There are certain moments when you're doing improv when you have such a great line that you know is going to hit that you're sitting on for the exact perfect moment to say it and when you do there's such a relief and I feel that's what Justin felt. He was sitting on that one and it was perfect

hell yeah it is. especially since taako’s such a goofy character. when he says something serious, shit gets serious. and this was a pure genius move by Justin. like what a fucking power play

My favorite part about it how it Justin was the one to shift the scene instead of Griffin. Even at a story level, Taako details the plot.

I do, too! I honestly love Clint’s reactions to everything - his laughter when Barry’s revealed just makes that scene so much better. Also, I absolutely love your username with everything in me.

I think that makes it worse, because he knows taako but he can't remember lups face, he can't remember that she looks like taako. He can't remember even though he face to face with her twin he can't peice together that they are alike anymore

Exactly my reaction!!! Those same words while crying my eyes out ...
I was totally expecting the NPCs to start losing their memories first (sort of as a cue for the others that the it was going down), so when Justin just JUMPED right into I was dead. What the fuck. I'm sure Griffin was proud, this is some quality storytelling.

The fact that Griffin sounds like he's crying too does not help. A beautiful animatic - utterly heartbreaking.
Thanks! I hate it! I think this is the only “Taako forgets” set at night, and it really adds to the mood. I love the animation when Taako is forgetting, and the magic blast, and BARRY’s tears, and Taako’s expression when he dives after Barry is just heart wrenching. You did so well, thank you for making this!

To be fair, most of them aren’t set at night because canonically it was during the day. This here was a stylistic liberty, albeit an effective one
@kittykake44

Well in canon the scene did happen in the daytime but this does add to the vibe
Justin is the real MVP here for being so on board with the scene and initiating it.
Justin just taking the reigns and cutting right to “who” is legitimately one of the most powerful and one of the best improvisations in the whole show and I got fucking chills when he did it
This is the first animatic that I've seen of this scene where Taako reaches over the edge of the Starblaster towards Barry and I think that small part is what destroyed me most ;-; (THANK YOU THIS IS AWESOME !)

GOD CLINT'S LITTLE CHUCKLE OF SHOCK AFTER HE SAYS "WHO" LIKE BRO SAME GODDANM IM IN PAIN
This is my favorite rendition of this scene, it’s so emotional and just GORGEOUS. I cried again, watching Taako start to forget, as he’s clawing at his memories, just trying to hold on. This is so beautiful and heart wrenching and I Absolutely Love It.

I think by far griffins narration fading into static is the most powerful exiting choice here. You here him, as he describes how panicked and confused taako gets, but the louder and faster he goes, the more it blurs, and as hes seemingly trying to remind the character how hes been on this long unforgettable journey, you just stop being able to make out his voice
underrated animatic. the best depiction of Taako Forgets i've seen yet, very expressive and perfect pace. [italian chef gestures]
The back half of this series gets so real. Having just finished the balance arc, I can say with the upmost certainty that The Adventure Zone has grown to something incredibly profound. It may have started with 4 guys messing around in a DnD game, but it grew to so much more than that. It became a grand tale of characters I was genuinely invested in, with amazing messages that left an impact on me that I can't describe. It could be Griffin's incredible world building, or how seriously the others took their character development, but this series will now and forever stick out in my mind as an inspired and monumental tale.
I'm so glad you included the last part where he forgets Barry while falling. Absolute gut punch. Thank you so much for this.
so, fun fact, i've only listened to the first four episodes of the balance arc. it overwhelmed me to see how many episodes there were of the arc and not knowing which of the brothers was talking (justin and travis confused the hell out of my head) kind of pushed me away from finishing it. watching this makes me want to go and try listening to this arc again because i feel like i'm missing out on so much.

I know this is 2 years late, and I listen to MBMAM so didn't have trouble telling them apart. That said I listened to the first 10 episodes and was super underwhelmed. But after seeing this, I've decided to power through the beginning episodes, if for no other reason than to really FEEL the impact of this scene.

It took me *ages* to learn to tell their voices apart, but I did get there eventually. Until then, I just had to muddle through with context clues.
Lemme just clear my throat before I hold back these tears.
I saw the thumbnail for this and thought, "Wow, I sure would like to ugly cry this morning!" And by gum, you got me crying ugly tears. I absolutely love this.
clint's little chuckle is ALWAYS what gets me tearing up in this scene... UGH this is super good
You know how some people say “man I wish I could go back and listen to something for the first time again”? I don’t need that. This gives me chills every time, without fail. The timing, the lighting, the poses, it’s honestly so well done, and the sheer horror on their faces... god it’s just like you could reach out and touch it.
I love the detail of Taako's memories swimming through the sky, its so powerful
NO. YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED. I WAS OVER THIS.
there are so many, so fucking many, beautiful and heart wrenching versions of this moment. All of them took time and effort and heart, all of them have done it in their own unique way. But this one? This one is my favourite
Watch TAZ they said, it's funny, they said
I... wait, what?! that's... just... why??? man, this is the second animatic I've watched of TAZ and I haven't watched the show. Man, that... wow, I had no rapport with the characters and now... definitely gonna go watch the show.

Lauren Smith how’s that work out for you?
This is so good, it deserves so many more views! I love the emotion on barrys face as he falls, heartbreaking but beautiful!
This is the anamatic that made me go " okay, I have to try this show." ....I was at work today....about to clock in, finishing a sudoku puzzle and listening....and I get to the scene right before this and realized what is about to happen....I wasn't expecting it for some reason. I had forgotten about 10 episodes back, after thinking 'its coming this episode' a dozen times over the whole Lost Century. (I'd forgotten episode numbers after listening for months.) I have to imagine the family next to me was confused as hell when I'm sat there in the middle of McDonald's crying and trying not to make a scene. All I could see was this in my head as the audio played. Your anamatic. Thank you for the love and pain this one animatic has brought me.
It's like super fast acting alzheimer's...creepy.
This is fantastic! I love your representation of the killing spell - it feels very lethal and physical rather than just an abstract magic blast.
this...... has got to be my favorite depiction of this moment.....
This hurts. Like a lot.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuckkk. I finished listening yesterday, ouch, ouch... You have rendered this scene marvelously! I love the lighting and darkness, and how your style lends itself to softness and sharpness. Also omg expressions!!! And omg your Barry design. It's also interesting how different you show them both, and it works so well perhaps showing the elf/human difference. End of gushing, thanks for sharing!
Taako running to Barry after blasting him trying to grab as he falls breaks my heart a lil
LITERALLY THIS IS THE MOST GORGEOUS ANIMATIC I'VE EVER SEEN HOLY SHIT I AM _CRYING_
THIS IS WHAT CAN HAPPEN IN DND?! why did nobody tell me??!!! This looks amazing!!!
Jesus Christ this hits hard. Well done. I guess I'll go cry my eyes out now.
GOOD GOD THIS SERIES GETS DARK.
this is soooooo wonderful..! i really love the purples u used and taakos bright spell looks sooo good against the dark colors. my fav part is def 2:04 - 2:16 with the wispy memories floating away....rreaaally awesome and emotional :+)
i've watched this at least twice before and i'm still in shock my guy. goosebumps. this is just so SO good. especially that last face of barry's. it kills me.
Geez, the terror and trauma in Taako's expressions towards the end... Thanks for tearing my heart out, this is amazing. qwq Beautifully done.
Give me the chills, everytime.
I didn't even tear up listening to this episode. Watching this? It just added a whole new depth to an already powerful scene. I cried and I loved it. This is amazing!

WHO GAVE YOU THE *RIG H T* to CREATE SUCH A BEAUTIFUL ANIMATIC AND MAKE ME CRY
Whelp. I need to actually watch the adventure zone now.
Oh my god, I have goosebumps. The way you draw Barry as he panics and cries and the relief that washes over him as he knows he'll remember. The way Taako's hair and ears and clothes settle again after he blasts. God, this is so good
"I can't remember her face" one of the most unsettling lines i've ever heard in an audio drama.
If it were possible to exclaim "yes!" and "No!" at the same time, I'd have done it as soon as Justin said "Who?"
THE MEMORIES DISAPPEARING OH G O D
This is incredibly beautiful. I adore your choice of colors and the mood that they help set. This is easily one of the best versions of this scene I have seen done. I have grown a bit numb to this after watching so many different versions but you made me realize how tragic this scene was again. It ripped my heart out in the best way. The expressions were so so good. Also I want to thank you for how you did Barry’s death. A lot of people tend to forget that it hurt him, that death hurts. He did not die peacefully and you showed that. You showed that pain beautifully. Thank you thank you thank you for sharing this! 💜
This animatic convinced me to listen to TAZ and now I'm about to start the finale. Just, thank you so so much. What an amazing experience.
Holy shit. This was amazing! The colors and everything worked so well!! I think the “who?” Followed by a face of pure horror was amazingly done
I love this frame so much 2:58, it has such a classical madness to it. like everything about the color scheme and proportions of taako are really something else
Dude I forgot how unnerving this scene was nice job
This scene was so tragic having someone dying was the least sad thing, good work I loved all the expressions.
This is still one of my favorite depictions of this scene, the way Taako not only watches barry fall but also runs over and reaches for him, trying to save him, the expression on his face? damn
Wow I felt like crying when I first heard this last week and I almost started to now watching this. This is one of my top favorite scenes and this animation was perfect.

This is genuinely one of my favourite animatics, just... The expressions? The colours?? Taako reaching for Barry when he kills him??? I’m losing my mind?? This genuinely made me sob this is so amazing
Maybe the most underrated moment in TAZ history is Clint's quiet "HOH HOH" in the background right after the first who.
I’ve waited weeks to get to this point in the series to watch the animatic, and Im glad to say I wasn’t disappointed.
I love these good boys so much my heart is literally broken, constantly, and I am grateful.
Holy shit. Has tried to listen to some Adventure zone previously but never got into it. Was not expecting this and the FEELS.
This damn podcast. It started out as such a lighthearted and funny adventure and it has hit me in the feels so damn hard.
He forgot Lup, but he later remembers Sour Cream, so I think it’s a forgetting-remembering zero sum game.
This is the best animatic I've seen for this moment. Your choice of lighting and color is inspired and heartwrenching. Fantastic, instantly a favorite.
I’ve never cried harder at this scene!!!
this is amazing, easily one of, if not the best animatic of this scene ive seen. the colors and pallete and expressions (god those expresssions) were all so good
This scene was both an amazing piece of story telling and a giant gut punch. And you did an amazing job bringing it to life thank you
This Animatic is what got me to watch TAZ in the first place, now seeing it with context, it always hurt but now it's heartbreaking.
This is so perfect! I loved the expressions, the movement, the style; plus the fact that it's so dark and almost colorless gives such powerful dramatic vibes to it... Fantastic!! Also, I cried a little, I just thought you should know that.
If anyone has never passed out before, when everything went all static and distorted, that’s what passing out feels like.
I have no context and this is amazing
Every time I listen to this I get chills
There are a LOT of moments that made me cry in TAZ Balance but I specifically remember walking to work while listening to this part and I just stopped in the middle of the street when I heard the "Who?" and instantly teared up of shock. We knew it was coming of course, but it was such an organic and raw moment dhfqslkdfgjkfd I love your rendition, it made me cry all over again. Other comments have said it before but the fact that it's set at night adds so much, and their expressions are just gut-wrenching and heart-breaking, it's INCREDIBLE, seriously
I’ve seen a few interpretations of this before, but this is by far my favourite- it encapsulates the pure terror and anguish so well
LGDLGDKGD I come back to this one sometimes and I think,, we hadn’t known lup long at all, she’d been around just one arc and I just remember, even knowing that these years were forgotten, the shock of,, learning how much taako and Lup were part of eachothers hearts and how she was just. Gone. He didn’t struggle to remember or have her slowly fade like Barry. She was just. Gone. Like a whole section of his heart just. Blocked away and hidden. Balance is so so good. This comment makes no sense. The art is gorgeous 😭 the emotion is so strong
I've seen this all over tumblr and wondered what it was, guess I have to listen to it now.
Coming back to this after 2 years is crazy, because this is the animatic that introduced me to TAZ. I found it by accident and it captivated me. Whatever this was from had a heck of a storyline. Thank you Fel-Fisk, for getting past me hooked on this podcast.
This moment, when it happened....gave me legit chills
I've seen so many animatica of this scene, but yours stands out due to its dark color scheme. I also quite like the Barry falling off the ship
this is exactly as i depicted it in my head and i started tearing up omg
Top ten ways to make yourself cry.
Hey did you by chance know that you are an artistically talented demon being?
I think this is my favorite for the expressions alone
Oh god I got so many chills watching this!!!!
I knew literally nothing about TAZ, this was the first moment I ever saw of it and it was so impactful that I just had to listen to all of it. It still hit like a fucking truck when I reached this moment.
I swear to god, this moment made me cry and now I just listened to this and im crying again how could you
I saw this thumbnail in my recommended when i was partway through ..... i think it was The Eleventh Hour? and oh my god it had me on edge for the rest of my listening experience and now i can watch this and oooooooooooooh boooooy :(
This is what got me interested in TAZ, I stumbled on this and then listened and let me tell you I had forgotten about it by the time I had gotten a few archs in. But having this to base what I though taz was when I started listening threw me.
holy shit. HO-LY SHIT. THIS IS AMAZING. Definitely one of my favorite renditions of this scene.
This is THE MOST beautiful animatic I have ever seen! This is gorgeous and outranks all other animatics for other stuff and I just want to say you did an absolutely amazing job.
