If you fell into a cold deep dark river the first thing you’re going to do is take off your shoes/boots and jeans to make it easier to swim/float. I’m sure the cold water would have put him in a panic to survive. So I wasn’t surprised that he was found without them on.

@teresamiller5060 Do you know how hard that would be, especially if the river level was up and the current was strong? He was over 6' tall. Most people who wear jeans and boots also wear a belt. Have you ever been wearing jeans 👖 while they were wet? They are very difficult to take off because they cling to your body especially if they are tight. Boots don't come off as easily as tennis shoes. I've always thought foul play. The family has announced that they will be speaking 🔊 soon. Prayers for answers for his parents. They need to know what happened to Riley after he disappeared from the sight of surveillance cameras.

I wish the officials would stop fooling around with this poor kids family. He drowned and had a larygial spasm which closes your airways to prevent water from reaching your lungs. Honestly he probably fell in the water and was holding his breath and drowned struggling to pull his pants and boots of trying to be able to swim. Anyone who has been clothed in water knows how hard it is to move in water while clothed. Rest in Peace Riley. May your family find peace with your tragic accident and these officials leave them alone. They are going to end up putting some poor innocent homeless person in jail for life because THEY want this to be a murder.

Nashville is covering their fanny. The tourist destination, money making machine is being threatened. This death has caused me never to visit Nashville.... ever. I had planned to go this or next year. I've never been, but because of Rileys death I'm swearing off Nashville. Im sure the many celebrity bar and restaurant owners are speed dialing calls to the mayor's office insisting on big time damage control. This town is filled with honky tonks, bars, alcohol, liquor, music, late nights and partying!! Thats what its known for. This is how an impaired young man was treated???Thats what the city is freaking out about. Lost revenue. Some bad guy saw Riley struggling. Riley was an easy mark. A soft touch. Like a wounded animal he was attacked. They wanted his wallet, $$ cash. There was an altercation. The thief killed Riley. Took his boots, took his jeans to wear or sell. Took his wallet. Went threw it for the cash and threw it aside. Rolled Riley into the river and walked away. That's what I believe happened. Give this investigation some time. Eventually, the truth will be found out and told. Has Luke's fired the minimum wage bartender who sounded the alarm about Rileys questionable conduct, or the security guard who made the executive decision to throw Riley out the door? Rocket scientists they are not. This tragedy should never have happened. Riley, you are in my heart forever and always.

@@MG-ot2yr Yeah, or even something like he went to relieve himself in the water but maybe accidentally stepped in? So decided to take off his boots and pants because it would have been freezing or because hypothermia set in and he started feeling hot because of it. Even if he just fell in when he was relieving himself, his pants would have already been slightly down and who knows how tightly his shoes were on in the first place? In any case, tumbling around a river for 2 weeks with debris and foliage as you mentioned-it isn’t impossible for clothing to come off. I agree that there's something weird going on. That said, not necessarily. There's dry and wet drowning. Wet drowning is far more common, but dry drowning is found in 10-20% of autopsies. Dry drowning occurs when a little water is inhaled and causes muscle spasms (laryngospasm) in the airway, which blocks airflow and water and stays sealed until cardiac arrest. In a wet drowning, the laryngospasm relaxes after unconsciousness due to hypoxia, water can then enter the lungs leading to cardiac arrest.

We always see river currents taking houses from there foundations. Not at all impossible for his clothes to be washed ofc in the current. Cowboy boots filled with water are heavy and could easily slip off while struggling to swim or surface, or perhaps he kicked them off to get rid of the weight dragging him down. As someone mentioned, him with his zipper down and falling in while taking a leak could explain it and is much more logical an explination.... also, he was not wearing skinny jeans. The surveillance videos show his pants over this boots, meaning boot cut jeans.

He was coherent enough to be walking around, and not falling. He spoke to a lady, and was coherent enough to be polite by calling her ma’am. He spoke to an officer, and told him he was okay. He managed to do that without making the officer think anything was wrong with him. I am still wondering if he was running in that video before he saw the cop. It looked like it to me. This has foul play all over it.

Is it possible his pants & boots being gone support the notion of micturition syncope (fainting while urinating, a condition which is exacerbated by alcohol)? Perhaps he opened his pants to urinate in the water, fainted, which made the pants come off easier. As for the boots perhaps being dragged along the river current makes it easier for shoes to be removed. Such a tragic situation.

The current in the Cumberland is very strong. His boots would easily come off if his body snagged on debis. If a homeless person wanted those clothes, he would have took his socks and shirt as well. And what if Riley had unbuckled his pants to go number 2? And thats what caused him to fall and tumble down a 30 ft embankment into the river? Sadly I think it's simply a tragic drowning

Wrong. Even with pants to ankles, they’d be incredibly STUCK when wet and TIGHT. Not loose. But with boots on… pants won’t even go down too far. Everyone knows there are myriad factors going in that point to absurdity in this case. It seemed completely unnatural from the first clue one.

2nd autopsies are usually nothing more than a review of the initial autopsy report and medical records. In 22 years with the Medical Examiner as a death investigator very rarely was the body ever viewed a second time. The organs and probably the brain have already been cut so there is nothing left to autopsy a second time and there are no fluids or blood left to collect for toxicology. If the remains are decomposed that is an even worse scenario and sometimes it is difficult to determine cause and manner of death unless there is some kind of trauma found. In some of the cases I have been involved in the 2nd autopsy was done by a pathologist who does not even live in the same state. Interesting case, hopefully they can figure it out.

They make boot jacks for a reason,pull-on boots are quite difficult to get off by hand.Jeans will not come off over boots.TRYING to remove boots after you’ve fallen in the water will get you drowned. The recovery of these items is the key to understanding this tragedy.

Urine tests for GHB and GHB analogs must be performed within 12 hours after ingestion, and blood tests must be performed within 5 hours. With that in mind, there would be no reason to test his blood for GHB.

Anyone who has capsized on a river knows how you immediately consider to get your shoes and pants off to effect better swimming. It's instinct. Plus pants can be manipulated into a crude flotation device and shoes reduce kicking power. Even getting sleek below the waist is no guarantee against drowning when in moving water.

Slender as he was, all it would take would be for his body to be floating head upstream in the river. The boots fill with water and are simply tugged off. Same with the jeans. Anything with elastic -- socks, boxers -- would be less apt to fill and float away.

The boots would have filled with water after falling in. He would have felt the extra weight on his feet immediately. He's already in a panic from what's happening and would desperately try to remove them so they don't drag him down. Probably tugged his jeans down a bit the process. Current-caused bumping and snagging of his body would have removed them the rest of the way.
