And They Are Beautiful - TAZ Amnesty Animatic - Ep 28

Фильм және анимация

SPOILERS AHEAD!
GO LISTEN TO TAZ AMNESTY EP 28 TO AVOID SPOILERS! TY!
Thank you all for being patient!
My carpal tunnel has become very severe and I finished editing this while being prescribed to wear a wrist brace 24/7 for two weeks.
This was a very long endeavor that I wish I could have finished sooner, but life had others plans so I finished it as fast as I could, when I could, when time allowed, with my hand not great and numb off and on.
This is probably going to be my longest animatic for awhile until life calms down and my hand recovers.
If you haven't listened to The Adventure Zone, please do!

@@Blitzwaffen That moment was beautiful but it didn't carry the same weight, it wasn't like Magnus died in a horrific battle or anything like they thought he would, he just died of old age and was able to reunite with his lost love, that was a moment of joy. This how ever was a moment of absolute sorrow and loss, we never wanted anything bad to happen to Ned Chicane but he put his life on the line in a moment of sacrifice and lost his life in the process, nobody wanted to see him hurt or killed even Aubrey after she found out the truth but we all were shown the loss everybody felt and we felt for this once great man brought low and that will always bring out a greater emotion than we had when Magnus rushed in.

The Adventure Zone is the only podcast so far that has actually made me cry quite hard multiple times. For me, it was the line "I'm heading out for parts unknown" that really got me during that scene, especially upon re-listening. Even though Ned certainly meant it as he's leaving Kepler, the double meaning makes it particularly painful. The fact that Ned is played by the McElroy's father really doesn't help either.

It's abrupt and unfair to Aubrey, who tells Ned to leave only to regret that anger not long after. And it's unremarkable to Duck, who just went off to the telescope. There's so much good stuff in here. Dani looks horrible and terrifying. The scene with Duck tumbling through the water monster and being flung into the air was so cinematic and fluid (pardon the pun). Aubrey taunting the hornets while Ned is talking about how easy small wrongs can escalate. The picture of the three of them and the crack that forms between himself and Aubrey when it falls to the floor. The amazing transition immediately after to the night he broke into her house. There's so much respect for the characters and the lore here and I just love to see it.

The entire buildup to Ned's death is like so flawless. He has everything taken away from him, including the trust of people he was close to. He hid the bad parts of his life so that those people wouldn't leave him, but then those secrets were released at the time that did the most possible damage, and rather than run like always, he tries to fix it. And he does for it. Like man. How did they do that so well? Honestly my favorite part of this campaign.

  • @gamr693
    @gamr6934 жыл бұрын

This is basically flawless. This was my favorite scene, not because i enjoyed what happened in it but because it was such an emotional and perfect ending to a character who's arc had finally been completed. He had a final moment of introspection and, in a moment of pure selflessness and heroism, gave his life for another in service of a good cause. Ned was my favorite character and his death hit me insanely hard in all the best ways. This animation perfectly captured those feelings.

The feeling I get in my gut when Barklay drags Dani away is that she is furiously, ferally shouting and cursing Ned about how they trusted him, and he betrayed them. Because Dani wasn't aware of the Shapeshifting alien. In her mind, Ned ratted out Amnesty Lodge to the town after he had sworn to protect them. "You liar! You were our friend! And you sold us out, and for what? For your own personal gain! Coward!" But Ned couldn't hear any of it because he was already dying before she pinned him.

It's been a few years since I listened so I can't recall all the details but, yeah. When Ned was investigating (an abandoned building?) by himself, he finds a large box (sarcophagus) with a figure inside that he can't make out who it is. He runs away without trying to unlock the box though, (because the monster was coming?) The figure in the box was Dani. That always stuck with me because, from a narrative standpoint, that situation was in a way, Ned's fault. If he had tried to help the figure in the box instead of running away immediately he might have rescued Dani before she went feral and the monster wouldn't have been able to use her to trigger the war. Obviously from a mechanics perspective, I know that Clint had used all of Ned's luck points so he would have either left or died some other way regardless. But I always imagine Ned seeing the box and realizing it was the same one from before, and then realizing it had been DANI that he had left trapped in that building with the monster. It gives his choice to take the bullet extra weight because he would have realized that the only reason Dani was here now, about to be killed, was because he had abandoned her back then. Because he had chosen to save himself and run away. Again. This is the best way that Ned could have died, he chose to not run away for once, something he despises himself for doing. He saved someone Aubrey loved, instead of killing someone she loved. And dying the way he did is one of the few things that could have gotten the humans to stop long enough to question the validity of what they were doing. He probably saved more than one person that night. @@turidrowned

I often make the mistake of getting into the fan content scene of something before I’m finished with it, but even despite that, I had no warning that this was going to happen. I saw the line “you see the stars, and they are beautiful” and understood that it was devastating in context, but I had no clue what that context was. I was wholly unprepared, and this episode hit me like a semi truck right in the feels.

Holy crap. Hooooly crap that was amazing! I am teary eyed, hooo boy. Thank you for making an animatic of the entire scene! It’s really so impactful with the whole thing. There are too many amazing things in here for me to comment on; the expressions, the frames of Dani running towards crowd at the beginning, how Dani looked??? Those teeth and claws and eyes??? Mmmm so good. Ned’s little bitter smile as he seals Duck’s envelope?? Owwwwww. Also, I love how you kinda did a shaky-cam type shot at the end, it works really well, like it’s Ned’s gaze sliding around as he tries to maintain consciousness. AND ALSO NED’S LITTLE SMILE ON “BEAUTIFUL” HOW DARE YOU. I can’t believe you did this animatic in a freaking hand-brace while struggling with carpal tunnel. That’s some serious dedication! I hope you feel better soon. This is an amazing animatic, thank you so much for sharing it with the world!!

Sometimes I wish Amnesty got a longer run, maybe another year or 9 months, I felt like they were just hitting their stride in terms of what Amnesty was, and the long form story they could tell while still doing MotW rules, It wasnt Balance, obv but it was really unique and good in its own way. Ned Fucking Chicane man

This is such a beautiful animatic! All the scenes from their adventures, all the little details, all the heart and effort in it, all the dynamicness present in the movements of the characters... it's so beautiful. I didn't really like ned at first, but this arc... how his character changed and the way he morphed as a character.... it was amazing. And this animatic makes the moment all the more sentimental. Thank you so much. And amazing job.

The Brave is not the fearless one that runs thoughtless to a cause. It is when the fearful man that goes forth and takes the risk knowing they might well lose, but does so anyway. It is not ignorance of it, but defiance of fear that is a mark of bravery. Edmund Kelly Chicane, Status: Brave His friends call him Ned
