Tarland Is The Best Trail Centre I've Ridden! And It's Brand New
Спорт
After what seemed like an eternity waiting, Scotland's newest trail centre is finally open to the public. It was 100% worth the wait though.
I'm genuinely impressed with the job that's been done at Tarland and I truly believe that it's going to massively boost mountain biking in Aberdeenshire and beyond.
Get yourselves to Tarland!

Thanks for the shout out Andrew. I loved how you rode about 3 berms and decided you loved the place! I was the same. Finally we have a serious trail centre offering trails that we rarely get to ride. But more than that, the quality of the build is next level. Just imagine CRC had designed and built the Blue Doon! Perfect trail centre. Just perfect. Gotta love a new trail centre to explore. But I wouldn't be too harsh about Scotland's MTB options when you've got trail centres like the 7 Stanes, Laggan, Glenlivet, Moray Monster, & gondola uplifts at Fort William & Glencoe! But I agree there must be potential for a Scots version of BPW, Dyfi or Antur Stiniog,
@McTrailRider
Жыл бұрын
I probably should have worded it better. My frustration is mainly with the lack of development or keeping with the times from the forestry run centres. A lot of our trail centres are quite tech focused as well, which obviously doesn’t necessarily suit beginners. Here pretty much every trail can be ridden by everyone👍

Great trail review, do you like these trails more than dyf ? Can you list your top 10 favourite trails here ?
@McTrailRider
Жыл бұрын
I don’t feel the two places are actually comparable. One is a trail centre without an uplift, and the other one is a bike park with uplifts. Tarland is a better destination, and for appealing to the masses, I.E people of all levels should be able to enjoy the trails. Dyfi is aimed more towards the intermediate to advanced riders and has amazing features as a result.
Looks great, I live not far away and have a Vitus aswell, how did the battery do ?

Жыл бұрын
Better done pretty well, I could have done everything on the one battery 👍
Totally agree, the bike park scene is non-existent in Scotland, and we've got places like Nevis Range squandering their opportunities. Places like this just show what is possible. THAT is what a blue flow trail should be, totally rollable and safe but fun for anyone. Send the Tarland trail builders to Glencoe, Glenshee and Nevis Range! One point, we need to ditch orange grade, it's not helpful. Look at the Alps and Canada, black trails (e.g. A-line) are still entirely rollable with chicken lines, but the black grade indicates the size of the jumps and features. I think that is a better way of doing it than orange, which is not used consistently and doesn't really say anything about the trail. All of these trails could be orange.
@McTrailRider
Жыл бұрын
I agree fully with your thoughts regarding some of the other destinations in Scotland and what they could be. The grading system is always tough to get right and I adjusts take them with a pinch of salt.
@HankBizzle
Жыл бұрын
I totally agree with dropping the stupid orange grading, the North American bike parks just label them as flow or tech trails and give them the appropriate colour for their difficulty. Just remember if you ever go to a NA bike park that the colour codes are different, they have Blue, Black, Double Black an THEN Red, unless you are a pro you stay the hell off the red trails 😅
Looks like fun man! Question though; ‘red’? What is ‘red’? In Canada we have green, blue, black and double black trails.

Probably not, but there’s a camp site in the village and many quiet spots nearby.
I enjoyed the trails but they are not for everyone. I appreciate its meant to be flow orientated but it was more like very smooth BMX tracks and they are all very samey. No variation between grades etc. Good for families or a blast if nearby. Personally I probably won't be back but it's very subjective.
