Best fishing spots in

Check out some of Wellingtons best land-based inner city fishing spots.
We went to 7 cool fishing spots on our last trip to Wellington. All are easily accessible from the city and are good and easy spots to catch yourself a feed. There are tons more fishing spots to explore around Wellington but this video should give you a good starting point.
Despite being a very windy city, Wellington has lots to offer in terms of fishing. In summer you can even catch good snapper and kingfish here. On top of that you get many species you'd also expect on the South Island, such as Blue Moki, Elephant fish, blue cod and rig
1. Point Howard Wharf - unfortunately closed at the moment but can still fish around the rocks
2. Petone Wharf - an awesome super long fishing wharf with rod holders and everything you need
3. Clyde Quay Wharf - inner city fishing wharf, can get pretty busy at times. Handy location
4. Oriental Parade - Easy access fishing spot right in the city with lots of space and big fish
5. Flat Rocks - Good rock fishing spot on the Miramar peninsula
6. Point Halswell - God rock fishing spot at the end of the Miramar Peninsula with deep water and lots of current
7. Tarakena Bay and South Coast - loads of nice fishing rocks and beaches on the South coast of Wellingtion

Wow live in miramar and never knew of those spots
Thanks mate. Visitor from Ireland here and threw a telescopic rod in the bag before i got on the plane. Turns out freshwater license is $37 a day so will try sea instead at Wellington tomorrow instead. Info great

thanks for the video! used to live in welling ton in the 80s. brought back memories. was a bit of a wharf rat. main haunts were overseas terminal(clyde quay), interisland wharf(is this still accessible?) and miramar wharf. Snapper were pretty rare in those days, looks like they have come back to healthy levels. there was also a rusty old floating dock at the picton ferry terminal which was a cool location to fish - anyone recall that?

cheers Peter. Yeah the snapper fishing is really good now, eh - and also very good for kingfish. I'm surprised that snapper were rare back in the 80's - could it be the warmer sea temperatures or do you think it was just overfishing back then.
Nice vid ! Left Wellington 2 years ago to go back to France, I'm missing fishing there. Tarakena bay is great , fishing with ledger rig for tarahiki there is tons of them but I prefer fishing under a float with burley to bring big kahawai , worth trying livebaiting as well , lots of barracuda there but also kingies in late season (April/may/June).

Cheers, yeah lots of great fishing opportunities in Wellywood, eh. How's the fishing in France? I'd be keen to check it out once we can travel again.
Good stuff mate... Geez what a windy place!!

Until I made the video I didn't really realise that Wellington is the second windiest city in the world. According to wikipedia it's actually the windiest city by average windspeed. I just suspected maybe it's the windiest in the pacific. Anyhow it's an awesome place and so much fishing territory to explore.

@@Fishingreminder when I googled, it said Wellington was 1 of 5 most windiest city’s in the world. I think it came out as #1 😅

@@OCEANOUTKAST I think you're right. Early I was reading somewhere that it is in second place. I think it was after Chicago. Can't find this article anymore. LOL Everywhere I look now it ranks as #1 So it really must be the windiest city on earth. How cool is that?
