    Very nice. I'm huge french fan and your video is very funny. For information the actor who dubbed Xander Berkeley is Philippe Peythieu, the same guy who dubbed Homer Simpson. what's more funny is that the actress who dubbed Linda Hamilton is Véronique Augereau who dubbed Marge (and she dubbed, among many others, Jamie Lee Curtis in True Lies) and in real life they are married. For John Connor, it's Emmanuel Garijo who dubbed Eddie Furlong. He will become later the French voice of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Attack of the clones, Revenge of the Sith and Clone Wars series. And for the anecdote, Arnie personally approved the French actor who dub him during his casting by phone. He asked to the voice acting director to have him read several lines and he heard Arnie conclude by saying: "he's got a job!" he will become his official voice for most of his movies.

    As an American born in Belgium, this video really hits home. I remember the T2 VHS standing on our shelf growing up, it really is a better packaging than the American version. That blue, man! John Connor’s voice really was great, and all the voice actors were great. I love that you gave them all a shoutout, and that even as an English speaker first, you picked up on the subtleties of their voiceover work. This version travelled to many other countries than France, as the francophone world is pretty wide spanning, from the Caribbeans, to North Africa and even Vietnam! Much love for all that you do!

    Wow, this comment right here is why I make this show! Thank you so much for the personal story and the terrific insight. When you say this version traveled to many countries other than France... do you mean just the dubbing? I'm assuming the case and packaging would be different, depending on the distributor in each country. Does that make sense? Also, thanks for that great info! That's a pretty good observation about the T-1000 art looking kinda Oscar-ish! And I'm glad you're digging the new facial hair! Unfortunately, it's already gone, haha... I filmed this episode awhile back, even before I filmed the Brad Fiedel interview... but it was way more tedious to edit together than I expected. I had to shave my face for work in order to be fitted for an N95 respirator, so the day before I decided to try a new facial hair style for filming this episode. The next day I shaved my face completely, and a few days later, I took the photo for the thumbnail and photoshopped the mustache on, haha. I'm glad you liked it, though! Fantastic episode! Got me laughing out loud in the middle of the night 😆 So much fun and interesting stuff! Don't know where to begin, so let's get to the movie first. The lady who voices Sarah Connor does a seriously great job; Silberman, T-1000 and most of the smaller characters seem alright; Miles Dyson is rather meh, Cigar Biker is terrible, and French Schwarzenegger is a NOPE 😆 About John Connor, it's an interesting debate. There is a similar thing with the Spanish dub. He's obviously voiced by an older kid, and that makes him sound... well... older 😅 I feel like the French actor is a lot closer to the original performance (and better) than the Spanish one, but I might be biased, because the Spanish version makes me cringe so much these days. But we might as well discuss that if you ever make an episode on the Spanish version 😛 Back to the French version and the debate on which approach to the character is better, I see the appeal of John Connor having a deeper, darker voice, but, at the same time, I feel like John is already depicted as too mature for his age, so his fragile, still childish voice is our only reminder of the fact that he is just a 10 year old boy, dealing with all this shit on his own. I personally think that his squeaky pre-teen voice is adorable, and it gives a special dimension to the character that none of the dubbed versions I've seen can recreate. The way his voice breaks when he screams "MOM!" at the steel mill... there's so much power in that! I love him ❤ Anyway... more stuff under the cut 😆

    Hey Alice! Thank you so much for the kind words - I'm SO glad you enjoyed this! As far as the French V.O. for Schwarzenegger... I didn't think it was too bad! But maybe that's because I heard it so many times while working on this that I just got used to it, haha. The Spanish version: Yes, I'll DEFINITELY be covering it, because over the duration of this show, I'll be covering the release of T2 from EVERY country! What I'm really curious to find out is whether or not they used the same Spanish dub for the releases in Spain, Mexico, and Argentina (I haven't watched them all yet). I'm assuming the one you're familiar with is the one from Spain? Regarding John's voice - I think I agree with you. I like the way the French kid sounded, but ultimately Furlong's voice just made more sense for the character. And you're right - the way he screamed "MOM!" in the steel mill is just SO good! So raw and desperate and passionate. It's perfect!

    Another great video and loved the camera guy. I'm curious about a few things and maybe a French speaker could clarify: What kind of accent does Terminator have? In English, it's of course Arnold's obvious thick, Austrian accent. Does the French dub have a foreign accent? How about T-1000? To my American ear, it sounds like he's speaking very clean French (neutral accent? I might be wrong) just like Robert Patrick speaking English. I would pose these questions to the rest of the characters, as well as the other language versions of T2 (Russian, German, Japanese etc.) Side note: Our son was obsessed with Terminator last year and he was 11 at the time. He was watching youtube videos about them, buying collectibles, you name it. So we finally caved and let him watch T1 and T2 (with parental guidance of course). He liked both, but surprisingly he wasn't super pumped after T2. He was actually sort of disappointed that T-100 wasn't "menacing enough" compared to Terminator. He said Terminator just looked scarier and more menacing seeing parts of his skeleton, and red eye. T-1000 was just not scary! Also our son is super squishy and sensitive. I was expecting him to BAWL his eyes out when Terminator lowers in the lava...nope...not ONE tear. He just gave a mediocre "yea he enjoyed it but he was hoping for better." (and here I am on the side a 34 year old wiping away tears after seeing this movie for the 100th time).

    That's a great question about the French voice actors and the accents! I hadn't thought about that. It makes sense the computer stuff doesn't get translated because computer stuff was often in English (specifically the terminal interfaces of the 90s, or anything that is supposed to be futuristic). By keeping it in English it makes it more authentic. The synthesized voice is only used when there's something important for the audience to understand. The "match" on the clothes wasn't that important and would have broken the dramatic build-up of that scene. FYI, dubbing US movies is a bid industry in France and goes beyond translating the original script. They usually adapt the script to make the sentences match the mouth movements. Some actors are specialized in dubbing (dubbing isn't easy). This is not the case here but in some case they completely change the move title. For instance, "Hangover" is not an English word French people know and there is no single word translation, it's more of a saying "avoir la gueule de bois" (have a wood face). So the movie was called "Very Bad Trip" (these actual English words). Finally, TV ads for movies are not allowed (this was done to protect French movies with smaller marketing budgets). So the only way to advertise a movie is on the radio and on billboards. Therefore, a lot of marketing money goes into redoing the default US billboard.

    Also, I definitely believe what you're saying about adjusting the script to match the mouth movements, because I was SUPER impressed by that while watching this. EVERYTHING lined up. I should have commented on that during this episode... oh well.

    Those voice actors did their job very well. I've always thought an excellent way to learn a new language would be to watch movies you know inside and out in that language. For no logical reason I was expecting to hear the GNR song in French. Really the very 1st line you got a problem. I'm feeling like "fit to burn" doesn't have a direct translation.

    Hey, I've had the exact same thought!! I've been learning Spanish via DuoLingo on my phone, and my plan has been to start watching some of my favorite movies in Spanish to try and reinforce what I'm learning and to learn more words. That's an interesting point about translating the song! I hadn't thought about that.

And I'm also working on a new studio, which should make the entire process faster and easier to produce episodes, so hopefully I'll be able to get them produced and released more quickly.

    @@Tfor2show WOW, we are very impressed that you took time to answer in French :-) Congratulations as everything is perfect. One more info about T2 in French : we noticed that your version seems to be accelerated compared to our French version. Maybe because the 24 fps (theater version) was read in a 25 fps for TV. That's why uncle Bob has a "sharper" voice. Another info : Studio Canal (a French company) was the producer of this movie and, in 1991, Canal + made a HUGE buzz, especially during the Festival de Cannes. That, maybe, explains why T2 was such a big hit in France. Congratulations (again) for this great video !!!! Bisous de France :-)

    @@LyLuLeCreative @LyLuLe Creative Ah, I noticed that the film seemed slightly "sharp" in pitch. It may be because I use a multi-region VCR to digitize all of the T2 tapes I have from around the world. I'll have to pay closer attention to that in future episodes to see if I need to make any adjustments before publishing. Also, thanks for the info about StudioCanal and Canal+! I've been meaning to read up on them some more. I'm so glad you enjoyed this! Be sure to stick around for more... the show has been a lot of fun so far, and I have a TON of episodes planned. And many more countries to "visit" as well! 😀 If you haven't yet seen the episode all about the "Cigar Biker" character, be sure not to miss it! It's the one I'm most proud of so far. 😁

    I wonder if there's a Dutch dub. It'd be interesting to see if they made little changes in dialogue or even the plot. That said, I can't imagine watching Terminator 2 in Dutch and enjoying it. In the Netherlands we don't use dubs a whole lot any more. It was quite common in the early days of television but I was born in 1981 and barely remember seeing dubbed shows or movies. Of course, cartoons and movies for kids still get dubbed for obvious reasons. I often feel like Dutch dubs are sub par and if I *have* to use a Dutch sub, I will look to my Flemish neighbours and see if there's a Belgian Dutch dub because they do a much better job at it. I could rant on this for a long time, I have very strong opinions on dubs versus subtitles and this is not the place for that.

  • @Tfor2show

    @Tfor2show

    Actually, you can rant away on this topic because I find it all very interesting! As far as the Dutch version is concerned - unfortunately they only produced a Dutch subtitled version, as you suspected (well, on VHS anyway... perhaps a Dutch dub was produced later for DVD?) and one day I'm sure I'll cover the Dutch VHS on the show, as I do have it... but I'm guessing it'll be brief, because without any voice acting to analyze, we'll basically just be looking to see if any dialogue or plot points are modified, as you alluded to. So, we'll see!
