Make your own telescope ( with image erecting feature)

Making a telescope is easy but most of the time the image we get to see is inverted in an astronomical telescope. It not suitable for watching anything terrestrial and in this video, we will make a telescope which has image correction feature so that we use it to see things on the land as well.
I am using a Schmidt- Pechan Prism taken from a monocular to add this image erection feature. There are numerous ways to do it, but this is what I could come with.
Most of the supplies can be found in your local stationery, so you can make it too.

If you want to see the moon, Then you don't need the Prism. And yes you can see the moon. It doesn't mater if it looks inverted. But if you want to see stuff on land and not want to use prism, then you might need to get the lens i have mentioned in the video about Galilean telescopes.

I guess, it not in focus and the image is getting smudged and thus thus looking overly bright. Try and focus something on the ground.(image will be inverted in your case though)Once you get a good grip on focus ability .. then start looking at the moon. Sometimes you may need to increase or decrease the length of the scope as well.

For telescopes, magnification of the objective and eye piece are not measured. The magnification of the telescope itself is measured as focal length of objective ÷ focal length of eye piece. This also hardly matters in astronomical telescopes, because the eye pieces can be changed as we wish. So the diameter of the objective is taken ( as it indicates the light collecting capacity of the telescope).

Thanks Kiddo. To make a telescope, look for two magnify glass. One Big and one small. The small one is usually higher in magnification. Place the big one away from you and the smaller one closer to eyes . start moving the bigger piece closer or farer to get the focus of the image. the image is usually inverted and this might be a little tricky. To invert the image you can use Schmidt -Pechaan prism or porro- prism. This prism is hard to find and you can get one form mobile zoom lens . Do you want amazon links?. Bro, its quite hard ,or expensive if you go looking for it in the shops or online. I made it using scrap parts. Anyways, I used two double convex lens. A big one and a small one. I didn't check the focal length before installing. So I am not sure. But the bigger lens is a normal magnifying glass you get in shops and the smaller one sometimes is in the same lens holder. If not you could also get one from google card board lens. The prism i have used is from an old mobile phone zoom lens. Schmidt-Pechan prism Check this link to know more- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schmidt%E2%80%93Pechan_prism

I found these lenses in toy projectors, some I found from broken camera lens...magnifying lens I got from the shop...its normal one. I was not doing it with any scientific calculations. I was just trial and error. Any two magnifying lens , a big one and small one will work. For image correction you will prism which can be found in the zoom lens I have shown in the video. You can also find small lens in it.

You can point at the sun if you put a solar filter at the front of the telescope. Pay attention to protect your eyes by wearing solar eclipse viewing glasses. @@VIDEOEPPO NO. It was totally cloudy and couldn't take a single decent shot and very disappointed. I was planning to be in Dehradun for the event but the Corona lock downs ruined all my plans. Good consolation I went to Ooty (specifically to avoid all the clouds by going higher in the mountain top) last Dec 26th and got very good views and snaps of the annular eclipse start to finish. It was a correct decision as it was raining heavily down in Coimbatore and the surrounding areas at that time. I also watched the total eclipse in Aug 2017 and the annular eclipse in May 2012 both in the US.
