Nailed it right on the head. Jordan's take might be fake humility, but at least he isn't bragging. Kyrie won that series for Flopron with that shot. If not for that, no Cavs championship, yet he takes credit as GOAT after someone else saved the game for him. He seems to forget that he didn't make the shot. I think MJ was sincere when he did that interview, but since then I think he knows he is the GOAT. And Shaq calling Wilt the most dominant is in that same realm. Shaq KNOWS he was the most dominant, but won't call himself that.

@@pelnarius2446 you bring up great points. It would have been a titanic clash to see Wilt vs Shaq in their primes---Wilt was an off the charts athlete and said to have been the strongest ever to play the game. Shaq was a freak of nature, for a man that size to move like he could. And I agree--I think Jordan was being sincere and recognizes the game has changed enough that comparisons are moot. One thing that is seldom mentioned is LeBron, with his 2" and 60 lb advantage over Jordan also has enjoyed an era where he cannot be touched going to the basket, whereas a smaller Jordan could get hard foul after hard foul without the player being ejected, yet not only missed far fewer games than LeBron by year but still scored more points if you take equal numbers of years (15) as well as played defense better AND won the dunk contest twice. Sorry, no comparison.

@@tombanaski3251 They also don't mention the amount of money Floppy James spends on conditioning. Jordan did what he did while drinking scotch, smoking cigars, gambling all night, then kicking everyone's ass the next day. He also retired three times, came back twice, and still dominated.

Here's something no one talks about, how artistic Jordan was with the ball. His plasticity, the way he moved and flew with the ball has been copied but never matched. The excitement wasn't just on the descriptive dunks and shots made, they were, partly if not mostly on how he dunked and made those shots. It's a numbers game but there is an art to it and Jordan was in a league of his own.

Let's stop this mentality shit LOL What separates MJ and Kobe from Lebron is their SKILL. They are literally the 2 best basketball players to ever walk to Earth. MJ and Kobe have the 2 best mid range games and footwork of all time. Kobe on the other hand had a pure shot from 3 and crazy handles. I don't understand how Kobe can be better than Lebron in every aspect of basketball except passing yet ppl still think LeBron is better. Ngl Kobe got some weird hate from the NBA. Only 1 MVP when he should have had 3 or 4, and then David Stern personally vetoing the cp3 trade when they allowed Miami big 3 the year before. My list is Jordan, Kobe, Wilt, Lebron in that order. I can confidently say MJ and Kobe won't lose a 1v1 to anyone under 7ft. Then you got Lebron out there getting clapped by Michael Beasley in 1v1's.

  • @tien5tri

Kobe wasnt gifted with Lebron's physical feature and natural talents. All Kobe had was the killer instinct and drive to always try and beat you. And from that drive he worked on his game to become the 2nd greatest. Even if Lebron gets a 5th ring he will not win over Kobe. He just doesnt have that killer instinct that MJ and Kobe had. Also he bounced around teams. I think that fact will always linger in people's minds when comparing Kobe and Lebron. A die hard laker til the very end or a ring chaser always having teams built around you the second you sign the dotted line.

  • @GJG_3

    @GJG_3

@@tien5tri Couldn't agree with you more. I just wanted to point out that it's more than Kobe's mentality that separated him from everyone else. He's 10x more skilled than Lebron and even Jordan. Lebron and Jordan are probably the most athletic players ever. Jordan had the skill to go along with it that's why he's the goat. And yea Kobe stuck through 3 years of a g league roster when Shaq left. And he could have ring chased after his achilles injury but stayed. The Iverson clip stands out the most to me...did people really just forget the shit Kobe did? Hands down the 2nd greatest and easily the best scorer ever (along with Wilt).

@@GJG_3 but mentality's a huge part of it. That's what kept Kobe and MJ from doing silly shit like flopping, team hopping, etc. Also, it's that mentality that never allowed them to get outplayed by a role player for a finals series. Lastly, at no point did Kobe or Mj have to be pushed to a "legacy on the line" game before they showed the heart to lead their teams to a championship.

You know... at the end of the day I guess it doesn't really matter. But I think the reason it bothers me so much is because I don't think Lebron has the qualities of a champion. I think Lebron is weak under pressure and a poor leader. He takes credit for success and blames the people around him whenever he fails. Quite simply, Lebron does not possess the values that set a person apart as "The greatest of all time". People don't realize when they put Lebron James up there as "The greatest of all time" they are actually devaluing the very meaning of the word.

But it's a short list. And I don't think Lebron is on that list.

Kobe's efficiency stats, which are stats that really matter, make him average. He was known as a 'scorer' right? His last-second shots clanked 75% of the time. He never one time shot over 50% from the field in a season in his entire career. NOT ONCE... his lifetime FG% is sub 45%, which is average. That means he shot a lot... that is all. In the Laker's first 3 championships, 2 of which were legit, he wasn't even close to being the best guy on the team, with Shaq being the most dominant player in the league in those years. Kobe wasn't even in the same league as Jordan or even LeBron for that matter... BTW, LeBron is working on his 10th season I believe shooting over 50% from the field, and of course, his triple-doubles are light years ahead of Kobe, and a long ways ahead of Jordan also... LeBron is the closest thing to Jordan, except he doesn't have Jordan's heart and drive and quiet leadership skills, which takes him down a lot in the spectrum, but still far ahead of Kobe

All i can say for lebrons case is after that mavs series he never disappeared during the playoffs again. Mj and kobe are really different than lbj though and kobe had some failures but it wasnt lack of trying. I mean kobes first playoff series he air balled three 3s and got eliminated because of it. That could of ruined most teens but he just worked harder. And during game 7 against the celts where he obviously had a horrendous shooting night he never got deterred after three quarters of poor shooting he still put up 10 in the 4th which was more than anyone else on either team and he got 15 rebounds in the game.

It's kind of forgivable when youngsters overlook the older greats. But when people 40-70 yrs old do? Nah. Something's wrong. What's worse is when there was a legit Kobe/MJ debate for like 10-15 yrs, and LBJ was always chasing that, and then out of nowhere LBJ magically surpassed Kobe (and Magic... and Bird, and Wilt, and others)...wtf??? I'm a huge Lakers/Kobe fan, but even I'll admit Kob was always trailing MJ. He did not equal or surpass him. BUT...until KB got badly injured, in his true playing days he was widely considered the closest ACTIVE one behind the GOAT, especially by NBA players. ...Kobe and LeBron would naturally be in most historians' top 10 or so....but it's WEIRD to hear some of these 40-70 year olds in the basketball media rank MJ as #1 and LBJ as #2, or vice versa (even weirder), when they themselves clearly stated LeBron was behind Kobe. ..This is all way before LBJ was passing Karl Malone & Kareem on all time scoring list. ...A lot of room for disagreement on all this. But there was a weird Kobe snub way before he passed away, and I suspect it was the NBA's effort to present a cleaner image. Kobe F'd up off-court. LeBron didn't. Pass the mantle from MJ to Lebron, I'm guessing. Who knows.

Kobe Bryant showed he could do it without Shaq, Michael Jordan left to play basketball and when he came back he went back to Pippin instead of going somewhere else to show he could do it without Pippin, Kobe said that in the last dance to be a nice guy, but Kobe still did it, and Michael Jordan fans take that to heart just because Kobe said that, go watch the video where Michael Jordan told Kobe you can wear the shoes but your not going to be the man and the next game they played Kobe just walked all over Jordan, Kobe was better than Jordan and he proved it, just because Kobe didn't have great teammates to win more championships, but Jordan always had Pippin, face the facts

As an 80’s baby, i grew up watching Jordan and the Chicago Bulls on WGN and ABC/NBC. The NBA had way more physicality back then and players had to have great skills, this is why I give Jordan the number 1 spot. He played against the Pistons, New York Knicks and every other team who were brutal when it comes to physicality. He beat them all. Time and time again. Kobe is second because even in a “new era of basketball”, he had the greatest skill set and mental and physical toughness and was the spitting image of Jordan. And Kobe won 5 championships similar to Jordan’s 6 championships. There will never be another Jordan or Kobe. Lebron is the next best player in this era. Although he doesn’t have the greatest skill, he is powerful and makes good moves. Jordan and Kobe were good at all attributes, while Lebron is good at most or some, and he does have a few championships under his belt. Not to mention, the NBA has gotten softer nowadays and more strict on physicality and has more restrictions in general. There can possibly be another Lebron. All GOATS, but in this order (1) Jordan, (2) Kobe, (3) Lebron.

Michael Jordan is above them and they know it. The phase “the Michael Jordan of” became a thing in society and it signifies excellence in whatever field. Kobe, Lebron and whoever else that came after. Are excellent no doubt in their own right but Jordan was in his own league there’s no denying it. Others going to bed, Jordan still playing ball after all the crowd left. Others can reach the summit but Jordan will forever be the mountain.

I will tell you why this debate is very complex . Kobe and LeBron might just have reach the " Jordan level " . Greatness , clutchness in the most important times , and titles . Kobe proved it by winning 2 more title after shaq left . He did it against a Celtics team with , Kevin Garnett , Paul Pierce , ray Allen and rondo . 1 vs 4 and with a broken finger. This accomplishment is unmatched . LeBron is the most complete player of all time . His best ability is his assist game . But he can dunk , and shoot 3 point . He can do it all . LeBron early miami was the best player of all time . He could jump higher than. Jordan , dunk stronger , was leading in assist and defense . He also won 3 title in 3 different teams . Each time final mvp . So now we have 3 level of greatness . And we are witnessing the 4 the level of greatness stephen curry the best shooter of all time . Kobe had the mind , because he didn't have the body like MJ . MJ had the body , the mind and the skills. LeBron had , the individual skills , the teamates skills , the body , the longevity . And curry is making everyone want to shoot more 3s

In the Early days of the NBA, there wasn't much question who the best basketball player was. It was Wilt, and nobody questioned it. Then guys like Kareem, Dr J, Bird, Magic came along and people started to make arguments about one being better than the other, but no definitive answer to who was the greatest. They were all great in their own right. Stars of the league, and legends of the game. When Jordan came along, it was like something out of a writer's room. Within his first month as a Bull, people began to take notice of this kid who was absolutely dominating everyone. Nobody could stop him. The minute that man laced up his shoes for the first time and hit that court, he was already talked about with the likes of the greats. People questioned, just how good could this kid get? Years went by and Jordan never waivered from that mark as the best basetball player of his time. Pushed past Magic and Bird, and stood at the top of the mt. rushmore of 1980's and 1990's NBA. There was a time before Jordan where it was debated who was the best ever, when Jordan arrived, there was no longer a debate. He broke the game. now, over 20 years after he retired from the game of basketball, people still compare the stars of the league and legends of the game to his name. He will forever be the greatest basketball player to ever walk the Earth. Players will come and they will pass, but whoever joins the game today knows there is only 1 name they will compare yours too, no matter how great you are. And you know what that name is.

@Jermont Trice Kobe was special. But MJ was waaaayyyy more special. Trust me. Being a kid in the 80’s and 90’s watching MJ was a work of art. I mean where do you think Kobe got his moves from. Who do you think Kobe trained with for years. MJ was just on a different level. And the biggest reason for that was his ability to control the ball. It was like Steve Jobs and Apple. Way before their time.

But to say Mike was way more special is a stretch. 81 points in game, 60 in his last game, 4th all time in scoring, if Kobe isnt better he's arms length.

I'm just gonna say if MJ came straight out of high school playing the way he did as a rookie, never retired, and injured he would have the scoring record that probably no one can catch. Remember he only played 13 HEALTHY years and and got scoring titles for 10 of them averaging 30+ pts

MJ turned a losing team into the most dominating team in the NBA. Turned millions of people into fans of basketball. Lebron picked a winning team was not able to make the difference himself. Takes games off. Mike brought it every game no matter what, never did he consider a game not important. Most influential player ever.

No one has ever been built like James. Add his vision, dribbling, and passing ability for that size. 10 Finals. People can say he lost more than won but he brought teams to the finals that should have not been there. I'm not a Kobe or James fan or Jordan while they all played. It will be decades before we see another Lebron. Now, Jordan and Kobe were pretty to watch. Graceful, 6'6 shooting guard. Really they are all equal and one is not better than the other. They are all great but if I had to choose in a draft to build a team, I'm taking Lebron for the size and making players better on his team.
