Tayshaun Prince shuts down Kobe Bryant - 2004 Finals Game 3

Спорт

Arguably the worst playoff game of Kobe's career as a starter. The Pistons allowed Prince to play Kobe mostly straight up, and his length continued to give him problems throughout the series.

Tayshaun Prince has zero All-Defense First team selections and Kobe Bryant made him look like he was a perennial DPoY candidate. SMH, the offense is so bad that this should go on Shaqtin' a Fool: Black Mamba edition.

Part of his lack of accolades was because of Bowen and Artest. Though there were a few years Hughes and Bell got 1st team over him

Do you think a valid argument could be made that Kobe's shot jacking in this series cost the Lakers? Shaq was hurt also. He had a bruised thigh that wasn't completely healed.

The Pistons forcing Kobe into a poor offensive series was the main reason Lakers lost. The next was Shaq's poor defense Then on top of that, Payton was terrible offensively the whole playoffs. He played good defense on Parker but then Billups lit him up in the Finals. Karl Malone also re-injured his knee in the WCF after missing half the season so he was a non factor in the finals. Last thing - the Lakers had no shooters and no bench

The problem wasn't the shot jacking the problem was the shot missing.

@@42tribes LOL. That is shot jacking. He was a liability on offense by forcing up stupid shots and going 1 vs 5 and should have passed the ball to Shaq more. Instead, Kobe wanted to win Finals MVP so bad instead of going along with the game plan that was the primary reason the Lakers won those three titles. It was Kobe's fault and Kobe, to his credit, admitted it in that sitdown interview he had with Shaq a few years ago.

@@tangiers59 These were still the type of shots that made him a Hall of Famer and its not like the team had great options if he wasn't taking shots. To put it simple an alltime great defensive team took advantage of how much they relied on Kobe, Tayshauan played amazing defense on him and Wallace was very good against Shaq.

@@42tribes Brother, Kobe was an all time great but he hijacked the offense in this series and in doing so shot his team out of the series. If you look at the first three Finals series and see who took the majority of shots it was Shaq. Here Kobe tried to play hero ball 1 on 5 when he didn't have to. He wanted that Finals MVP badly. Tayshaun locked Kobe up in that series because they were a great defensive team and they made Kobe take a lot of bad shots when he could have passed it off to Shaq or let the game come to him . Shaq played ok by his standards but Kobe was abysmal. Now, you can sugarcoat it anyway you like but the bottom line is it was Kobe's fault they lost that series. I'm not saying Kobe sucks. He's an all time great and a hall of famer. I'm just saying that he was awful and no one talks about it. At least, Kobe did admit to costing the Lakers that series in that interview with Shaq 4 or 5 years ago and kudos for him for accepting responsibility for it.

With all respect to Kobe, Prince did a great job at defending Kobe ( not shutting down, but make Kobe take tougher and contested shots ) Kobe fans are pls stop complaining, Prince played him 1 on 1 without heavily relying on help def.

Kobe was the most over rated NBA player ever. Just look at his career shooting percentage, 44%. He ball hogged and jacked up difficult shots instead of passing. Shaq shot 58%. Magic 52%. Kareem 55%. Lebron 50%. Jordan 49%. The only time Kobe passed was when he passed away.
