Peace and love. Just wanted to say that a raised tattoo doesn't necessarily mean the tattoo was done poorly. Most of my tattoos aren't raised, and some of them are. It more common the more melanin you have in your skin (speaking from experience as a tattoed Black woman and tattoo enthusiast). The more melanin, the more easily your skin develops scar tissue after trauma (tattoos are traumatic to skin in the literal since). Basically, if someone is asking in good faith if a tattoo--even a well done one--can change the texture of your skin, the answer is yes, it might, but it probably won't. Again, peace and love.

I have eczema and sometimes my tattoos on my arms will become raised and slightly itchy when I have a flare up. My tattoos normally are healed very well and feel smooth most of the time, but occasionally my ink turns into braille 😅

I have script down my spine and we purposefully made some letters raised more than others and it makes it really unique and interesting :) I think the artist actually used different needles and different pressure to create the different effects, but it is more than 10 years old now and never caused me any issues. I am sure there are situations where skin flares and the tattoo becomes raised when it is not meant to, but that is going to be very rare and more of an individual case caused by other factors and not necessarily because it was done poorly.

Most of my tattoos are slightly raised - I think the tattoo artists and my aftercare were decent, but yeah - I think my skin just reacts differently. When I was younger I used to form keloid scars, which I do not do anymore, but maybe it still has something to do with it.

I told him I'm gonna look ugly and wrinkly anyway, so I might as well get my full sleeve when I can. I think he's speaking from experience for having one (1) very small tattoo that healed terribly because of course he didn't take proper care of it, so now after over a decade it looks like a smudge lmao. Older people will really just say anything sometimes.

I have a big leg tattoo, it took 13 hours and I absolutely love it. Unfortunately I kept it covered for many years because about 6 months after I got it done I was in the grocery store minding my business (wearing shorts) and a creepy man probably in his mid 50's (I was 18) squatted down and started caressing my leg. He was also racist imo because he said it only looked good because I had "beautiful white skin". The was he said it was awful 😔 I don't know what would possess someone to do or say those things to a complete stranger. I abandoned my shopping and left immediately. I'm 41 now and have only started wearing shorts again in the last few years. Of course, I'm much better at sticking up for myself. Even got the other leg done lol. The one I got at 18 y/o still looks incredible, probably because it didn't see sun for 20 years 😂

so the theory behind pfd is that it stops the white spots from appearing, which means you can do more laser pulses on the same area because usually you can't penetrate the white part with the laser. which would also be why the area is more irritated than usual - they've basically got double the lasering in one session! it's only been around for a few years but looks like no major safety issues so far

The thing I never see people talk about with the bite mark tattoos is that, whilst you can disinfect the area before tattooing, to bite the skin hard enough to leave a mark you are traumaing the area. People underestimate how knarly human bites can be. I had someone bite me once and the day of it just looked like a few little red marks, like they look in these videos, after a week it was black and blue. The worst bruise I've ever had. As a tattoo artists, if someone had a bad bruise, cut, or sun burn I wouldn't want to tattoo that area and would tell them to wait for it to heal first, I see this as the same thing. It's a cute idea but if you can get a picture of a bite mark for your artist to replicate that is a lot safer and will most likely heal better.

I'm Brazilian and the sedation video is from Brazil, so I would like to explain it a bit. Basically, in Brazil is illegal to the artist put numbing cream in a costumer, I think even if they just agree they could have problems. Basically, only doctors/nurses can safely sedate/apply numbing products. So they got a medics team to sedate him in a safe and legal way (that's what I understood).

A lot of people in my family have metal allergies and/or got really bad infections from having earrings put in as babies (and it just felt weird to her to put metal in the ears of a literal newborn without them knowing what it was), so my mom waited until I asked for them myself and let me get them when I finished my first year of primary school as a kind of "yay you made it" present and because I was older and could take better care of them (knew not to tug on them, cleaned them myself, and was actually old enough to understand it was gonna hurt and that I was making somewhat permanent holes in my flesh and it was my choice to do so), but since she didn't want me to have too bad a time with them, she took me to my gp and they gave us Emla, which is also used for some topical medical procedures. You can totally get it over the counter, my mom just wanted to make sure it was safe, and with the doctor's note we got it at a discount lol

The PFD patch consists of a dual-layer medical-grade transparent silicone film. The bottom layer is tacky so it can be easily applied to the skin, and perforated so the optical clearing agent, PFD, can wick into it (Biesman 2017). It does evaporate rapidly, so you'd have to apply it multiple times. It is used to reduce epidermal whitening (this is what produced during the laser treatment). This makes it possible to do multiple passes of the lasers during removal because the PDF patch is supposed be a barrier. Basically it protects the skin from thermal injury so you can use the laser more, thus reducing the number of laser removal treatments needed. It may or may not alleviate the pain a little, but no definitive proof. It also might reduce the odds of dyspigmentation in the skin (I am a medical librarian, this response is a combination of resources! I still recommend doing your own research!)

He didn't make any comment, but afterwards he pulled my mum aside and asked her if we had money problems because I had to wear old, ripped jeans. He was so concerned and just wanted her to know he's here to financially support her. It was the cutest thing!

Hi! The "strange stencil " is not a wooden plaque but a lionleum engraving on wich you put stencil ink. Lots of tattoo artists are doing it here in France, especially if they have an illustration / engraving background or style. Hope this helps 🐛✨

Around my dads family I just wear long sleeves/long dresses, skirts etc simply to avoid any comments because I know they're not super keen on tattoos in general.. They know I've got them, but the discussion always turns to "I wanted a tattoo once and never got it and now I'm glad I didn't", "what if you don't like it in X amount of years" etc. When my cousin started his sleeve though he was definitely excited to show me though cause he knew I'd be the only one who would actually appreciate it 😄 Also Toms band 10/10, they'll be going on the spotify playlist!

I'm pretty lucky in the fact that I grew up with both of my parents tattooed so I never had the fear of being judged in that way, and remembered being shocked of parents or family members who act like that to my friends. The majority of my family members have at least 1 tat so it would be a pretty funny situation if someone said something like that :')

I've always said that there's big letter words and little letter words. it's the intensity of the word that matters in those cases. In this case, Big letter Regret means you really mean it, little letter regret means you've thought about it some and might have done different. But we don't have twenty differents for snow, so we have use the same word both ways. Makes language and speaking so fun.

Someone once stopped me in the street asking if hair could grow on a tattoo. They seemed genuinely curious about it so I showed them the one on my calf which obviously had hair all over it. I just mentioned the need to shave while getting it but that it grows back the same as anything else. I have a very faintly raised tattoo of lettering on my hip but I actually enjoy that

As someone who's had several facial piercings since middle school, the most compelling reason for me to not get a hand/face tattoo as a first tattoo is the "You want experience with how tattoos heal and age first" point. I think that's something a lot of people won't think about, especially if they already have other body mods and are used to the stares and questions and career limitations that come with it. Definitely good advice there.

I love my grandma so very much, but from all of my close relatives she's the one who hates my tattoos and is vocal about it. A couple of months ago I was having lunch with her and she said "I feel disappointed that you did this" and I just said "Well, it's a good thing that I'm not here on this Earth to comply with what anyone thinks but me" and she just dropped it. I mean, I really couldn't care less about anyone's opinions, and deep down she knows it, so she says this here and there but I just... genuinely don't care - and in the end, she loves me no matter what. PS: greetings from Brazil :)

Re people treating you differently being visibly tattooed: I am not even heavily tattooed, and I am constantly made to feel uncomfortable by non-tattooed people, mostly strangers, which always boggles my mind. PSA to anyone considering visible tattoos who doesn't already have them, the reality is, if you get ANY visible tattoos (even just one or two), you WILL encounter the following interactions and more: "What is that?" "What does that say?" "Why did you get it?" "Did it hurt?" "Can I touch it?" "You know that's permanent, right?" "Hope you don't regret that!" Plus you'll get more specific interactions based on your actual tattoos too. I have had such gold as: "Is that a tattoo or did someone write their shopping list on you?" (...why?) "Does that say miso soup?" (I wish it did, just to have been able to say yes) "Well, that's a depressing design." (to avoid the most awkward moment, I usually don't tell the speaker that it's a tribute to my friend who passed away a few years ago) But you know what, it gives me a laugh doesn't it

  • @claressadubs

Honestly, just replying "yes well it's a tribute to my friend who passed away" would probably immediately end the interaction at least. And hopefully make the other person think twice before making that type of comment in the future. 🙃 I accidentally did this to a teacher who was asking me about a necklace I wore to class, it had been my sister's and I kept it to wear after she died. I told the teacher that and she was immediately silent and never asked me about anything I was wearing again. Woops. 😅

The anesthesia tattoos will always scare me. Anesthesia is balancing you on the brink of death essentially, so your body can handle extreme things like surgery! It takes a huge toll on your body! Combining that with what your body goes through during the tattooing process? Noooo thank you.
