Cheers Dan, yeah catching the first trout on a fly rod is an unforgettable experience. I think because of all the work and practice that goes into it. And then finally getting one is so satisfying :)

Hey guys just a reminder that it’s a breach of Civil Aviation Regulations to fly your drone within 4 kilometres of a gazetted airfield. The Tokaanu tail race where you were flying is only 3.5 kilometres from Turangi Airfield

Cheers for the info. The DJI mini wont let you fly in restricted zones. It would have been just outside of the zone.

I remember visiting Lake Taupo. Had a great time. 👍 Regret I never fished in New Zealand when I was there, but seeing all those fees and regulations it might have been for the best since I was on a busy schedule back then. 😅. Great catches though!

Cheers Chris. There's always a next time :) It's only the Taupo region that requires a special license. The rest of the country can be fished on one single license and it's a bit easier and cheaper. Hope you get a chance to visit NZ again sometime for a bit of fishing :)

😂😂😂😂😂 love how pissed you were about the licenses I find it nuts it's a separate fresh water license to the REST OF NZ 😴😴😴 awesome vid team I really need to catch a fish this winter. I need to come fishing in Taupo with you guys some time!!

haha, yeah the licensing is a pain. Especially if you buy a 24h license at 2pm thinking that you can fish until the next day 2pm but then find out that the license is only valid until 5pm on the same day and you essentially just paid $16 for 3 hours fishing. Yeah mate that would be fun to catch a few trout together. Maybe Rotorua :) We've been getting some massive rainbows recently. Will be coming up soon.

Hi Peter, I just launch and land the drone from the boat. I just hold it in my hand to launch and when landing I grab it and turn it upside down quickly. It will turn itself off immediately.

Great fishing video again. That 1st Rainbow you got on the fly was a beauty. How was the new boat? I'm thinking of getting an inflatable myself. I hope Haysin ( sorry if I spelt it wrong) didn't get covid!

Hi Stu, cheers mate. That's probably the longest video we have ever made at almost 30min :) Very happy with the boat so far. It's tons of fun. The 6HP outboard is just enough for the two of us to get us planing if the water is calm. A 9HP would have probably been better. If I'm on my own it's plenty of power. The boat itself is pretty good for the price I'd say. It's 3 times cheaper than a Takacat - good value for money :) Luckily Hyeshin didn't get Covid.

I fished Rotorua when we stayed in New Zealand this last year. These videos and literature provided by a local tackle shop in Rotorua make this look like this lake is an Epic Mecca dream fishing destination. I ran down to the main tackle shop in town on the southern end of the lake and to be honest the staff seemed not all that helpful. By the time I rented a pole and bought some flies and levers and a license it was like $240. Utterly ridiculous pricing for 4-5 Lewwrs and maybe 8-10 flies and some $4.00 fishing pliars. They told me where to go inlet west side. I raced down in the evening just dreaming of fish on and found I had to wade out like 100 yards and it was still only two feet deep. So shallow I didn't see but one fish cruising in two days. There were literally hoards of fly fisherman kicking up elbow to elbow the inlet and only one guy catching anything becouse he was matching the hatch well. They rainbows where good size no doubt some food fish in there but frankly wayyy wayy overhyped with literally shallows everywhere and not one bite in two evenings casting multiple spinners and lies. These fish our picky and just used to millions of lewers being thrown at them. I'm a decent fisherman usually do well on trout waters in the U.S on various setups and take care of my equipment. The pile I rented literally broke in my hands tying a fly my fly 🤷‍♀️ I took it back to the shop and explained I wasn't even casting when it broke haven't had that happen in 40 years even on Walmart rods. I believe it was Hamills fishing ship They charged me the security deposit in the pole. I'm sure New Zealand has some great fishing and a boat would have been the answer but for what they charge there to have no bites is ridiculous and to expensive
