Tara Brach Discusses Awakening through Anger - The U-Turn to Freedom (Part 1)

Awakening through Anger - The U-Turn to Freedom - Part 1 (11/11/2015)
Anger is naturally triggered when we feel an obstacle to meeting our needs. How do we honor the intelligence within anger, but not get hijacked into emotional reactivity that creates suffering in our individual and collective lives? This talk explores the U-turn that enables us to offer a healing attention to the feelings and unmet needs under anger. Once present with our inner life, we are able to respond to those around us with wisdom, empathy and true strength.

Sadly I feel like I failed on the anger front this eve! Your words are spot on. I am in a relationship/friendship in which I really go off when my buttons get pushed. When I see him leave me hanging in the name of "work to do", I feel flaked on, de-prioritized, unimportant and angry...then I lose it. Standing out in the cold and rain and he can't drop his hammer and show up when he stated he would? Again? And again? I resorted to calling him a name tonight. I feel shame that I resorted to such lows, yet meant it. I have contained my anger when the truth is--- "you ARE being an ***hole." Why must I hide it? I feel that as a woman I am told to quiet down. But when I need to speak up, and say- I am not going to be a doormat (even though I just subjected myself to it (again).. calling him the ***hole also comes with me feeling like the I*diot for falling for it again. Working on it. Being with it. Moving through it. Transcending my personal shame over lashing out. Learning to find out why it triggers me so in the first place.

...Anger is like avoiding an angry moose...keeping your safe distance and avoid getting stampeded and getting close-up with a pair of antlers...

Today, i really put alot of effort to get incontact with my self, i realised that i usually got really easily irritated and i expressed anger, but i know, that´s not me, not the person i want to be. And for some small reasons as well. So i know, it is becuase of my fears, alot of fears, especially the fear of not being good enough, n then i did some meditation, and i realised that being bullied in highschool left a wound, n i really need to get incontact with it, for soooo many years i just let i slide, cause i just coud´nt bare it, but, now i know, for med to get hole, to really get in touch with my self, i just need to face my fears! Thank u Tara, u help med alot!
