Couple interacted with Riley Strain on night he went missing: Family friend | Vargas Reports

A close friend of Mizzou student Riley Strain‘s family said a couple visiting Nashville interacted with the 22-year old shortly before he went missing. "The mother reached out, she saw Riley. She ... made a comment ... like, 'You're not driving tonight?' and he goes, 'No, ma'am,'" Chris Dingman said during an interview on NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Reports.”

Where would he be? Just chilling waiting to make his entrance? Ask God all you want for help, but the kid was drunk and most likely fell in to the river. Some of you are so easy to go after the homeless like being homeless means you are automatically a criminal. I would love for this young man to just show up and tell us a funny story, but I hate to say it, this happens more than we know and social media is bringing it to the front of the line. I really do want this young man to be alive and I feel terrible for his family and friends.

Riley looks like such a kind and gentle young man. He looks like he's very intelligent and naturally polite and respectful. I'm so worried about him. I have a sweet son who is 22 too, and honestly he and Riley are similar in their mannerisms, persona or aura and even their looks. I wish I could have been there that night, I would have made sure he made it back to his Hotel safely. I feel bad for Riley that he was all alone in that condition in a strange city in the dark. It really breaks my heart. I hope he is found yesterday! Or last week!, but sadly I'm very concerned. Especially after his debit card was found down that steep bank before the river. I hope he's not suffering and that he feels everyone's love and urgency to bring him home with his family, where ever he is❤

Makes me think back to my college days - lots of drinking starting on Thursday nights through Saturday. NO DRUGS. Never a problem with any of my group, no dwi’s, no accidents, nothing - and believe me, we could get pretty plastered. We were too intoxicated to even tell how intoxicated other people were - making me think Riley’s frat brothers may have been in the same condition. I cringe when I think back about those nights - but it was a different time. - and in what is now one of the most murderous crime ridden cities in the world. I can’t believe how lucky we were. (Oh - and one time I actually got stopped by the police - and one drove my car home while the other officer drove me home. It still boggles my mind that happened). I feel so bad for this Riley and his family. It could have been me or any one of us who have partied.

Phone last pinged there, credit card found on the river bank there, and the area was void of people and other pedestrians. You can see vehicles turning onto the street where the cop is walking. All I can think is that he either accidentally fell in the river, got himself locked in something that he can't get out of, or was intentionally harmed or taken. I thought he might have walked the wrong way from the hotel because he was angry or hurt by what happened, not just because he was too drunk or confused, that's why I think maybe he could've went into something or somewhere to sleep it off like maybe a storage unit, a boiler room in a facility, a trailer, anything someone might lock from the outside. I remember passing out in some room when I was a teenager (maybe a boiler room) that was in the laundry room of an apartment complex just cause it was warm and I couldn't get home (I put something in the door so it wouldn't close all the way or I could've been locked in there for days or more). Anyway, praying they find him.

I don’t drinking; everyone around me knows that, but I get asked this literally every day. And it’s annoys me. So careful. That said everyone assumes everything is a drinking accident. Like no joke every running accident including when I got hit by a car running a red light was assumed to be a drinking accident. Calling me a stupid drunk college kid for assuming the car would stop at the red light or for getting tangled in some trash on the sidewalk or breaking my ankle on a small bottle. In this case, we see the kid fall and potentially hit his head. Was he drunk or was it the hit to the head? Idk and that does affect things as people act differently when drunk vs hurt. He doesn’t seem wasted to me as while I don’t drink I’ve seen my friends get wasted enough and I can tell when someone is still doing alright (At least better than an actual medical professional).

Why are they only talking about half of what the witnesses said happened? I get that it’s all second and third hand info, but taking about the parts that you don’t want in there isn’t going to help. I really don’t think protecting the frat brothers helps either, especially with the new development where the witnesses said Riley was talking on speaker to at least two people when the woman asked him if he planned on driving when he told her no, he also said he can’t even walk straight and proceeded straight as he was being told by the people he was on speaker phone with. They were telling him to keep going straight according to the witness. She also said as they were getting in to their car, they witnessed Riley throw up, which corroborates other witnesses statements. So why leave that all out and say that Riley only said no ma’am??! As a parent I understand looking at these boys as kids, my daughter is 21 graduating college like Riley in 2 months. I worry like crazy about her, now even more now because this fraternity is acting like an organized Gang rather than a group of upstanding citizens so stop with the BS, it’s not helping. 😵‍💫🤨🤦🏻‍♀️

It seems like from How he was stumbling and how when he was running and fell. He was down for a minute atleast it looked like. Did he hit his head? No way he was that drunk off of one drink. I was drugged at a bar in my 20’s took one shot and blacked out. It’s possible someone put something in drink. And then he had no idea what was going on. I have no memory of the night it happened to me. It seems like he could of slipped into the water, there is a current there. He could of got stuck on the current and under the water. That can be why the watch and phone stopped working at the same time. He went in the water possibly. Check the bottom of the water.

Police are not going to open up and tell a family every single detail they have about an open case, because of the chance of it eventually turning into a criminal trial for kidnapping or murder. If things do end up in a criminal trial, the defense will be looking at past news reports for anything they can use to have jurors disqualified or evidence thrown out, based on the information that was made public knowledge at some point before the trial. I knew someone who was murdered in Nashville, and the murderer eventually accepted a plea bargain for 45 years in prison with no option for parole, in part because the widow was asked to not openly talk about what information the police gave her, and she and her family refused to give reporters anything more than a short written statement asking for privacy and thanking everyone for their prayers and concern, and thanking the police and the concerned citizen that called the police to report having seen someone that matched the murderer's description, which led to the arrest being made. The Nashville reporters put the widow through hell, because they made it clear that they thought "no" meant "come back tomorrow to see if I have changed my mind about doing that interview".

Bars have staff that keep things under control, because people that have been drinking can get very rowdy with little warning. If they think things are in danger of getting out of hand, they will tell the people that they think are causing the problem to leave. Refusing to leave or arguing with them about it only reinforces their opinion that you are the one causing trouble, and they can then file trespassing charges against you, if they choose to, for not complying with their request to leave. Might not be fair, but it doesn't have to be, because the bar has to deal with liability insurance and multiple government agencies regulating them, and they would rather have a few customers angry and saying they will never come there again, than be forced to close by their insurance being cancelled or their license being revoked.

So he was trying to help somebody, but there was a miscommunication and he was asked to leave. I'm sure if that had happened his fraternity brothers would've mentioned it and recorded it on their cell phones and perhaps the bar could show the surveillance of this incident of Riley helping somebody and the timeline of the miscommunication unfolding from that night. Riley Strain was looking back while running from someone so did the person who he had a miscommunication with leave the bar and follow him out after he was escorted out? Maybe if the person he was trying to help stepped up and said what happened and gave a description of who the other person might be then they could check the surveillance to see if that person matching the description had left near the time he was escorted out to see if he was being followed and chased to see if the miscommunication had escalated and led to something more.

I can go back on Google history & it tell me exactly where I've been since 2016! Maybe he has Google maps & it could show, too.

It was reported last week that his phone quit providing a signal on the night he disappeared, and that the last location it showed was around Gay Street, near the Woodland Street bridge and James Robertson Pkwy bridge. The last video showing where he was, that has been released, showed him walking north on Gay Street, maybe a couple hundred yards south of where his phone quit providing a signal. A hammer or a fist-sized rock is all that is needed to disable any tracking device you think might be in a phone. Tossing it in a deep river can also cut off the signal, even if the phone is waterproof, and Gay Street runs along the bank of a river that is deep enough to get a lot of heavy barge traffic.

@@pinkfreud62 The information about the phone was in the Nashville news on Monday, so it wasn't a surprise when the Nashville news was reporting on Tuesday that boats and a police helicopter were searching the river and riverbank.

Yep. Someone did something. Something about this story doesn’t add up. Drug test his body. 6’7” dude needs much more than one drink to be stumbling drunk.

Nothing from Riley’s fraternity brothers has been discussed. None of them have came out and said hey at this time Riley got kicked out the bar we all stayed at that bar he left we didn’t leave when he did etc. They haven’t said nothing about getting back to the hotel and Riley wasn’t there. Like no1 thought were Riley was? Seeing he was alone. Idk so many questions. Not blaming them but it be nice to hear more details and info.

It was reported that they called the police to report him missing around the middle of the next day, after they woke up and couldn't find him at the hotel. Some people have complained about how much time it took for the police to start doing anything, but the group he was with apparently didn't attempt to notify police for some time, and there was at least one local news report indicating that they initially called the department that runs the jail and were told by that department who to contact to report a missing person.

You cant be that messed up on your own in public. You just cant. The chance of an accident or becoming someones prey are exponentially higher. As a woman, I've never chanced that. It could be he got drugged & didn't realize because of it the condition he was in.

Yep. They are brushing everything under the rug here. If he was a woman that was at a bar with a group of men, had one drink, stumbling around in the streets, bank card on river bed, shirt found on a homeless person and body found in river, they would be looking for a suspect right now.
