This Is What The Tweed Valley Needed!

Well, it finally happened! Glentress finally got an actual upgrade to its trails.
After years and years of investing into pretty much everything except the trails themselves, they finally used some of they're millions to spend on the actual trails.
Whilst these upgrades are well overdue in my opinion, they are very good, and it's super exciting to have these new trails available now.
The following video shows the trails off, and should give you an idea of what to expect if you visit.

Climbing to Spooky woods is longer but much bigger fun. Also as now is plenty people riding new trails it was wonderfully not crowded :D and Spooky is still ultimately good!!!

    @@ontrackccwhen you get hired to build these tracks who decides whether the trail is too dangerous or not? As in, who is there to say you cannot place a 30 foot gap in the jump line, and where is the line between acceptable and too risky? I get that (especially in glentress, full of enduro dads who cant get 2 wheels off the ground) these jumps can be a risk, but we really need some bigger stuff in scotland. The lack of it is holding back the development of our riders.

    I enjoyed riding these trails and while the jumps are a bit disappointingly small on the black (and a bit lacking in variety with mostly straight tables), i think these have been worth the wait. BUT...the pessimistic side of me can't help but wonder if these trails will ever get properly maintained. History has told is the 7 stanes/FLS trails tend to get left to rot despite high car park fees. Nice to have, but I'll still need to make the trek to Aberdeenshire or Wales to get a variety of well maintained jump lines. A step in the right direction though and pleased with the builds.

    I think for a Forestry run trail centre, the jumps are about as big/good as we can expect. They’re big enough for me 😬 I 100% agree about the maintenance, they have a very poor record historically and these types of trails will require a higher level of maintenance than the trails of old.

    Why, after so many years in the bringing of these trails in to existence did they not wait until spring to open them?! It’s Scotland they must know how about the weather!? they will be immediately ridden to death and knackered before next spring and then that’s how they will remain for evermore. This is clearly demonstrated by having to shut sections already. If they had given it all winter for these highly manufactured trails to bed in and surfacing materials to settle then they would last for years - even with high volumes of users.

  • @McTrailRider

    @McTrailRider

    8 ай бұрын

    They were meant to be opened in June, before the world champs I believe, but the trails were too soft. So in short, they already delayed the trails. As for the maintenance, they need to do a far better job than they’ve been doing for the last decade or so.

  • @richardwallace9378

    @richardwallace9378

    That is true about the maintenance. Any Maintenance in past 10 years at glenntress would have been nice! Still think that with these type of trails they just need shutting for the worst of the winter months. Whistler seems to do ok and makes a big deal of the trails opening again each spring. Imagine how many vloggers would be in the tweed valley that opening weekend...

    Even though they are wonderful flow trails, I think it is actually quite ridiculous to include one-meter-wide trails (f.i. 10:53) with massive burms in the landscape, making them very visible and not discreetly disappear into the green. Actually quite scandalous to destroy the landscape so much. Section 10:22 is far more discrete.

    this is the legacy of the world champs. they will never get the money back, they want people getting involved in the sport, and want to cater for most riders. What do you expect, a Whistler Aline, that very few riders will use, and not pay to ride it? They charge you for the car park - which can only be so much, but they're not allowed to charge for access to land, that's why there's so few trails like this in Scotland. Building trails like this costs real money. You have hard techy stuff just up the road, and there's always Ft Bill.

    There are plenty of off piste stuff at GT for advanced riders. The jumps on the black and red trails need skills and being able to modulate your speed on the flow isn't easy either. Plenty of people have been finding these new trails difficult. The wee drop straight into a corner @3:56 isn't as easy as it looks.
