Traxxas has certainly helped a lot of people get into the radio control hobby. Traxxas puts a huge effort into showing off the radio control hobby to massive audiences through many of their motorsport partnerships. Once people get into the hobby, many continue with Traxxas and some go racing. Although many Traxxas vehicles are used for fun, some have been raced. The Traxxas 4-Tec 2.0 Ford GT RTR is a well designed platform that many should find easy to tune, drive and even compete with. In this video, we should you some of the cars neat features and talk about what could be if your local shop, track or even a group of buddies decides to get together to form a 4-Tec 2.0 spec racing event. My dad has the 4tec 2.0 vxl edition, I tried to competed by upgrading my team associated apex. I took out the original brushless motor and installed a 2700kv sensored sidewinder. it was scary, my wheels blew up so I decided to use the 4tec wheels and I found it had better traction. And I’m planning on using the old brushless motor to convert the original 4tec into electric.

Yes. I loved racing the old Tamiya TA0(1 or 2) series of cars, but the cost of racing those cars eventually became ridiculous. If they can actually keep the cost of spec racing low, without it eventually creeping up-- I think that it would draw more racers.

Keeping the cost low has worked for our Cleveland track but mostly because the group has set up spec class that prevents the need to upgrade constantly and so no wallet war. This keeps everybody friendly so its as much about camaraderie as it is about racing, same iniita guys and growing for 5 years now, we also have and indoor track for Kyosho MRo3 brushless and we have open classes as well on both tracks but preventing a wallet war (spec class does this well) keeps it going. Thats what I hear as the biggest complaint of why groups break up or dwindle if your not doing this at the pro level, keep it fun its still competitive, a spec class and we are looking for an outdoor spec car like this, hobby grade quality, parts availability etc, this looks pretty good, probably go brushless though.

I have turned mine into a VXL model. I put a brushless motor in it and got VXL rated tires. I have recently bought a 3 cell Lipo for it and I am waiting for the high speed gear ratio in the mail. It already flies without the new gear ratio so it will be crazy when that comes in the mail. I also have the traxxas Link and 2 cell batteries so I can return to the normal speed without messing with screws and gears.

Are on road cars really that fun? I mean without having access to an on road rc track? Seems like it would get boring- driving in parking lots and stuff.

I have a Slash 4x4 and an HPI Sprint 2 flux. The truck gets used much more because I can run it through the grass and dirt in the yard. The street in front of the house seems very confined when you have a fast touring car so I usually take it elsewhere to run it wide open and its hard to do that on a whim. The car looks good on the shelf though.

There's a track in NJ called DirtRunners that ended up doing this, the rules are fairly straight forward, Stock XL-5 model, with some play on what bodies are and are not allowed. I'd love to go up there but man 2 hours is a really long drive. On road is hard to get people interested in, Especially when stock class 17.5 racing costs entirely too much. I'd love to be proven wrong though. It would be really cool to see tracks all over the country with hobbyists showing up with the 2.0.

My local group spec races the TT02. I personally do not care for it and have wonder if a kit car would be better (like the TC4). I started with and still race slot cars, so I have preference for customizability. Too often being having a very tight spec class causes people getting lucky with quality. I want to avoid having people not be competitive simply because their motor happens to perform better than someone else's motor.

Rich I think I agree the 4-Tec 2.0 is one hell of a platform I love mine. I have vxl rubber tires for it and for fun days a set of drift tires on the orange wheels from Traxxas. Funny enough I run a TC3 body right now the white old school one and it looks awesome with the orange wheels. The nitro cooling holes help the electric I guess too haha 😂 in the body

Hi Hi! I know this was posted some time ago so i don't really expect a response but I would greatly appreciate one!!! I have 4 traxxas Slashes two 2wd & two 4wd. One of each is a basher and the other a racer at my local track. recently, I have moved, and I have found myself in a place where I have more asphalt than I have dirt and I wanted to know in someone’s honest opinion, how is the four tech 2.0 in the parking lot as a parking lot basher. I don’t really need something extremely competitive I just want something that can have fun with some buds on lunch break. I was also curious if it was a good idea to increase the spring rates on the cars. Thank you.

okay okay but parts! HPI was bought out and parts are a problem our group loves HPI but not going to get into a parts nightmare, Traxxas except that Tower Hobbies is being sued so you can't get all you traxxas parts there but they are readily available elsewhere. No, part availability is paramount
