The Theory of Creativity | Duncan Wardle | TEDxAUK
Duncan Wardle believes everyone is creative but that it's getting harder to convince people of that. On the TEDxAUK stage, he talks about the importance of creativity and why it will be the one core human element to compete in a world that is becoming automated faster than we can think.
Duncan Wardle is the former Head of Innovation & Creativity at Disney and founder of iD8 & innov8, a Design Thinking consultancy helping companies embed a culture of innovation and creativity throughout their organizations. Prior to launching the startup, Duncan worked for the world’s most creative company, the Walt Disney Company, for 30 years, during which time he served in various executive roles such as Vice President, Innovation & Creativity, Vice President, Global Public Relations, and Vice President, International Marketing & Sales. His work took him from London, to Paris, to Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Mumbai, and Shanghai. In 2008, he was honored with the “Outstanding American Citizen Award" at the White House and in 2014 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Edinburgh University. He also holds the Duke Edinburgh Award, presented by Her Majesty the Queen. Yes indeed, we are all creative and to keep it alive we just need the experience “ to swim in a sea of love” - because it is the source of the creative dimension - of being - becoming everything - Love is the source of opening us to have trust and courage to express and be curious, brave and playfull and very alive - Its all about giving and receiving aliveness everywhere And remember there is a creativity that is about joy of being alive - love and light
Absolutely love this talk and everything it stands for... every work place needs to adopt creativity as it will lead to innovation and therefore keep businesses in business. Also it can be great fun. Creativity will be the number one sought after skill of the future!

the guy is full of it.. the time to get into Disney is now longer than ever.. last time I went it took 6 hrs to make it to my first ride... from the the time I pulled off the hwy to the time I hit my first ride 6 hrs.... will never go to Disney ever again

What if I want to be creative and I show up at work in pajamas? My boss asks "Why are you wearing pajamas? Those are unprofessional and against basic decency or etiquette" And I say, "It's creative! Pajamas make me feel more comfortable at work! Nevermind the decency." "I'm sorry, it's indecent and makes our work environment too comfortable and informal." If everyone is non-conformist, then where do the rules go? Creativity must have limits. We shouldn't be afraid of creativity and the change it can bring, but conformity is important to some extent.
Feels good to say everybody is creative but they are not. Perhaps this guys definition and mine are different though.

You don't give yourself enough credit! Have you ever solved a problem around your home using a tangible or intangible tool that was not meant for that purpose -- that's creativity. There are many different definitions for creativity in the literature, however, the one that seems to percolate more than others is doing something that is novel or new has some usefulness or purpose. Whether it's writing a song, developing an app, or designing a tool -- all are creative endeavours. Creativity is part of the human DNA, how far or much we care to develop it is our choice, but we all have it.

This didn’t age well. Speaker is talking about Disney parks that are built around improving the guest experience.
The first remark, you are addressing a Muslim audience, and the first thing that came to my mind is when he asked them about their Christmas souvenirs, which they never had. I think he either was thrown into an unknown audience which I doubt because it looks like in one of the Muslim countries, or the presenter forgot to think about his audience.

Instead of getting something out of this talk, you quickly found a way to shut it down. Why bother watching creative talks?
Chaos and style of presentation lost me, what is it all about. Some shining ideas, but overall not my cup of coffee or waist of time.
