Tap Wrench Restoration [Powder Coating And Paint Trick]
Ғылым және технология
In this restoration of a tap wrench I remove rust using rust remover and sandblasting, apply powder coating, use an easy and effective way to apply paint to relief, bluing some parts and cut threads. Not that much equipment was needed for the restoration, powder coating was an especially fun part.
▬ What did I do ?! ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
The disassembly was done quickly, because I had to remove only 3 screws. I then blasted all the parts in the sandblasting cabin, using corundum as the abrasive. With a file I restored the "grip" of the screws. With bluing (hot bluing) I protect the screws from corrosion. On the other components, from the antique tap wrench, I applied powder coating and then melted it in the oven. I resharpened the tap with sandpaper and smeared it with oil. After reassembly, I was still missing a rod as a handle, I made this right away with the old antique tap wrench.
▬ Good to know ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
I used the following tools: file, sandblasting cabin, corundum abrasive, cordless screwdriver, sandpaper, tap, rust remover spray, rust remover, powder paint, powder coater, oven, pliers, isopropanol

I cannot express how happy I am that you had to use a tap in your restoration of a tap.

Woah got a head of myself. They also used a die.
The only downside of your restoration is that i would never use that tool again .. rather i would hang in the wall as another piece of art !! Gorgeous !! Congrats.

Just a little tip for when you powder coat, if you want the powder to stick better and cover every nook and cranny, preheat the metal first and coat it when it’s around 250 degrees F. The powder comes out much smoother too :)

Just looking at this piece of artwork "tool", one would assume that it was part of a set with multiple cutting heads, or maybe a stand alone for use in a factory setting. Either way I enjoyed watching this video. Thanks for sharing. 👍😁🇨🇱🇺🇸

The piece looked very nice at the end. Did the powder coating in your kitchen leave much of a smell or any mess in the oven? I am posting a video later today in which I tempered an axe head in my kitchen oven after quenching it in motor oil and the whole house smelled like a burnt up engine. It was terrible! Nice work reviving this old tool. Cheers!

I was about to comment about the balloon trick. I have never seen that done before. Novel idea and it worked like a charm.
While electric kitchen ovens can be used in powder coating, you can't use the same oven that you cook food into powder coat. That's because any powder left in the oven will produce toxic fumes that will get into the food.

04:11 - is that bolt glowing as blue as it looks or is this just an illusion brought by the cameras perspective? It looks odd to me lol
