TaylorMade Stealth Plus vs SIM2 vs SIM | TaylorMade Drivers Comparison

Спорт

The new TaylorMade Stealth Plus driver is the newest low-spin driver offering from TaylorMade. It features a new all-carbon design, including a 60X Carbon Twist Face. But how does it compare to the TaylorMade SIM2 and the TaylorMade SIM?
In this video, 2nd Swing's Drew Mahowald and Thomas Campbell test the TaylorMade Stealth Plus, TaylorMade SIM2, and TaylorMade SIM drivers in a head-to-head test using Trackman technology.

Guys I love the reviews, but it was noticeable that he was 'going after' the drives with the stealth plus way more than the SIM's, which can explain the extra SS and Ball speed

Exactly what i was going to post. It’s like a 1.5mph swingspeed increase on the stealth vs both the others which has nothing to do with the driver itself. Just him swinging harder. The comparison between the sim and sim 2 was as spot on as you can get, but to swing faster at the ball and say the stealth is outperforming the other two…nah. The swingspeed over the sim is nearly 2mph faster which is pretty substantial. The spin rates were nearly identical for all of them.

@@method341 I don’t think that’s fair. There have been plenty of reviews where Thomas and the 2nd swing crew find no difference. Radspeed vs king cobra sz. Many other examples. Sometimes they find a little bit. Sometimes they don’t. They also just showed a video where several clubs beat out the stealth plus. So on that day Taylormade didn’t pay enough to them to rig it?

I was very suspect of the Stealth hype before I got to swing it. I got my chance at a local club fitting day and I came away super impressed. I don’t know if it’s the shape of the clubhead, the weighting or the Mitsubishi Kai’li shaft I was fitted for with the Stealth… But I think Ian @TXG really summarized it best in his review when he said there is just something about the stealth that invites you to really go for it when you swing it. It’s hard to describe unless you have swing club

I picked up about 6-7 mph ball speed with the Stealth. I swing fairly hard though so one big benefit to the Stealth is the fact they have really nice shafts standard at no up charge. For me the Mitsubishi Kai’li shaft really suits me. I haven’t hit the Rogue yet to see what I can do with it when properly fit. Im not x cited to find out.

I tried the stealth and stealth plus. I got faster club speed with the stealth plus and sim2 compared to my sim but the sim2 was just as fast as the stealth plus but had a higher smash factor and ballspeed than the stealth plus. Everyone produces slightly different results but for me the sim2 is still the best driver I’ve hit to date. Also for me the sim2 spins more than the sim more similar to the sim max but has more fade bias which is good because that keeps me at 1900-2100rom whereas the sim could drop to 1600rpm. My takeaway is the stealth can swing faster with great aerodynamics but it didn’t translate to ballspeed or distance. The stealth was the same distance as the sim but the sim2 has an extra gear. I want to see what the cobra ltdx ls will do.

When doing comparisons like this, it's normal for swing speed to go up as you loosen up so it only makes sense that the club you hit last has better numbers, barring any inconsistencies in the swing. TXG, fitter and reviewing channel, mentions the loosening up = more speed a few times in some of equipment reviews.

  • @SasquatchTour

    @SasquatchTour

@@Nichorobo I would go a step farther and say to test the clubs over a 1 month period 4 different times as speed and delivery can change or at least until you can identify patterns or tendencies you produce. That's why I'm not a fan of club fittings where you go into a store and walk out with a new club 45minutes later and that one window is supposed to fit you for the next 1-2 years.

I’ve seen a lot of tests get higher swing speed with the stealth plus. I wonder if it’s a little bit of a lighter head? Most of the other reviews are seeing a little more head speed, but ball speed has been hit or miss on surprising sim2 or peers. Could also be the head shape/aerodynamics. All are 460cc, but the stealth plus certainly looks more compact in footprint. I just tested one for the first time and didn’t hit enough to conclude on speed. I certainly did notice better spin consistency and forgiveness vs my SIM2.

Most people here are unaware that the carbon face has 2 benefits. 1- they were unable to improve ball speed with titanium anymore. And 2 the carbon face is 26 grams lighter than the titanium face. Saving 3-4 grams per year to reposition the weight for a desired performance is huge. They saved 26. So more accuracy in the Stealth and more draw bias with the Stealth HD. It’s not always about distance.

The lesson is not about the driver. It’s about the numbers. Hit up on the ball 5-7 degrees with a square face and the ball will go no matter what the club if it is fit right. It can be fit wrong if you hit up with a square face. You won’t max out but the ball will go. Learn to hit up and square the face. That is worth more than the club.

Do you actually understand what you're looking at? That's a dispersion pattern of 15 - 25 yards. That's incredibly impressive carrying the ball 300 yards. Any PGA Tour player would go into debt to buy the strokes that this would gain off the tee over the course of a season.

@@MahanFan1 pros don't bag stealth to lose the middle and gain 2 or 3yds on a small percentage of shots, that's what you do and your friends do and TM makes billions bc of it.. Meanwhile the actual pro tour isn't adopting TM in record numbers that goes to another OEM. Thanks for the note to ask me do I know what I'm looking at though 😆

@@Somewheredownintexas You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Even the best drivers of the ball have a dispersion of around 65 yards at 300 yards carry - which just happens to be what most fairways measure between penalty hazards. Just take a look at most equipment free agents and see what driver they have in the bag. Probably 90% have a TM of some sort. This is my last reply and I won't engage you any further.

For what it’s worth - of the 22 “equipment free agents” in the Top 125 in the world, 19 are using a TaylorMade driver

I would say the stealth is not better just a gimmick to buy new. Ive hit it and its 5td less than my. G410 lst. So kinda funny seeing this

When your swinging the stealth plus 2mph faster than the sim… what else where you expecting with the farther distances?! At least make it a fair test!!

What happens when the covering over the face wears off? Better make sure you don’t hit range balls with a little sand on them.

May be “surprising” to you “experts” but swinging the club 2mph faster will make it go further. Should honestly do it fair and not go after the higher price driver. Let me guess, next year the stealth 2 will be 2 mph faster than the stealth…

In my average golfer opinion, the stealth driver is not very appealing to the eye ! I was also watching a YT clip of a fella hitting one in a simulator & the carbon face flew off ! 😳 Apparently it’s the second one it’s happened to for him !

I call bs on the results if toy go back when the sim 2 come out he was carying over 300 with it then. Of course you swing almost 2 mph faster you gonna gain 5 yards carry lol

I mean 290-300 is not a big difference when it comes to driver. I’ll spend 300$ on a sim vs double that for a stealth and maybe 10 yards. Not worth it

    Seems like SIM is still best…tried comparing clubhead speed: 113.3 SIM = 165.7 ball speed BUT 297.5 carry/318.5 total 113.3 SIM2 = 167.8 ball speed w/ 295.1 carry/312.7 total Stealth’s lowest clubhead speed was 114.1 and had 168.6 ball speed at w/ 292.4 carry/316.4 total
