information on these trunk/frunk struts Brian. It's appreciated.

Really impressed. Hope Tesla takes note.
At first I wasn’t a fan of upgrading the struts, but I’ve come around and see the benefit. I’ll now be doing this to my frunk and trunk. Thanks for all you do!
I appreciate you taking the time to explain this stuff and go through the headache (as i'm sure it is) to buy different struts to find a solution. I'm ordering your kit and i'm going to work on some sort of "boot" to go over the spring to prevent dirt built up (clean freak). Will keep you up to date on what I figure out. Many thanks and keep going!
Brian, pioneers always take the arrows. Another trail blazing video. This was my biggest complaint, auto truck opener should be included at this price point. Well done!
Awesome! Think I'll wait about 4 months and then make a video showing the amazing new trunk auto-opening solution and sell the parts on EVAnnex. Well, maybe not me, but someone probably will. Don't worry, we all know you are the originator! Thanks for yet another Over-the-You-Tube (OTYT) upgrade!
Great little modification! Just did it and it took me about 10 minutes. Works perfectly. Thanks for the tip.
After waiting a few weeks for the springs and struts to come off back order, I was finally able to get the trunk done, so I know I have matching and trunk and frunk self opening capability. Thanks Brian! Keep bringing the mods!
Very good idea ! so simple ! I feel that a lot of (future) Model 3 European owner (I'm french) will use it ! Good job ! really .

Nicely done, sir. Very clever and simple mod you figured out.

Thanks for doing this research. Just purchased the front struts and the material for the rear. Looks like an awesome and useful mod.
Brian, I did the mod and everything works perfectly! I love how the trunk does the intial pop open and then slowly goes on to fully open. I'm going to think about doing the frunk next. I will re-watch your video for that mod. The frunk metal is so thin that I worry about the extra pressure to close but if you/re happy then I guess it should be ok.

I just wanted to share my experience following the steps in this video: #1 The stock struts did NOT come off easily on my Model 3. I did release the back clamps while maneuvering them off. It cracked my glass and tore the weather stripping on one side when it finally came off. Same tightness issue when removing the new struts to go back to stock. Maybe my Model 3 has slightly different specs? VIN 13xxx #2 The StrongArm 4129 struts made the trunk fly open much faster than his does in this video. It would hit you in the face if you opened the trunk manually. I had to bring it back to spec since this is not what anyone would want. #3 The trunk does NOT close as flush as stock. The trunk is lifted from the body slightly and it is noticeable. Now I hope I'm not stuck paying over $1k for a new backglass. :(

Finally got all the parts needed for this mod. Like you said, piece of cake installation but appreciate all the research, experimentation, and little tips you included so there were no surprises. Works like a champ every time! The one possible downside...since there’s more tension now, it’s not easy to close using the inside grasp handles. Usually requires me pushing down from the outside. And my black model 3 shows handprints pretty fast. But great mod, great price, easy install thanks Mr. Wizard!

Being an engineer, decided to modify the auto-trunk opening approach to see if I could create a better option. I believe I have succeeded. Though the struts I am using are a bit more expensive, they are a better dimensional match to the original struts and the springs I am using are a much closer fit (less slop on the rod) and also require no washers making it a much cleaner install. I modified the below struts with different end connectors to match the original strut length so the trunk opening height now remains the same (maybe even a few tenths of an inch higher). Here are the parts required: 2 each: www.liftsupportsdepot.com/lift-supports-depot-st140m1-160-gas-charged-universal-lift-support/ 4 each: www.liftsupportsdepot.com/qty-1-10mm-ball-socket-nylon-end-m8x1-25-black-with-black-band/ 2 each: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LBTMPCH A bit more closing force is required (with or without springs - springs add no noticeable effect) but it works great. This option should also have no problem with an added spoiler. Let us all know how it works for you if you decide to follow suit with these parts. Cheers!

Only had the car for three weeks and have only had the struts in for two so can't provide long term feedback. However, these struts are high quality and heavier than stock so I have no worries there. I suppose the springs could lose some tension over time though my guess would be years at a minimum and they can be easily replaced. You could also use a different spring if that was a worry. I did add one washer to each side to give it had a bit more initial throw length: www.ebay.com/itm/US-Stock-50pcs-M10-10mm-304-Stainless-Steel-Metric-Flat-Washer-Washers/371863960263 Made the add as it didn't raise once on when parked on an incline. I tried two but there wasn't enough room and it wouldn't shut.

The goal with the model 3 was to make it a cheap car to repair. If you have any issues down the road, the fix will be mucchhh cheaper than fixing a model S. I like that it's simple with tech and none of the luxury. Luxury vehicles will always cost more to repair and depreciate quicker.

My wife and I took delivery of our Model 3s last Saturday. First thing I did when I got home was do the frunk and trunk mods. They work beautifully!
Worked on both trunk and frunk with a major improvements on alignment with the body too!
Just did this today: what a difference! Of course my local HD was sold out of 5/16" and M8 washers of all kinds - except neoprene, so I got that, package of 2 for 94 cents. It's not like I use the trunk that much; if it wears out I'll replace it. The process was simple indeed but I still checked your video several times to make sure! THANKS BRIAN!!

thanks for your hard work for finding the good fit struct and spring for us.
This is so cool. We just bought the model 3 and the frunk and trunk not opening automatically was a huge miss on their part. This is a simple and genius easy fix. I just ordered the parts with your link and will be installing as soon as they arrive.
You seem to be the right guy to invent and install a sort of "physical buttons package" to control audio volume and other stuff I don't like to be searching for in the touchscreen UI. Awesome video!
Thank you for the suggestion to ensure we dont crack the glass on the edge,,,gonna place a nice cushion around that edge as precaution.....
Thanks so much for doing this engineering and testing. Don’t think I will use it but it is nice to know it’s possible if I decide I want it in the future.
Got all the parts and everything works well thanks to you.
Nicely done and well worth the wait. Congrats Bryan!
Great modification brother. Well done, and very well executed. Great addition to those who own a Model 3. By the way don't forget you have Negative Brian. I think he can be your funky friend.
Got my rear struts replaced like your video and it works great. I never would have thought of doing this. I did mine a little different with the washer. I used black nylon washers and I put it on after the spring. Reason is, when the spring is compressed it is pushing hard against the plastic tip. Not sure if that plastic tip will withstand the pressure of the spring over time so it might help keep the spring from digging into the plastic tip. I only had two washers otherwise I'd put a wash on both sides of the spring. :)
Thank you so much for your thorough research. This is a very good and a very informative video. I’m off to Amazon......yay!
Don't have a Model 3 and probably won't for years but I have a playlist of your videos saved so I "pimp" my M3 whenever I can grab one. Thanks for all you do!
