Task 1 - Prize Task - Your Most Unusual Item
► Taskmaster is a British comedy panel game show created by comedian and musician Alex Horne and presented by both Horne and Greg Davies. In the programme a group of five celebrities - mainly comedians - attempt to complete a series of challenges, with Horne acting as umpire in each challenge and Davies, the eponymous "Taskmaster", judging the work and awarding points based on contestants' performances.
► Series 1 was the first series of Taskmaster and first aired on Dave from 28 July to 1 September 2015. The series featured Frank Skinner, Josh Widdicombe, Roisin Conaty, Romesh Ranganathan and Tim Key as contestants.

@@renejean2523 Thank you for replying. I'm delighted you enjoyed it. That 5 person "Carrot in a Box" was comedy gold. Both adapting the game, and the way the assistant ran it, was brilliant. 😂 IIRC franchised Taskmaster mostly have very similar sets for the in-studio part. Sticking to the original is safest. Reasonably, the "Taskmaster House" varies. Over lockdown I "binged" Taskmaster on Channel 4. Then "binged" Taskmaster, from any country, on KZread. All except the USA were pretty funny. I "get" what you mean. I think of "Scandi noir" or "Nordic noir" when I think of TV shows; bleak crime series. Luckily, I've been to international conferences (mostly Northern Europeans) in Sweden several times. I'm British. Everyone happily spoke English, even when we were _very_ drunk. They were very funny folks. 😂

@@gbulmer - Hi. Yes, I wasn't expecting the 5-person version of 'Carrot in a Box' to really work, but it really did. And I imagine franchises like to have their product the same everywhere, like 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' or McDonalds! Interestingly (for me, at least), the UK Taskmaster house is situated in my old stomping ground where I grew up in SW London. I've just binge-watched the first four seasons, and I love the show. That's an interesting take you have on the various countries' efforts though. I live in the US now and I'm curious if you could put your finger on why you felt the US version was the weakest? I was just kidding about the Norwegians. I love Scandinavians and greatly admire their countries. And they are notoriously among the happiest people on Earth. Having lived in Spain, I know their level of English, along with the Dutch and Germans, is extremely good. I'd go and live in Scandinavia at the drop of a hat if the weather wasn't so bad. But if they could somehow relocate to around the latitude of the Canaries, I'm there! Regards,

@@renejean2523 Hi Rene! Thank you for replying. Thinking about it, I guess the company buying the franchise wants to get "everything" because it might not be clear what's important. And the franchise seller wants to build a recognisable brand so it looks like their format has "the magic formula". I'm sure it's more complex and subtle in reality. Can you remember the street names near the Taskmaster house, or even a post code. It's silly, but I'd like to see it on google maps. ---- When you say _"I've just binge-watched the first four season ..."_ do you mean 4 seasons of Taskmaster UK , or 4 seasons of Taskmaster Norway? If it's 4 seasons of Taskmaster Norway you're ahead of me ! 😀 My answer to -"why you felt the US version was the weakest?"_ has got a bit too long!! 😲 So I'll post a separate comment. ---- Which state do you live in, in the USA? I think I've visited about 19 states. I thought it was fewer until this email!. My simple rule is I must have slept at least one night there, and not in an airport or airport hotel. My list of US states is, roughly, in order of time I spent there: MA, TX, CA, NC, NY, LA, WA, NH, OR (years down to about a week) MI, CO, NV, IL GA, RI, DC, DE, NJ, CT (about a week to one night) I'm guessing from your comment on weather that you don't live in a northern state. I assume Sweden is very competent at handling winter weather, so it might not be too bad. I don't have enough experience of Norway to be as confident, but it was fine from the little I did see. ----- I like The Netherlands a lot. Amsterdam is a hoot. Bizarrely I got hooked on some of the local food. I can't even remember what the style is called now, but it was very hearty. Very much related to home cooking in the North of England, where I'm from. Generally it had a small 'volcano' of mashed potato containing a miniature lake of very rick gravy and meat, with veg like cabbage in the mash, and typically root vegetables around the volcano'. Also, the Chinese food was very good, but very different from UK Chinese. I remember ordering a Chicken dish, and I got a couple of pieces of chicken. The body has been chopped into 'rings' with a clever from back to breast. It tasted great, but looked very weird. It looked like it was a warning to pay the bill or suffer serious consequences. 😀 I was lucky enough to do a bit of work In The Netherlands, and got to Eindhoven. I rarely stayed overnight though, it's such a short flight. The plane was almost scary. It was so small, with about 12 or 14 passengers. I remember one landing where we were almost sideways to the landing strip. I assume from wind sheer, and not just a bet between pilot and co-pilot😆. The 'plane was so small it only had a curtain between cockpit and cabin (it was the '90s). While on the ground the curtain was often open. I distinctly remember watching them doing their pre-flight checks. One was leafing through a big ring binder reading the manual as they went. I remember wondering was that normal? Had he flown that type of 'plane before? The flight was so brief, the 'hostess' barely had time to serve everyone a drink! The spirits weren't the pre-measured miniatures. The 'hostess' just glugged whatever spirit you ordered into a glass. They seemed like triples, or more, unless you knew to ask her to go easy. 🥴 ---- I've never been to Spain! My Dad loved it, but he was a "Sun worshipper". He took every chance to soak in the sun. He became so obsessed he went on a weeks holiday with his drinking buddies, abandoning my Mum, who was not interested in baking in the Sun. ---- Best Wishes. ☮ PS - i edited it a bit, I remembered flying to Eindhoven.

@@gbulmer - lol Thanks for your response. No, I haven't started bingeing Norwegian telly just yet, as I'm already very late to the party as far as watching the British Taskmaster is concerned. I'd heard good things but never got around to it. I wanted to get ahead of these Aussies as I knew they were doing this show soon, and it's much more enjoyable watching them watch something I've already watched. If you get my drift. That's a good number of states you've been to. More than me, and I've been here 18 years! Was that work-related, or pleasure? I live in the outskirts of Portland, Oregon, and also spent a year up in Seattle. The weather is pretty grim here, and slightly grimmer in Seattle. Both better than London though. Summers in the PNW are reasonably long and sunny. Can get VERY hot. A record 116F here a couple of years ago. I once travelled in mid-winter through Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, to Madison, Wisconsin. Now *that's* cold like I have never experienced before! Minus 30C was the lowest. Unbearable. According to your rules. I've been to two fewer states than I like to say I've been to. If we're now not counting an airport hotel in NY, and a quick cigarette between flights outside the terminal in Charlotte, South Carolina. Darn it. Although I did spend a couple of nights in Vancouver, BC. So, I know Canada, my friend! lol Amsterdam is a great city. Only spent two nights there in my youth and it was my last stop on the way back from a two-year travelling and working trip in Australia, and unfortunately, I didn't have a pot to piss in. So, I didn't get the best out of it, really. But the wonderful architecture, the canals, the art galleries, the weed, and the prostitutes. What's not to love? 😁 Talking of foreigners not getting food quite right, have you ever tried American fish 'n' chips? It's very nice and all, but it's not proper greasy fish 'n' chips. I miss that. And curry. And Twiglets. It's a long list... I won't bore you. That scary Eindhoven landing would have been just a strong crosswind, I imagine. It's called 'crabbing' and is quite normal. Oh, and you know that guys never look through the manual before attempting to work a new piece of equipment, so it couldn't have been that. Sounds like it was a private jet that you went on though. Nice. Ever been to Bergen? That looks like it would be nice. And all that travel you have done I can't believe you've never been to Spain. Mind you, what has Spain got that you can't find at your nearest northern seaside resort in England? lol So, where in this magical place called 'north' are you from? I went to Stoke once. And once to Manchester to see my team Stoke City play. (No overnighters though) Bizarrely, they've been my team since I was a wee lad. The Taskmaster house is in Chiswick, SW London. My aunty lived very close to it. It's quite close to the famous Kew Gardens Botanical Gardens. I grew up mainly around Twickenham and Richmond, right under the flight path to Heathrow, so I've always loved planes. There's a golf course next door that I've played on, and one green is just the other side of the garden wall. So, I've been within 30 yards of the house, but of course I didn't know it at the time. It's just off the Chertsey Road near to Chiswick Bridge. Well, nice chatting with you, Mr. Bulmer. Take care. Maybe see you on the next Film Slate offering. Regards,
