Tenor Guitar Tunes played by Tom Kimber

Музыка

A couple of new-ish original tunes for tenor guitar played with brand new strings. I tuned the instrument to itself and haven't needed it to be at 440hz yet, so the result is a tuning that is very flat of GDAD, but sounds nice! As usual it takes a while for me to think up names for tunes, any suggestions are welcome. The reaction at the end is relief in response to finally getting through the B part of the last tune, after a couple of less than ideal performances of it.

Given there are only 12 notes and hundreds of years of musical history, there's something magical about an original instrumental tune. Have loved this piece for months-beautiful. Thank you.

"only 12 notes " Multiplied by countless note lengths, time signatures, rhythms, styles etc. The permutations possibly exceeding the number of stars in the sky. 🙂 I know when I think I've come up with something original it often turns out to be a blatant soundalike of something else. I embrace my false memory syndrome sometimes. "I'm sure it went something like this. If it didn't it jolly well should have." Then maybe I'll look it up to see how out I am. 🙂

You make that tenor sound real nice. I like "1845" on your Northbound album.

Really enjoy your picking. I try to see the fingering but difficult camera angle. Maybe try 2 cameras and blend them?

Great playing! Some suggestions for titles if they have not already been decided could be “intertwined” and “The Untangled Scarf”

Is your Ashbury guitar the sapele model? I am considering purchasing one (greatly in part inspired by your videos!). Thank you. Keep putting up these lovely tunes.

Sounds awesome, I'd not expect you to have these tunes written down, but just in case I'm going to ask. I had to choose (blindly cause I had to buy online) between Blueridge BR40T and Ashbury tenor recently, and I went with Blueridge cause it's basically a Martin 0-18T clone, but Ashbury sounds really good in your hands. Anyway, great tunes and great playing!

Thanks very much, I don't have them written out at the minute, but when I inevitably do, I'll let you know! They're both good, I used to work in a music shop that stocked both. My favourite was the Ashbury but my colleague and fellow tenor guitar player preferred the Blueridge, so not much in it!
