Thank you for referencing the effects of torque (twisting of the golf shaft ). I have been a clubmaker for 21 years, and everyone talks about shaft flex, and yet NOBODY talks about torque. several times during this video you guys reference "stability". Torque and stability go hand in hand in my opinion. MOST guys that I have seen play a shaft that is too light for them and spray it all over the course. then they proceed to blame it on shaft flex. the sacrifice of MOST light weight shafts is an increase in torque. So when you said to play the lightest shaft that you can hit consistently. you hit the nail right on the head. as shafts get lighter, torque increases. swing speed affects torque because the club head is off of the center line of the golf shaft. the harder that you swing, the more torque is amplified at the club face. heavier shafts generally have less torque because there is more material to prevent them from twisting. the sacrifice in this is distance. So, to play the lightest shaft that you can keep stable, is in essence, finding a balance between distance and straightness.

I usually tell my clients that “flex” probably the least important quality of a golf shaft. It’s incredibly hard to pick out the different flexes if you’re also switching up bend profiles. A Fujikura air speeder stiff flex is going to feel softer than a Fujikura Ventus Blue 5R2 just based on the profiles they bend at

so what happening with me using a Regular ADILA RIP in my R1 vs a stiff option? I did take a slo mo vid an it looks like the shaft is whipping forward at about 4 oclick in my swing and id think it should be at 5 oclock ideally, am i correct that im losing that whip threw the ball with to reg vs stiff or is it just dispersion? my natural shot is a draw and I do not hit anything to the right but my crap shots are left!

I got fitted this year into the SimMax2 line and realized that I had lost about 20 yards on my drives. And I was fit into a non upgraded shaft. So I decided to do a year round live 'fitting' by buying a number of shafts and heads to see which I liked best. So right now I have 5 SimMax or SimMax2 heads and a number of new shafts, ranging from the stock EvenFlow 50 up to and including the $500 Graphite Design Tour AD IZ 5. I also have a used Aldila Rip 50g, a Mitsu Diamana S Limited 60 g also in R flex, a UST ProForce V2 HL, a KBS Tour TD 50 in R2, a Fujikura Pro 2.0 50g, my originally fitted Evenflow Riptide 50 5.5, a 'made for' Mitsu Kura Kage Silver and a real Mitsu 5th Gen black Kuro Kage shaft. After about 100 rounds with these shafts the Mitsu 5th Gen KK and the KBS Tour AD 50 are head and shoulders above the rest. Less dispersion but more importantly clearly 20+ yards more than any of the others. I will set an appointment to hit the range with a launch monitor to try and break the tie between these two but clearly the premium shafts have value unless you are on a very tight budget.

Half a good video! It clearly demonstrated from the right weight shaft to too light. This is not the direction most golfers have the problem with. It would have been good to see him continue to also hit shafts too heavy so we could all recognise the actual problem we mostly tend towards - wanting too stiff a shaft. Schaun

Have read in a few different places recently that the LH adapter in a RH head fits the same way round if wanting to play in standard loft/lie. Its only when you try to higher or lower loft it works the opposite way round ie higher marking makes the head lower lofted.

When my driver came with LH tip set at 0, I found was totally wrong. 0 and 180 is exactly the same whether RH or LH tip. Other increments would be affected which way you turn the shaft with the opposite tip to how you play.

the dispersion circles extrapolate to a confidence range with a normal distribution. My guess would be a 90% confidence interval. With 5 shots you dont see as much of the data going into the circle being drawn. since there was a lot of draw and slice in the shots the dispersion is wide and you could reasonably expect some more shots to end up further out. If the hit many more, you would see the circle be tighter around the data set.

Why are all these presentations done with tour level equipment and tour level swing speeds? The vast majority of golfers are nowhere near this. A player with a swing speed of a more typical 90-95 mph swing should be included. Just my opinion..

Thanks for watching. We have been incorporating more and more slower swing speeds for club comparisons and testing thanks to this kind of feedback. You will find videos with Jackie whose driver speed is around 90mph - Thomas

It seems getting the correct shaft could take a long section . Whats the cost for a fitting at 2nd golf. Ok what about the type of head to use it seem that this could cost the golf a lot of money. THEN IF YOU ARE A SERIOUS GOLF COST DOESN'T MATTER

The golf shaft will be player dependent. Some golfers may not notice much of a difference with premium & stock offerings and some golfers can notice the weight difference. Generally the type of head or loft on the head will make the biggest difference. At 2nd Swing our Fittings are FREE with purchase. - Thomas

Stock shaft length at 45.75 is way too long for most golfers. Take it down to 45 at the most.

There are many other variables that will have to be considered n a fitting session. Head adjustability today is also a major factor and has to be considered . A lot of information, but not totally on point.

You are correct, plenty of variables go into fine tuning a driver, thanks for watching - Thomas

1st, you should do a shaft preview with a golfer who can hit the driver consistently Thomas is to worried about swing speed and slices, hooks and sprays the ball all over. 2nd, why an 8* clubhead? 80% of all golfer would do much better to 10-12* Thomas being one of those.. I know they think they can smash the 8-9* but they cant, just like this guy. Slow down Thomas you will find your control speed. I'm guessing 108-110 mph. Yeah I've fitted a few as well. Love your vids this one missed the mark

The normal 10-12 handicap guy gets nothing out of this, how many golfers hit the ball 320 yards. This guy hits all of them good. Bring up an average golfer and see how the shafts act for them. I guess maybe these are made for pros.

Can everyone at 2nd Swing just stop saying “golf” in front of everything? Can’t we just say “shaft” instead of “golf shaft” three times in one sentence?

Your show is REALLY POINTLES - a vast majority of people who watch golf vlogs are "blessed" with the golf swing speeds BELOW 100 mph.

Not a fan, all different flex and just a guy hitting balls and complaining about what doesn’t work for him…. Not independent at all. I’ll stick with TXG
