In 1980 I saw a demonstration of the first cochlear implant experiments from the University of Utah which had an artificial organs department under the direction of Dr. Pim Kolff (a professor from the Netherlands). They hooked up a profoundly deaf (since birth) man with a cochlear implant to six large main-frame computer cabinets and demonstrated his auditory understanding for a half hour. After it was over they said that the real challenge at that time was to miniaturize the electronics to make it practical for actual patients. All processing back then was using 64K RAM...lots of it...but nevertheless that was the state of the art. So what Taylor received in this video was the dream of those scientists over 40 years ago.

Of course she can hear the voices. But she doesn’t know what the words mean. The doctor explained all that. It’s like dropping an English speaking person in the middle of China. They can hear people speaking but they can’t understand what they are saying. Plus, a lot of deaf people don’t speak because they can’t hear the sounds they are making. She will need to learn how to speak and understand spoken words.
Can she hear or not ?
God she talks too much
whoa way to many people in the room for such a moment
Too many people in that room.

Where is the results of the test? "that was let down.
That’s it.
She is very beautiful.
what's disappointing is these bone heads that have to find a reason to complain with their comments. some will never find true peace.

Not to mention all the pedophiles and degenerates commenting on how cute/hot she is, for God's sake, she's 14. Sick bastards.

*The Clampetts Go to a Doctor's Appointment* Good lord! Is a truckload of mouth-breathing relatives with cameras drawn really a requirement for every CI appointment? On KZread, it appears it is.

You sir are a douchebag! Watch this video again and revisit your Post. this is what you want to make derogatory comments about? you are a first class dipshit. Sorry, shouldn't have been so harsh to you! You're just a millennial=douchebag hater.

Rick Botkins Thank you!
What would you like to be the first sound you ever heard. Her, or beethoven first sym. Because these slimebags have seem to of taken it away.

You don't seem to understand how it works. You don't magically start hearing stuff. Your brain literally doesn't know how to process any sound properly at first. It needs a period of adjustment. So actually, beethoven would probably sound like nightmare fuel if it was played right off the bat.

Temenos Lykourgos I think you are totally right!! The wrong frequencies will make the best sounds horrible & vise versa!!! Sadly people who could already hear the lady talking don’t know how to listen!!
She seems pretty apathetic about the whole thing.

That's what I was thinking at first. However I assume she is simply overwhelmed by the new sensory input and the abundance of people and cameras pointing at her. I suspect she would seem less nonchalant if the room had fewer people and less cameras.

Not everyone is a bubbly extrovert, period. She does not look apathetic but focused. She's sitting there staring awkwardly at an interpreter the whole time while a crowd is laser focused on her which may also play a part.
German American girl couldn't care less.
Mom needs to get it the fuck together here
Great but Imperfect Video. WHERE are the Remaining Parts ?
update ?
