I only recently recovered from the TAZ finale (just listened to Balance recently) and now my heart is broken all over again

Imagine Lucretia's grief each time she went to check on one of them and they were gone. She journeys to Raven's Roost only to find it in the process of being abandoned. She asks the closest person what happened, and she's told that the merchant's district was destroyed by a deranged governor and that everybody who was in it is dead. She shows up to Taako's next scheduled show, but his wagon doesn't show up. She asks the authorities if they know what happened, and they tell her that he's on the run for poisoning and killing half a small town. In her final stronghold of sanity and peace, she takes a day off to go to the beach and recuperate, but... Merle isn't there. She tracks down Merle's house. Perhaps Merle is sick and didn't go out that day, she thinks. When she inquires his location from his family, they tell her that they can't find him either. He went out one day and never came back. All of these friends, who she was supposed to have kept safe, now missing, a criminal, or presumed dead. Imagine her surprise and joy when, out of nowhere, Killian comes back with three random reclaimers, and they are somehow *all three* of those friends who she had thought lost to her. Imagine the weight that was taken off her heart when she realized that they were relatively fine. And then imagine her having to go through that whirlwind of emotion again when she sends the team off to Wonderland and she's told that only two of them returned alive.

Justin McElroy has absolutely obliterated me multiple times with that one word. Every time it brings me to my knees. Hearing Clint’s proud chuckle in reaction is just beautiful icing on the saddest cake.

I think one of my fave moments is when Justin improvises the "who" and you can hear Clint's impressed chuckle in the background

Griffin has managed to make static white noise one of the most horrifying things ever. Also the ending of this episode never fails to give me fucking chills. I think this is my favorite episode of all time.

If it hasn't been specified, I like to think that Taako and Lup are identical (As does the rest of the fandom, it seems). The irony of Barry saying "I can't remember her face" to Taako just hit me and took some of the drama away from this scene for me. Yet, at the same time, added more...? Like, the voidfish is so powerful, that even though Barry is looking at the face of the person who he still knows to be Lup's identical twin, he still can't fathom what she looks like. Also, I kinda wanna put Taako in a Time Out corner for saying "You're not my mom!" when the Director asked if they were all okay! lol

Robyn I'm thinking that it's like the time where magnus was revealed to be the statue of the red robe. He saw that it's his face but his mind could not make the connection that he is the red robe. So Barry saw taako's face and he could not remember that that's how lup's face looks like. He just didn't know lup's face anymore... I made myself cry again. Crap.

Honestly I never really thought of them as having the "same face", even if they were identical.

It's been over a year since I made this animatic (July 9th) and I have to say every single comment brings me to tears. I remember sitting down after school every day for a week planning out shots and glitches and little animations , I remember piecing this together in movie maker thinking about the future of Taz and where the story was going. And I remember before that sat listening to the episode knowing , damn I've got to Animate something for this it's so emotional and this podcast means so much to so many I've got to throw my hat in and make something before it's all over. I never expected such beautiful kind responses I'd receive I never expected so many responses! I forget how lucky the adventure zone is to have such amazing fans and SO MANY amazing fans and how incredible lucky I was for this animatic to get noticed. Everytime I receive a notification of a response/comment I feel blessed I've been lucky enough to be part of a creative , kind and caring community of podcast listeners so I just wanted to say: One year later : Thankyou again for all your comments every single means everything to me. I can't imagine forgetting about one of your best friends while you're sitting right in front of them. I can't imagine what it's like to forget absolutely everything in the middle of playing cards. I love how you draw the imminent fading of the memories. Like, the slow consumption of the pixellation. You've done such a good job with this and I'm blown away by the sheer quality and scope of your work.

the scenes of the boys forgetting their past are sooo well done; but what really got me is the gentle visualisations of lucretia's actions and emotions. truuuuly well done. so much attention to detail... i uhhhh cried harder then when i listened to the actual episode (which was 30 minutes ago); this hit much closer home. loved it

LUCRETIA BOUGHT A DUCK FROM MAGNUS. There is so much freaking heart in the story Griffin and the McElboys have crafted, and this is such a great tribute because it really captures that heart. The sadness and the love. Bravo and thanks for sharing.

I got such intense shivers when Griffen said “This is it!” And the OG music started playing.

"..and I lost Dear Dear friends because of that decision" I was able to hold back the water works but that line gets me every time I hear it.

During the last few moments Merle seems almost toxically positive, but it really makes sense when you think about his offhand conversations throughout the campaign. During John’s existential speech, he says that he believes that if you keeping holding on to joy, you’ll eventually find it. During his spa visit with Lucretia he says ‘if you stand for nothing you’ll fall for anything’. He has a strong belief in (he stands for) the coming of joy and tries to hold onto it almost constantly. Even when the rest of the crew is in moral agony from the destruction, Merle keeps his chin up. It’s not necessarily helpful for the crew, but it *makes sense* Sorry it’s midnight and I’m in ramble mode Maybe none of this makes sense but I took the time to type it so it’d be a waste to leave it

I literally cried like 16 times watching this. I can't believe how incredible it is. The ghost of Lucretia reacting as she wishes she could react to them. I die.

The Davenport one is actually the one that hit me the hardest. What Lucretia did to him is AWFUL.

I love how Merle can go from wholesome dad friend to hippie uncle

everytime i hear lucretia's "I love you, I love all of you" i tear up

In April of 2021, my uncle passed and the message "not all exits are made equal" ran through my head through months and it still does some days. But this show really pulled me out of such a rut simply because of the words of wisdom from Clint. Taako's loosing of Lip and family hit so hard simply because I could relate to him so personally. TAZ did so much to help me.

Fuck. Just with this, I realize how good taz was and how amazing the brothers are. I legit cried in the final episodes because I felt that narrative so hard. Even 2 years later, this one snippet hits like a brick. Such an engrossing story.

The Adventure Zone is a bad show because it made me cry real hard

I just realized how much more lucretias little speech with Merle at the spa meant to the story

holy shit wow that was absolutely amazing, the transition from the ipre logo to the bob symbol made me tear up. i love your art!

That's okay I didn't need my heart anyways. TT-TT Great job with the animatic. Loved the bits of static popping up as memories were erased. Then the Lucretia ghost in a few of the Director's moments with her friends. Or the typography. Just little details that were a nice touch overall.

Okay I know this video is three years old but the scenes slowly dissolving into static is SO GOOD and really adds to the emotional impact of everything and aaaa I just love this video and your art a bunch even though this whole sequence makes me cry!!!!

I've been having a hard time seeing Lucretia as a good person. I think it's Davenport and Lup that do it for me -- she made Davenport a god damn punchline and doomed Taako to memories of isolation, of loneliness. Just... Ugh. My siblings are my world and if someone did this to me, I'd probably wring their neck, but Lucretia is just a so well-developed character that I'm AAAAA

I can't hate Lucretia, My siblings mean absolutely everything to me and I never fail to cry at parts regarding the 7 birds because they're a family, she hurts me because I know she never wanted to hurt them and did know how She was an idiot, we all are except, her one point of idiocy affected herself and her family I know it sounds strange, but when something you did is hurting you, you think "this must be right, this must be my sacrifice" and watching the others be so happy added to this But it wasn't true Lucretia is ultimately an anti hero, and I love her, I hate her too, and that's what makes me cry It doesn't help that I love john too, tell ya what, let's all blame Captain Captain Bane Man fuck that guy

I can't, she didn't know what would happen to Davenport, but if you claimed if she did know she'd still do it anyways as a necessary sacrifice I would agree. Still, she's not a bad person, she was a desperate, hurting person with good intentions, but made a lot of mistakes. She messed up a LOT and did a lot of bad things but she only intended the best, and thought she could make up for the wrongships. She made mistakes and learned and developed through them in the end. Good people make mistakes too.

Listen to TAZ they said. youll laugh they said.

Barry begging Taako to kill him so that he can remember always makes me tear up a little bit.

The “I’m Davenport” bit always tugs at my heart strings and gives me chills Griffin edited it so well to show a man having his entire identity erased

THIS IS IT. and hen the episode ended and we all went “GOD DAMNIT GRIFFIN!!! HOW DARE YOU!!?! FUCK!!”

Every time, every single time I hear "I'm Davenport..." I tear up, I just teared up a second time typing this.

The use of the hanged man in the tarot deck game was an awesome little detail and it works so well. the sacrifice lucretia had to make and the time she had to wait before bringing her family back into her life, really great symbolism!

i am SO EMOTIONAL. THIS EPISODE KILLED ME AND ITS SO COOL TO SEE IT ANIMATED.

I haven't cried so hard at a story since.. I don't even know when. It's so beautifully drawn and the story told so masterfully. I always get lost in listening to this. Now I can see it with lovely but sad images. Thank you.

Every time I listen through the last ten-ish episodes of Balance, something new makes me cry. I’ve cried over Magnus and Julia. I’ve cried over Barry and Lup. I’ve cried over the Voidfish. Hell, I cried over John and Merle once. But this time, this time I’m crying about Lucretia. I fully understand what Griffin meant when he said she was his favorite character. The tragedy, the emotion, the rollercoaster. The way her story shadows the entire first six arcs of the campaign, only to culminate in her origins, her fall from grace, and her redemption in the context of the story we already knew. She’s honestly one of my favorite characters in any piece of media _ever._

I've never watched The Adventure Zone but I cried so hard during this still thanks I guess thanks for making me be invested in something I've never seen and crying my eyes out😥

Help I'm crying again- I literally cannot listen to anything from this podcast anymore without crying or laughing so hard that I start crying

Man, you really have to appreciate how stellar a storyteller and narrator Griffin is. Listening to basically all of Story and Song was breathtaking and emotional. You did a wonderful job of creating an animatic that fits that beauty! I loved the little internal Lucretia you put in some scenes, it was a really nice touch.

The music slowly corrupting and Griffins confident "This is it!" Gets me every time.

Every one of these is so good I think my favorite is definitely The Davenport scene I think it best illustrated the way fisher deteriorated them just him trying to hold on to the only thing he had left his name as he slowly deteriorated into just caring out damvenport

I’m just thinking about how truly devastated Lucretia must’ve been when they told her Magnus was dead after the suffering game arc.

This would be a great way to prepare for the new episode- if not for the emotional rollercoaster that goes with it.

i can't stop watching this. It's essentially been on loop since I finished TAZ balance a year ago.

My favorite episode of the whole balance adventure zone series. I can't wait to get more great twists and story telling amnesty!

Beautifully done. Davenport as The Hanged Man? In The Mythic Tarot, The Hanged Man is depicted as Prometheus, who disobeyed the gods and brought light to humanity, and was punished forever. Brilliant and beautiful bit of symbolism, my artistic friend.
