1. Please don't discard the spent chemicals on the ground. Kindy Collect them in a bucket & neutralize the highly alkaline solution with HCl to a PH of @ 7.5 to 8 & pour them in a Suitable drain. 2. You have to use more dilute solutions of Silver nitrate. 3. I have a suggestion. See we have to precipitate the Silver on the glass & not anywhere else. So, first cool the mixture of AgNO3+ NH4OH + NaOH. Dont mix the glucose here. You could then warm the mirror to @ 40-45°C with a hair dryer & first pour a dilute solution of glucose on the mirror. Finally, gradually pour the alkaline Silver-nitrate upon it later. This way I think you can make the silver-deposit on the mirror alone & avoid wasting it.
There is only one thing: please do not just put chemicals into the garden or soil. You do not know what there will grow in future. Everything should be neutralized or be kept in a glas … or am I wrong?

Realistically, the only potential problem that I see here is that a high concentration of silver ions in a piece of soil (compared to normal) is going to kill any bacteria, fungus and many plants. But it doesn't pose a horrible toxicity problem for people or animals. Not the right way to dispose of it, but these are some of the less worrying things to dump.
God bless you my freind, it is the desire to learn that drives our souls.
Great work 👏
Thanks for sharing your process with us!
Mantap. Sukses terus bro
Old school baby! Very COoL.
Terrific to see you slivering the mirror!!! The coating process went on a bit too long. I find even wth the commercial Angel Gilding process, the coating becomes hazy if I try to get a thicker coat. Next time, stop the process a bit earlier. The spray process uses less chemicals too.
Wonderful demonstration, Thanks
Amazing I'm inspired, keep doing the great work... Now I'm curious to know what this beautiful mirror can see!
Very use full vidoe bro ❤️
Thanks for making these detailed tutorial.
Hello, how can I spray this solution on the work piece? If you answer me, you have helped me a lot.
If you drag a cotton ball gently over the surface (in the solution) towards the last phase of silver deposit you can prevent the black bloom from sticking to the mirror. Or, stop sooner before it begins to form.

It's like magic
I used to have a half can leftover from back in the 70' s but it dried out. I needed to re silver a small 4" adams in the 90's and even all over the world I couldnt get silver nitrate. Here in shreveport there used to be a blackman that remirrored but hes past away i think his name was Mr.Bains. his shop was in allendale
Thanks a lot brother i used your video tutorial n watched closely and made 2 old jonga jeep concave mirrors... Please suggest me how to protect the back of the mirror after silvering... What exact paint i should apply to protect the silver or mirror shine and make it scratch proof? I think normal oil paint won't work here or may be chemicals in it can ruine the silver coating itself. What you suggest

A couple of words of advice, practice your videos before recording, go through the motions without actually adding the chemicals, everything will flow better. secondly, as others have said, please don't just throw your chemical residues on the ground, others have mentioned this too...

Жыл бұрын
@@astrovillager I think you had mentioned in your grinding video that you'll not parabolize it. If you leave it at F8 sphere, the Peak to Valley wavefront error will be about 1/2 waves which is less than Rayleigh's minimum standard of 1/4 waves!

@@biswa145 thanks, i am new in mirror making. But i kew over f/8 spherical is ok, so what should be the f ratio of spherical mirror?
@biswa145
Жыл бұрын
@@astrovillager Well, there is no single focal ratio for good spherical mirrors. It depends on their aperture. For a 12 incher, it might be somewhere around F15 which is ofcourse way too big to handle and which is why mirrors are parabolized.

Thanks!! I should recommend you not to silverise so long time. If you keep glass in silverazing solution long time, silver will cristallise on your mirror face. And you got foggy surface. Get mirror out from silverasing solution right away your mirror begin to shine.

Terrible quality tbh. You will hardly see anything with that coating. And the mirror blank is too thin. You will have shit loads of distortions with this thickness. And yes - if chemicals irritates your skin, surely it will do harm the environment, so no point to "recycle" it under the bench :)
