This is literally EXACTLY how I felt listening to this the first time. Like, beat for beat my reactions. And watching you guys lip synch along was just icing on the cake, and then seeing you get caught by surprise with the new lyrics was PRICELESS. I'm gonna watch this video a hundred more times. Also I actually said YES out loud when you mentioned how we need both versions. BOTH! VERSIONS! ARE! SO! NECESSARY! I keep seeing people saying like "the original is DEAD to me, it doesn't feel right anymore" and no!!!!! The 2012 album version is so important- it's tight, it's focused, it's just personal enough to feel, well, personal, but it's not so personal that it loses its universality. The long one is SO personal and it adds depth and even though the oath line could've absolutely stayed in the original (that double verse followed by a double chorus! love it!), it's no longer universal. Some parts of it absolutely are, but on the whole it becomes so pointed that it can absolutely only be about Mr. Gyllenhaal. I also feel like you lose the potency of the scarf with the longer version because it doesn't bookend the narrative anymore! But still, oh my god..... imagine being such a good lyricist that THOSE are the lines you cut. I literally cannot.

100% had the same reaction to the oath line. Like omg Taylor comeback to break me like a promise with that seriously. Honestly no one but Taylor could make her best album better. The vault track all slapped for me and agree on girl at home the new arrangement made me actually not skip it. Plus the album came out when I was 22 I loved it them but it means so much more now after everything I went though in my 20s. I’m just loving the opportunity to fall in love with these songs all over again. I mean basically she killed it.
