Tayshaun Prince locks down Kobe Bryant - 2004 Finals Game 4

Спорт

The Pistons once again allowed Prince to mostly play Kobe straight up, and Kobe had a hard time trying to create space or get open looks against Prince's length. Kobe took a lot of questionable shots, but he also resorted to doing so because of Prince preventing him from getting any good looks in the first place.

One of the best defenders to ever step foot on an NBA court.

To me, on the perimeter, there were 2: Prince and Rodman. Ironically, Rodman was also one of the best inside defenders of all time, too. But, imagine somebody with Prince's wingspan that was able to guard the fastest players in the NBA?! I'd like to see him play against prime Jordan(Rodman gave him a tough time; although, Dennis didn't start in Detroit and Dennis wasn't as long as Prince). Prince was centeresque and could contend with Iverson and Kobe's speed to keep them from blowing by him....

+Kobe Not Top 100 Yes but really Kobe just played horrible in that series. He was shooting bricks and he didn't have a positive impact to the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2004 finals.

Just give the ball to Shaq down low instead of forcing those stupid shots. They weren't double teaming him.

Am I the only one that feel the 90's had he best team defense but today if there's a good defender they're a better individual defender than people in the 90's due to not having to hand heck

+Swaggy Jee You just spoke my mind. And with that argument, I believe that this Detroit Pistons have one of the top two team defense of all time (the other one being Mj's Bulls), because both teams have insane team defense but also have some of the greatest individual defenders on both teams. And I do believe that the '04 Detroit Pistons had a better team defense than the 80s Bad Boys

I agree. I think today's defenders are greater only bc they can't hand-check the way they used to and depend on playing defense with their feet. Conversely, while today's players have greater individual 1-on-1 moves, I don't believe that they're vastly superior to players of the 80s and 90s only bc those players had to play against more physicality and less spacing.

the title of this video proves your basketball knowledge, this is not single coverage lol. Prince was the primary on these possessions but the pistons help defenders are clearly switching to a zone when kobe touches the ball. The lakers had no spacing so this was brilliant. One on One kobe would have destroyed Prince and the pistons knew that, hence the outrageous amount of help. Part of the reason Kobe was forcing these shots is to avoid driving into the zone. The pistons played Shaq straight up and focused their defense on Kobe.

Zone? This Pistons was an anti zone team lol. This is not zone, this is all about defenders sagging off their assingments and playing great help defense, not giving much room for Kobe to operate and forcing him to play Prince straight up in the perimeter instead. Still, they weren't sending doubles and Kobe forced way too many shots when he could have played more of a collective game.

🥶 Kobe shot 38% from the field this series and 17% from 3 on 23 attempts. He played against the same Pistons “help defense” Shaq played against. Should’ve fed Shaq the ball more and then let the game come to him.

@@easy-jay Explain why Boban ain't averaging 30+ if layups and dunks required "NO SKILLS". Shaq was bullying DPOY Ben Wallace in the paint with Rasheed helping on the D as well but it was easy? It was Shaq's sheer power and low post skills that made it look easy. Plus 90% of the time in this series Pistons' defense focused on Shaq, the rest 10% was when he wasn't on the court. Chauncey Billups disclosed they were letting Kobe to take shots 1on1 against Prince and did everything they could to deny Shaq with the ball, pretty successful as someone took 113 shots to brick 70 and Shaq had 84 total attempts.
