Task Force Admiral Vol.1: American Carrier Battles is a single-player experience centered on the command of an early Pacific War US Navy carrier task force. As the overall commander, you are in charge of seeking the destruction of the enemy naval forces and preventing your opponent, the Japanese Navy, from accomplishing its objectives. To achieve your aims, you have at your disposal the most fearsome sea projection weapon known to Man in 1942: your carrier air groups and the task forces that support them.

EXCELLENT interview. I'm very happy you've read some of the great, detailed works that have been written in the last 20 years about all of this. An excellent more recent work about the Guadalcanal Campaign are the two volumes by Jeffrey Cox ("Morning Star, Midnight Sun" and "Blazing Star, Setting Sun"). I look forward to your development and have put it on my Wishlist at Steam.

Something missing for the Western public/English-speaking world is a complete translation of the JAPANESE volumes on the history of WWII. The only one I've found fully translated is available on the Australian War History website, specifically the volume about the New Guinea Campaign.

Idea: I'm sure you know the "War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition" from Matrix Games. I would say the 'crazy want' would be to integrate something like WitP:AE with the whole concept of Task Force Admiral.

its more akin to war on the sea. but it has a greater ability to scale in an out, at least during engagements. with greater emphasis on carrier ops. since they include the full suite of animations
This looks like a better version of war on the sea, looking forwards to play it :D

As fun as WotS is, the AI is horrific. Battleships can't hit the broadside of a barn at under 10 kyds (point blank range btw) and without mods, you'd be lucky to ever encounter an enemy task force larger than 6 ships. TFA looks incredible.

Exactly, looks like upgraded war on the sea. Which was enjoyable imo but not great
I am so hyped for this game, this is a modern true attempt at creating a ww2 carrier sim, but not just a carrier, a task force. The deatil that is going into this game from carrier operations to fleet formations and surface and air battles. This game I think will truly put you in the seat of men like Admiral Fletcher or Admiral Halsey or Admiral Spruance and make you as the player have to make similar decisions they did at Coral Sea or Midway and other battles.
Just listening to this is giving me so many ideas. Like what if in the most realistic setting you had to view gun camera footage from returned aircraft to see a limited view of what happened and only after the whole mission ends you can get access to the full replay.
would love to see you make a series on this WP, the game looks really beautiful

I remember playing Task Force 1942 when it first came out. I became very good with Japanese torpedo tactics. I would drive destroyers at the enemy line abreast, have all units turn the same way as one, launch torpedoes as they came to bear, then continue the turn to withdraw again in line abreast. Rinse and repeat for reloads. I had a different tactic for cruisers.

I have said this before on other social media platforms, but this is the exact game I have been waiting for since 11-year old me first read FIRST TEAM in 1984 or 1985. I am so glad the TFA team taking their time to make the game they want... I have waited almost 40 years for this game, and I will happily wait as long as it takes. The game play makes the doctrine nerd in me excited. Deferred Departure or Normal? Inner Air Patrols? SBDs as anti torpedo plane defense? TFA is the only game I know of to tackle these things. I know I am in the minority, but I am fascinated by the evolution of USN and USMC markings between December 1941 and the summer of 1942. So is TFA, nailing aircraft with 4 roundels and six, varied side markings, candy cane stripes, etc. The extra attention to detail makes the level of immersion that much greater. The idea of re-fighting Midway with CarDiv 5 and LEXINGTON? That is the stuff dreams are made of. Yep, I am so excited for this game.

Outstanding interview! I couldn't be more excited about this game. Thank you so much for info and preview. The Pacific Theater is my favorite genre by far for WWII war games and this one is looking like it has all the things I wanted but didn't have in previous games.

Great interview. Can’t wait to dive in to the single player scenarios. Graphics look brilliant. The team at Drydock is doing a fantastic job. I appreciated the comments about Admiral Fletcher as I also find him a sympathetic figure who hasn’t been given the widespread credit he deserves.
Spooky that watching the intro to this vid, I got exactly the same feeling of anticipation as 35 years ago when awaiting the release of SSI's great naval battles 1939-45... in those days the rush was to get to your local computer shop and by a physical boxed copy of the games... Gawd I wished I'd kept them all, and not "car booted" them years ago. Well done to the developers for what looks to be a fantastic piece of graphical wargaming....and yourself for a great interview.

Really looking forward to this game to come out. Alot of games are missing these variable effects like wind & weather intelligence etc.. I recall a super nintendo game i loved Pacific Theater of Operations i would love to see that remade with this type of variables built into the gameplay. It's so hard to put the comitment you guys had put on this project during all this time. When everything is weighted by money and physicalities, to bet that hard on the "virtual world" to materialize a dream is admirable! and ofcourse give us inspiration to keep beleaving in our goals. Having and still at times playing the old snes pto 02 putting a game together like that with todays graphics making the gameplay as hands on or not depending on the player will make a good game! This looks promising! The openended option either keeping with history or going with your own will sell it for me! An earlier start time 39 giving the player ghosts to use(ex.forcez etc) or the undamaged pacific fleet! I wrote this listening to the interview good session gentlemen!

Message for the Devs - Please don't be like the Devs of Aircraft Carrier Survival and abandon your game in a broken state. Huge disappointment in what is a game that had huge potential. I'd like to see this game go further. Edit: Thank you for playing the game while he was talking. Looks amazing!

Thank you§ For ammo, restocking, docking, etc... no - it's a tactical wargame, the "harbor" part of operations is not simulated, and replenishment at sea at that time did not include magazines & storage of all sorts, fuel aside. On the other hand, fuel will be a common issue you run into as you have to manage your level of fuel supply in two regards - Make sure that your Task Force always had what it takes to accomplish its mission - Make sure that each individual ship is provided for and will not cause an issue by being a fuel outlier. It means organizing your operations so as to refuel at sea when needed, whether with dedicated assets when they are available in the scenario (aka replenishment task forces) or using your own ships to top off (cruisers & carriers are allowed to refuel their destroyers). Naturally, either option requires a moment of calm at a quiet spot in your combat planning. It's your job to make it happen if you were to need it. Cheers!

Honestly, best thing to do is ask around and try to find a friend of yours that is into gaming. Trying to find a comprehensive guide on how to get into computer gaming, whether it be anything from how to build a computer, to how to install mods for games, is hard. Having a friend to help kick the whole process off is really helpful. Also, hope you have money to spend cuz computer gaming isnt cheap. It costs a lot to build a computer and buy all the games too.

Please Drydock Dreams, I'm begging you. Put Multiplayer at the BOTTOM of your priority list. PLEASE! There are so many things I'd much rather see in TFA before MP.

Well multiplayer kinda requires to reinvent the genre considering the scale (and many other aspects so as to be a realistically enjoyable experience in spite of it) so you can feel safe from now, it's really not a priority at all ^^
It would be awesome to be able to play as the Imperial Japanese Navy.

Well in the far future perhaps, but we'd have to make sure more roles & platforms for gameplay are available ;) At the end of the day though, in regard of multiplayer, it's better that you enthusiasts do not hold high hopes for too early on, mainly because I have the feeling many of those who ask for it are not currently 100% conscious of what it implies in terms of watching a map and nothing happening in absence of the holy time compression (which is obviously much easier to implement in a single player mode). Clearly, Multiplayer won't be a thing in our game before we make sure to have the right gameplay for it.

Just bouncing back on the bit where they go "-and he or she will be able to... well I say she... -You'd be surprised" There are not many women into these kind of games but we do exist. Andf unfortunately we often feel very unwelcome in the fanbases of such games. Not gonna go off on a long rant here but keep in mind we're just here to enjoy the same things as you as fellow simulation fans :)

Yes, that's why I always, by reflex, say "he or she" - my Sister was a big Counter Strike player so I know you ladies are out there too :) That follow-up remark was just a pun, apologies. Don't worry you shall not be forgotten, and it gives me all the more confirmation that I should keep saying that (despite not seeing it too often...). I do tend to call the Player... well, "the Player" in our development papers for that reason alone so that I never have to use a pronoun and can have it feel more inclusive. So do feel welcome, you truly are - at least on our grounds :) Cheers

Sorry, it is not in the plans for now (at least for now). We will complete development on Windows first before entertaining other platforms, can't afford otherwise considering our current workflow. Thank you for your understanding :)

The reason I havent purchased it yet is that I wonder if the dev's know what they are doing with wargame design. The level bombers are far too effective. If that can't get that right... All these computer designers end up compromising the end product by making them 'accessible'. They end up feeling like an RTS instead of a wargame. Wargames are called 'conflict simulations' for a reason. Here's a hint. There are thousands of cardboard simulation games out there, thousands. If you don't understand why they still exist, you don't know wargame design. Its that simple.

I don't know if I can claim that I absolutely know what I am doing with that project in regard of wargame design, but I am not 100% sure either that you are absolutely sure of which game you're talking about - or you're coming from the future, which might still be a possibility I guess.
