Joe Justice applies current software development principles to manufacture, achieving extraordinary results in designing a high efficiency and high performance automobile.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Thinking to build the next generation of farm tractor : We need it in Europe ! Farm tractors are very expensive and sold with many useless opinions. And these Farm Tractors could be developpe inside of CUMA. (CUMA are an regroupment of some farmers to buy them specific equipments).

Interesting talk, but I wonder how many of the Wikispeedsters know anything about scaling out for mass production. If they tried to setup mass production they would run into the problem they illustrated where the cost of a mold for a door has to be amortized over several years. They avoid that now by building one car at at time. The agile processes that they borrowed from software development teams are typically used on small teams of less than a dozen engineers. And of course developing software is far different from mass production or any other manufacturing process. It is well suited for building prototypes, but there's a big difference between a prototype and a large scale production system.

I think he's more about changing long held beliefs and looking at new ways which can be incorporated into mass production but the development will be faster and cheaper.

+YvesHanoulle - Exactly which of the ideas in the video has Toyota adopted? It's been a while since I listened to this Ted Talk but at one point he talks about one worker teaching a new worker what he needs to know about engines in order to build a car. I wouldn't want a car built on an assembly line whose workers didn't already know what they needed to know about engines.

+YvesHanoulle - Here's a reality check on WikiSpeed's manufacturing prowess: "We have encountered a block in our engine module development and need your help to continue.Sadly, we’ve failed to deliver a car a running engine since car 002. Our only successful customer deliveries since have been to groups that opted not to purchase an engine module. We haven’t been able to get stable and durable running engines in any of our cars since car number 002. Car number 002 was built by an AWESOME ASE certified master mechanic with experience at Mercedes Benz and with custom fabrication. With that success, we began taking customer orders with him as foreman of our prototype assembly line. Shortly after, he left Team WIKISPEED to found his own auto-repair shop in his home town, a dream he’d had since childhood."wikispeed.org/2015/01/wikispeed-needs/ WikiSpeed sounds like an interesting learning project for people who don't know much about cars or manufacturing processes. I wouldn't want to buy a car from them, however.

One of the best videos I saw in months. The wikispeed car currently costs $25,000, still a little pricey for people with low income, but considering it only uses 1 gallon per 104 miles, it is a good investment. And the car looks really cool :D

actually......"Food Based Dinner" is not a ridiculous consideration given the current issues involving synthetic derived "food substances" such as nutrasweet, etc. Can we safely say that all the food available on the market is "food based"?

mama's boys? Some of the greatest minds in the world are actually mama's boys! Have you heard of Grigori Perelman? He's Field Medalist (highest award in Mathematics) is a Bum that still lives with his mom, but guess what? He's the Greatest Mathematician in the world! Maybe we need more Mama's boys to run this world and it would be alot better place!

living off the system and being bum? What is your definition of someone not living off the system? because as I can see, we all are dependent on the system for our welfare. Business Owners depend on the money of consumers, and the labors of their employees, while employees depend on the income provided by the business owners. To me, EVERYONE lives off the system! You sound like a Republican!
