Drachinifel just uploaded a video about Dutch submarines in WWII. Near the end, he gets to O-19 (I think that was your sub in the last War on the Sea play through?) and apparently she had an interesting career… which started by her firing on a US freighter that was being towed to safety and thankfully missing… before finding actual Japanese merchants. Apparently, Dutch subs were under the command and supply of the British mainly, so they missed out of the Mk XIV “Failure Onion”.

Hum... Historical error here... The battle of Santa Cruz was few months after the month of May 1942...

What I really liked the most is that all of the Japanese naval aircraft have the correct color schemes for each of the planes. Red stripe(s) for Akagi and Kaga, blue stripe(s) for Soryu and Hiryu, white stripe(s) for Shokaku and Zuikaku; hopefully they will use the yellow stripes for the light/auxiliary carriers like Ryujo, Shoho and Junyo.

I honestly had no idea that this was a thing. It’s the little details like this which show how much care and dedication is being put into a game. Care and dedication are also prerequisites for the best games.

Commanders. For you guys curious the devs plan to have a ‘playable slice’ released before the end of 2023. A playable slice ‘a.k.a Demo’ might be a full scenario, part of a scenario (e.g. Battle of Coral Sea) this demo might be different from what Wolfpack345 has here 😀the full details of who can get this playable slice, to what extend (how many), will it be a kickstarter or not, and the other requirements are still being finalised. But, hopefully you guys will be getting more news shortly. Stay tuned Commanders 🙂

Isn't this the Unity engine? Wonder what new developments have arisen with development since the start of that debacle.

Can't get over how cool the presentation is, from the specific FOV choice, to the Battlestar Galactica-like war drums, to the Homeworld-like tactical view, this is a treat to simply watch.

Usually it's not a good day for the enemies in any game he happens to play.

I'm really hyped for this game. These amazing spectacles and camera point of views would do wonders in your story driven based campaigns!

@@christianfilippone5038 Well Drydock is certainly giving it a go. I hope the game does really well after release so that we might see different theatres for naval battles

After watching all the Montemayor videos about some of the battles in the pacific I sure hope that some of the randomness and fog of war is a serious part of this game. Bad and good sighting reports, radio interference, squads getting tunnel vision and going for the wrong target or just plain getting lost. It seems such a big part of war and most games just ignore it and everyone just acts perfectly.

The game will have FOW. You will be able to adjust how much FOW you experience in the scenarios. However, for the purpose of the above test scenario I suspect it may have been disabled so the Commander could experience all the action and potential camera angles and views.

The devs have said that they really want to focus on the fog of war. Apparently on the highest difficulty settings you can literally only see the commanders pov on the bridge of your flagship and the rest is sketchy WW2 intel

The Japanese used colorful antiaircraft munitions to identify their ships.

The detail is stunning. Been watching for years. Every update on progress has been impressive. This dev team is killing it.

By far the best cinematography and presentation of all youtubers I saw presenting this. Good job.

I love the attention to detail in this game, especially the markings! I really want to see this game succeed widely in a space that's sorely needing a really fleshed out game of this type!

Was hoping that you would get on this, Admiral Wolfpack. Indeedy it's different, as the first time I ever watched it the USS Hornet was struck by two torpedo's!

Incredible how much potential this game has, fingers crossed they pull it off!

It's quite epic seeing plane formations of that size. And nice AI with the ships evading. Looks promising!

I cannot tell you how much I agree with you. One thing I always missed with games like these is how absolutely beautiful these Carrier Strike Formations look. Just 60, 70, 80+ planes in one big formation towards their targets... Just hnnng I love it.

Wow! Looking VERY appealing and promising. This one has been on my Steam wishlist for some time already. The only 'disappointment' worth mentioning is that it would have been nice to see structural battle damage on the ships after bomb hits (in addition to the current fire and smoke effects). At this point, it seems only planes show any battle damage.

Structural damage is a very low priority for them (as well as pretty much anything aesthetic) but it’ll probably be there eventually, if not in Volume 1 than Volume 2

Brings back memories of TF1942

I've had this on my wishlist for quite some time. Glad to see you've got a first look and am interested on your take.

Here we go again. Wolfpack has such diverse content. 🙂 Excellent graphics in the demo. I like the "order of battle" panel, but to see action of specific aircraft units seems quite cumbersome. do prefer, however, to see Wolfpack actually have some control of the units during battle. I subscribe and support his channel to watch him and hear his running commentary.

You know. I need really some kind of the board like in the movie Midway. When you were making those intros to Il-2 Sturmovik that would be great to see all yours and enemy's pilots, dead, alive, misssing etc.

Looks fantastic ! I already have it wished listed. Definitely will be buying this when released.

My favourite thing about this game so far is the realtime launching of aircraft and the physics of the aircraft! They are so legit, hopefully in the future they will add personnel to carriers.

I’ll never play this game but oh boy I’m excited to watch Wolfpack have a crack at it!

Good attention to detail from the developer. I like the small touches, like the bullet holes in the aircraft and the ability to see the fire from underwater. Looks cool 😎

Good to see them hopefully making some progress. I had this on wish list with Steam since Feb 2021 and at the time, they did have some release dates announced, etc. Obviously those got changed at some point and I have been wondering what has been happening since. The graphics have looked really good from day one and I hope the game play will match as well. It is obviously going to get compared to WOTS and hopefully will do better in the areas that game is very weak at (like the fact that the player can essentially sink the other fleet while not losing very much). Thanks for putting this up Wolf. Looking forward to seeing you play it.

This game sort of reminds me of battle stations midway. That game was amazing and I really enjoyed the multiplayer aspect where each player controlled the different ship types and worked together.

In another video I watched from a different channel had Hornet eat about seven torpedoes which was pretty devastating, nice to see the “Grey Ghost” and Hornet get out without much damage.

Love the wildcats unfolding their wings and spotting on the deck. Wish you could see crew though - the 20mm moving on their own is weird. Excited for this game though!

I've seen this demo a couple times now, Shikaku got toasted by dive bombers and the Big E was listing as she got laced by torps.

This would be even better if they showed the crew, particularly for the carriers.

Whenever I see a WWII naval strategy game, I always compare it to the classics - "Pacific Storm". And PS still holds the winner flag. Damn, it still looks great after all this years! I'm curious if Wolfpack ever tried it or ever will.

This looks fantastic! I've been following the updates and its nice to see everything come together, even if it is just a demo as a spectator. It looks like you have free range to move the camera all over, correct?

Microprose is just the publisher. Drydock Games are doing the work.

Be good if they put in the wing tips folding and unfolding on the A6M2's when they are being brought up from the carriers elevators

It would be cool to see the ships have secondary explosions due to the fires and what not

As a Battle Stations Midway player I have been waiting for a game like this for years. I cant wait for this game to get released I cant wait to use the sandbox to create massive CV battles or CV vs BB battles.

Now this is a game I'm interested in!!

This game makes my gut drop out it's got good midair perspective. Very nice clouds and waves and such. If they had a little messier formations too.

This game is super exciting. I'm glad they're taking their time and refraining from released a half baked game. What we see here is already super promising, I can't imagine the full game will be anything less than spectacular. It looks like what War on the Sea wants to be when it grows up lol

Thanks Lobo. Your adventures in history never cease to fascinate me. Love the games. My mom was born in Ewa and was on a bus to Sunday school on Dec 7. My Uncle I never met was killed on the Quincy at Savo Island. I have always had a special interest in the Pacific campaign. A strange curiosity born from my Mom's Japanese heritage. I have Japanese, Italian and Swedish blood, but that is what makes America great. Can't wait to see this game.

I watched this on another KZread channel and in that, the Enterprise was hammered by 3 torpedos in the initial attack whereas your carrier avoided them so at least it's not a scripted demo. If you replay it multiple times, you'll get different outcomes which should be interesting in itself

Very nice! However! Midway was the last use of Devastators. By the Battle of Santa Cruz, the Avengers had replaced them. I hope it has it so you can command a Surface Battle Force too!

This is only a test scenario. Most likely they weren’t concerned about which map they used hence while they are utilising the Santa Cruz map but devastators. Could also be they are finalising the Avenger model and/or AI. Actually, might be a question that could be asked how the avenger model is going. As off the top of my head from their discord channel I don’t remember the last time the avenger was mentioned. Could be I missed the update.

Been wondering if the scenario plays out differently if you run it multiple times. Good to see thats the case. Also historically accurate in the fleet dispositions, with the IJN not having their escorts in closer unlike the USN. I'm beyond hyped for this release
