My passion with astronomy made me post this DIY work for Primitive Barlow lens for the magnification of refractor telescope with PVC pipes.... I got a zoom of nearly 30x with this in my DIY telescope. I watched the craters of the moon with this... and Orion Nebula also looks like a hazy cluster of clouds with this.... Enjoy..! The cost of all the lenses 2 convex, one concave 5cm focal length and the front lens say 100mm dia 75cm focal including PVC pipes 4" dia, and 2" dia with 2 unions sockets and a bit of pipes comes under Nrs. 1000 rupees or USD 10 only. Try to get the pipes from KABADI's as far as practicable and wash and rinse them properly before use.

    It was so good to know your appreciation on my video... The barlow thing happened by sheer luck....and the wonderful thing about this DIY telescope is....it is good to enough to peer into Orion... just need to build a sturdy stand... a must...! Being an architect I am little poor in mathematics....try getting 2 convex of 25mm and one concave of 15mm all of one 1" dia... the barlow focal would be less than 10mm then... and get an objective of 100cm 4" dia... and your magnification should be +100 then... Cheers...! Ashutosh...!

    It should not... if at all it does... try reducing the aperture of both Objective and barlow ...by paper cover... or you can get achromatic objective lens... quite expensive though...! 3in barlow and objective would not mess... unless you try more combinations.... make sure to do a stand as your magnification is very large... a slight movement will shake the whole world through your telescope.... Cheers...!

    Hi Debesh, As per our previous conversation, I found some lense from online shopping. Objective lens- dia 100, FL-600mm/60cm. For eye piece- concave lens- dia 50mm. FL-15cm, 20cm, 25cm, 30cm, 50cm. Convex lens dia 50. FL-20cm, 25cm, 30cm, 50cm, 75cm, 100cm. After doing a lot of r & d, I can't get the straight image. The images are same as before, up side down. Please suggest how can I get the straight image, as I see in my eye. So that I can successfully make the DIY project. Regards, Uday.

    Use 50mm dia , FL-100 cm convex for front lens, try getting 100mm dia and for eye piece use 25mm dia 2 convex lens and one concave 2.5cm focal length. You may get those lens on one online shopping as well. The image would be still upside, to get erect image you shall have to insert one convex lens same dia in front of eye piece combination.... with trail and error. It seems the with the lens that you have now for eye piece, would make the telescope very long..... Sorry for inconvenience.....! Keep trying...!

    Not very clear, is it focal length or Dia. Also specify in mm. We can find focal length by simple experiment, watch the video till the end. Add set of 2 convex and one concave reduces a lot of errors of color. But make sure have small hole with a washer if your lens are more than 10 mm dia.

    Ideally it should be 25+10=35cm, however it may differ by 1 or 2 cm, depending upon the distance you point. This combination would not give you much magnification. Magnification is always Front lens Focal length/ eye piece focal length. this is only 2.5 magnification in your case. Try using 100cm/ 4" lens for frontand use combination of 5cm F eye piece convex/ concave combination for eye piece to zoom into the craters of the moon. i really appreciate your efforts however.... So are u using the third lense as an eyepiece? also what will be the effect on magnification when i use a convex lens with less focal length i.e. 3cm in place of the third lens?

    Diopter is 1000 divided by the focal length of the lens. So the objective is 1000 mm focal length makes it 1. And the eyepiece is 25mm focal length would be ..... 1000/ 25 works out to be 40.

    @debeshbhattarai

    7 жыл бұрын

    100x magnification is pretty large though. I would advise you to use smaller eye piece of of say 1cm focal length, for that you can use 2 convex and one concave lens to create a DIY barlow. Use 4" dia 100cm focal length objective lens , preferably chromatic lens, which helps to correct the color dispersion. Please note the lens smaller than 1" dia is difficult to handle.

Try ordering lenses online for chromatic doublet ...for 70mm, cost around 80 dollars in IndiaMart lens supplier. Try finding eyepiece of say ..suitable one starting from 4mm to 20mm.

    For front lens 100 mm dia , I must not have paid more than 5 USD few years back, I do not remember exactly. But these cheap lens have chromatic aberration problem, which you can decrease by reducing the aperture size by 40%..... by using paper cover around edges.... gives a sharper view also. Try to find 150 mm dia cheaper lens, you would be able to get 90 mm effective aperture after correction.
