The thing that really frustrates me about the lady who regrets her tattoos is how condescending she is when she she says she used to like spooky stuff but now she has real problems… like the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Like spooky stuff doesn’t mean you’re a child and it certainly doesn’t mean you don’t have real “grown up” problems. Like I have no problem with her sharing her story and talking about the fact that she has regrets. That’s totally fine. But I feel like she came off so rude and condescending and that really bothers me.

Hi, that’s me 😊 It was a personal narrative about my own life and my own experiences- I was emphatically not a real adult when I was very “spooky and moody” and it was a dig at myself, not at anyone else. Sorry if it came off that way! ❤

I also agree, I'm heavily tattooed. Comparable to them. I have mostly spooky black work. Mixed with my urban and kawaii aesthetic. I'm in my 30s.no regrets. Give me more spoookkkkkkyyyyyyyyyy. I also wear veryyyyyy girly clothes. Just like snitchery, fairy core, Barbie core, other girly aesthetics dep on mood.. I feel far more feminine with my tattoos and clothing. I do get that it's exhausted sometimes dealing with ppl, whether they look or comment, positive or negative. But this, at the end of the day, is all purely subjective. I just could never see myself lasering off a tattoo.. I would do a cover up if it was offensive or I really couldn't stand it. I feel like these videos, albeit with good intentions, really urk and just annoy me. Laser is skin damage, literally, and not something I would do to my skin. I'd rather scar it with ink lmao 🤣

@@saraovershares most of the time when I hear "you'll regret them when you get older", they're talking about getting wrinkly skin when we get older. I feel like the whole “my tattoos don’t match my aesthetic” regret is directly social media related and that makes me so sad that people don’t see how beautiful contrast can be in a person. When she says aesthetic I do believe she is talking about the term in a general sense of style and what she likes to see, which does change with age and situations. I don’t particularly like how a person cannot use their own experience to provide perspective to people getting tattoos young without being a poser or doing it for likes, even when that would make no sense logically. What annoys me about the person saying they regret their tattoos is that they say it doesn't match the aesthetic - this also happened a bit in the snitchery video. I do get that if you have some scary/horror tats you might have a hard time combining that with ruffles and lace, but in and of itself it's not like you can't be femme and be tattooed. My whole right arm is covered and yet I wear exclusively pastel shades. My aesthetic is very girly and femme and it works just fine...

Not everyone’s definition of femme is the same so not everyone is gonna feel their most feminine with certain tattoos. I think it’s also important to say that sometimes people get certain tattoos to fit in to an aesthetic. And that to me is where the problem lies, if you get a tattoo on a whim or without proper thought put into it, then you have a higher chance of regretting it. For me I have started feeling weird about some of my tattoos not because of my tattoos themselves but because of the person I was when I got them doesn’t align with me now. Then I remember I got them because they make me happy and I feel good about them again. I think it is equally parts mindset and getting them because you really want them not simply because they fit with current fashion trends.

I got my first tattoo earlier this year a few months before I turned 20, and people said a) I'd regret a rib tattoo, especially for my first piece b) I'd regret getting a non-famous quote c) regret getting the quote in my high school band directors writing (and treble clef in my current sax profs writing). But after getting the piece, which is healing beautifully, and seeing the reaction from both my old band director and my current professor, as well as grinning uncontrollably when I see it in the mirror almost 5 months later, I know I will never regret it. My philosophy isn't 'only get something you'll like forever', your interests change, so if you love something now, get it! Even if you fall out of love with it, you can look at it and think 'hey, look how I've grown and changed as a person, this tattoo that is kind of meh now is something I used to adore, it's part of who I am' and I think it's beautiful.

My mum doesn't like blackwork so I got all my tattoos in full colour most of them were pinterest tattoos because I was young and stupid. Now I'm older and I've had alot of therapy i get tattoos for me that I love, regardless of whether my family like them or not, but I still very much regret those early ones. I plan on getting laser on my leg to lighten things up and then get a blast over. And I'm genuinely so excited to look and my blast over and know how much I've grown as a person and in my love for tattoos.

Honestly find it a bit upsetting how quickly people in the comments here are jumping to conclusions on the tattoo-regret tiktok...the creator in question was only detailing her own experiences, and never said that everyone else had to feel the same way about their tattoos. She has also made a bunch of other videos, detailing her pretty personal reasons for regretting her tattoos, none of which have to do with just "not thinking long enough about it". I mean, even in that tiktok alone she already mentioned how those tattoos are reflective of a time where she was mentally not doing well - and personally, i can totally get that! I've been through years of therapy, and i am not the same person anymore; a lot of what I thought used to define me as a person turned out to be trauma symptoms. My choice in tattoos back then, no matter how long i would've thought about it, and no matter how good of an artist i chose, would have for sure also been influenced a whole lot by trauma. And I can understand having regrets in such a situation. I get the concern that (more conservative) people are gonna take a video like this as proof for the "you're gonna regret it when you're older" narrative, like for sure that is gonna happen, and it sucks because i think especially as women we face more criticism on being tattooed and have to defend ourselves more often on why we made those choices for our bodies. But that can't mean that we shouldn't hold space and compassion for stories like that; in my opinion at least.

I've never had an artist say "no, I don't DO that," but I have had a lot of artists adjust designs once they know the colour combo. At the end of the day you always want to make sure the artist has the best chance of doing their best work; they're at peak and you're going to be happier with the work. Their lives might be a lot less conflicted and complicated, maybe happier. But, until you realize that how you are now might not be the same in the future, you might make permanent decisions that you wish you took more time to think about.

Oh! The spider you have in your room is a cellar spider (Pholcidae sp.). I had one living above my bookcase for 5 years. Her name was Sally and she basically never left her web. With how long and thin their legs are they prefer to just walk on their webs. The long legs also makes them great at catching and killing other spiders! So if you don't really like spiders they can be a great deterrent from other species that move around a lot.

I’d like to point out that I never said that everyone will regret their tattoos 🙂 I am a veteran of the internet and actually was very measured in my decision to use the words “may” and “might”, so it’s sad to hear that so many people have taken that as me saying that they *will* regret theirs.

I have 9 tattoos so far and only have 1 that I had regret about (but only after I first got it, not so much anymore.) It's the andromeda constellation with flowers in place of most of the stars, with a dotted crescent moon on top. On my ribs. Now first, I gave the artist a sketch of what I wanted. She asked if I wanted her to draw the flowers "better". Now I'm an artist myself but since it was a concept I just sketched over some osmanthus, and since she's a tattoo artist, I told her yes. Later, I realized she redrew one flower and then just copied it for all the others. Also, after the tattoo was done, I realized she made the crescent moon have dashed lines instead of dotted, like I had specified. The linework on the moon was also a little wonky. I was really upset for a while cause I had been really looking forward to it. After about 6 months it healed enough to where it looked a lot better and from a distance you can't really see the issues, but if I think about it for too long it does upset me a little still.

Where I live, years ago, there were literally zero legit tattoo studios. There was only one guy who was doing tattoos in a sketchy place... he wasn't that good but he thought me the basics and then I started by myself... now I own a legit studio! In my case, if I didn't start tattooing "at home" I wouldn't have never started :)

That's like saying "Where I lived there were no real doctors, the only person providing medical care was a sketchy dude who killed people sometimes but he taught me the basics and I started pretending to be a doctor too. But eventually I went to med school! I became a legit doctor because I did it the wrong way first."

A lot of artists get in by tattooing at home, tattooing under the legal age, etc. I think it’s part of the process for certain personality types. Like most tattooers just have this don’t gaf mentality and are kinda reckless. But at the same time have this thirst for knowledge about an industry that tries to be as secretive and occult as possible.

My tattoos don’t match my fashion style most days, but I actually don’t mind it lol. It’s a nice reminder of my growth and change. I don’t regret them. Some will, some won’t. It’s the same with many other things like cosmetic surgeries too.

18:23 that shocked, shook-ness look on your face and then the “how dare you”… = priceless ❤ I guess I can understand the whole “unmatching aesthetics” from when you’re younger VS when you’re older but like you’ve said before, regret such is a STRONG word. And if she truly regrets her tattoos, that just sucks and I hope shes able to find a way to love them again. I see heavily tattooed people as a walking work of art, and I’m always curious about the stories behind the tattoos (if there is a story). And hopefully that’s not offensive… and if it is, someone please let me know.

Honestly, I think the reason the "tattoo regret" video rubbed me a certain way was because I heard people tell me the thing she said at the very end of the video before, but this time in regards of career and being paid less and also because It would invalidate my femininity (similar to how she made it sound), meanwhile, I'm around tatted people who are working the career I want with a lot tattoos and are being paid more than the average person in my country and some are still very much so feminine.

Um not going to say people don't regret tattoos when they get older (I regret my first tattoo but I regretted it right away). That said, I'm 32 and getting tattoos I would have LOVED to have at 14 and, clearly, LOVE today and that's why I'm getting them. The only thing I would regret is that when younger I didn't know how to find a good tattoo artist (back in the MySpace area of the internet)

the only tattoo I regret was my first one because I was 18 and did NO research into tattoo styles or artists. unfortunately it's pretty big too. idk if I would've regretted any tattoo I would have gotten at 18 or if it had nothing to do with my age (I waited until 23 to get my next one). my advice to my future kids will definitely be to do a ton of research first if they want to get tattooed, not necessarily to just wait until their older

So my advice would be get the tattoo enjoy your life and if you grow to not like the tat, replace it, cover it .. 🙃

Aww. I empathize with the young blonde lady that got the butterfly tattoo. First of all it was well executed. It looks great. There’s a solid foundation she can tweak if she wants to. I understand perfectionism. I’m guilty of that. I wouldn’t of filled in the symbol either, and adding turquoise sounds great. At least the pale blue will fade a bit. And touch ups are always possible. ❤

First of all, did she says she's 36? I'm 30 and she looks 10 years younger than me 😅 Secondly, I understand where she is coming from. Some people don't fully think through their tattoos and they end up regretting them when their aesthetician changes. I get it. I'm not heavily tattooed but I have thought through every single tattoo. The only ones I have thought through were super tiny finger tattoos.

This obsession with curated "aesthetics" and being all "matchy" with a vibe is literally the worst side effect of social media and causes so many mental health issues. Tattoos are a form of visual self expression, much like music is auditory self expression, and it's such a disgusting attitude that we dont allow ourselves, or each other, to express anything if it doesn't feel "aesthetic" enough~~~

I put my first couple of tattoos on my back "just in case" I wound up hating tattoos later on. I keep seeing this my tattoos don't match my aesthetic regret and its getting out of hand. It's so directly related to being chronically online and all this fast fashion and changing trends. Tattoos aren't a set aesthetic, you can have tattoos and be feminine, when she said that she doesn't feel feminine I got so angry because my style is very feminine but I'm covered in tattoos. It's this whole narrative again that tattoos arent womenly. 😮‍💨 I mean come on I thought we had gotten past this! Edit: I read up that the lady who regrets her tattoos did her tattoos as self harm which is very sad to hear. Such a shame she felt that way.

As some ppl here said, the woman who deeply regrets her tatts did them for self-harm reasons. And yes I think it's the baddest reason to get any. Trends come and go tbh. That's why u shouldn't get any for others. Also I think it's kinda hard, to hear that "tattoos don't match my aesthetics anymore", which shouldn't be a thing tbh. (not that u don't like certain styles anymore, that can happen) but normally u get them for yourself. Even if I would get different tats now, I don't mind my first decisions because they kinda reflect my journey as a person.

I regret my tattoos and I'm in the process of getting most of them removed, not because they don't match my aesthetic anymore or anything like that, I just got them the instant I turned 18 and kinda got high on the freedom haha and didn't think about them at all. I was very spontaneous, and genuinely didn't think I'd regret them ever. Back then I also really hated my body and thought I'd like my body more with them. I did for a brief moment, but they weren't a fix-all for mental health problems. now, after therapy etc, I've accepted my body, so the tattoos feel like they're just kind of on the way. I just wish I would've waited even a couple of months, or until I was at least 21, would've saved me from some regret lol. I still really love tattoos as an art form, and don't tell anybody what to do. this is just my individual experience. the worst thing is that my mom was right lol, I don't want to admit it 😭😂
