Honestly I wouldn't even call O.O a necessarily bad song, it just wasn't for the tastes of a normal Kpop listener. I'm a Metalhead first and a K-pop fan second, and the rough, abrasive vocal mixing of O.O scratched the same itch that grimy garage produced black metal does and I LOVE it.

Same here,. Rock/Metal first, then pop/kpop/techno, industrial. O.O gives that variety that people like us multi genre fans understand. That's why kpop got my attention and I love the variety certain groups provide. NMIXX is giving musical uniqueness in kpop that's not something common or basic or another rap kpop song or super repeating like most other kpop songs, that's what I look for the most on kpop and groups like Itzy, Nmixx and aespa are some of those.

O.O felt like what JYP believed Tank would fall short, but in the end they overdid it, and yes O.O was genuinely the worst thing I had ever heard. I didn’t listen to it fully until after 3 months.

Tank has one of the best builds in any song ever. The pressure is rising right from the start, and tension builds even more in the prechorus when they tease "Like a tank, I'ma-", then everything explodes in the chorus. Absolute banger that never fails to get me hyped up.

This group is brilliant and stacked with the talent to perform. Idk what creative team or producers JYP pulled for early Nmixx, I wish they stuck around. But i do understand they had to water the concept down and reroute for them to succeed in 4th gen and be more acceptable for general public.

I grew up listening to kpop esp SM ent girl groups so I'm used to the 'mix pop' sound (which growing up I called it SM experimental sound bc they were the only ones mixing music like this) So when I heard O.O I thought people would love it bc it replicates that sound with a JYP twang. On top of the vocals being top tier, the choreography and concept are all very very cool and interesting. I was surprised when I saw all the hate. But it made me realize that most kpop fans nowadays are new and really only listen to modern sounds. So they aren't used to the 'experimental' sound. I'm glad people are becoming more open to it bc music doesn't all have to sound the same and I think it's cool how music can carry a unique story by mixing the sound like this. I agree that a lot of people complain about a lack of talent in kpop and then skip out on godly performers just bc they are doing a unique concept or are from a small company etc. Personally, I feel like most idols are all genuinely talented, some need time to adjust to live performances compared to just the usual training environment. I imagine it can be a bit of a nerve-wracking, sensory overload when they debut and some people just handle it better than others. But that doesn't mean they aren't talented, they just need time to get used to the new environment. While having a packed schedule, loads of criticism for every little mistake from both the public and their company, extreme dieting, hardly spending time with friends/family esp of they are foreigners. I think idols deserve some grace for all that they put up with. Most people wouldn't survive the conditions that they work under.

Ad Mare is honestly such a polarizing and experimental debut. O.O’s production and song structure is very.. interesting, ngl the nmixx switch up part is not a bridge but a whole other part by itself sure it is very contrasting to its counterpart however it does not bridge the two parts of the song together - in fact it tears the whole song apart, the production is also absolutely jarring which is the whole point. TANK’s structure is quite linear and typical however the production is highly experimental and non-linear and I can see why people prefer it more as it feels more normal for k-pop structure wise. TANK is definitely a final boss fighting song it’s just very loud in that way, reminds me of when I spar in Taekwondo (and when i actually win which is a bit rare). Also I love the dreamcatcher self, you’ve got quite a collection going!

They have really proven themselves time and time again. And I d k how you felt about their debut.. but their Recent music is competing with the best releases. And their latest album Fe3O4 break is a skinless album and it literally shook everyone. With tracks like.. Dash, Run for Roses, soñar, Passionfruit and Boom being MUST try songs. The others like the unsung XOXO and break the wall do not fall behind. It's just simply the matter of people choosing to hate on them at this point.

Bro people keep on downplaying NMIXX I AM SICK OF THE SLANDER AND HATE ‼️‼️ they are literally saying they aren’t popular and to an extent it may be true but that was only during their debut era… ever since expergo came out they have been gaining traction… I am sad to see people hating my girls because they deserve so much.. and its so cool to see a group not coming from sm that actually have THEE VOCALS… someone was arguing to me about how aespa, kof, and billlie are more stunning vocally than NMIXX but I will die on that grave mentioning NMIXX being that group who raised the bar in terms of vocals bc nobody does it like they do.. I MEAN COME ON ?!? Who does an acapella on a music show AND sings live like you can look at all of the artists reaction when they hear their vocals loud and clear (see their dash music wins it was so satisfying to watch 😭😭😭) you can argue with me all you want but I would say NMIXX are the top vocalists of 4th gen.. like all members are talented.. all are aces… next in the vocal hierarchy would probably be aespa but thats just me… anyways love Taejiu ❤

THE VOCAL FACTORY IM DEAD 💀 also dont forget Haewon whew…. Those three are carrying 4th gen on their backs LOLLL.. and Kyujin, Bae and Jiwoo would ALL be lead vocalists in other groups like bro- this group is just IT… IT.

Amazing 40min love letter video essay for one song. IMO, it’s elevated by your tangents to your personal touchstones, rather than sticking with passion-less objectivism or appeals to high platonic ideals. 🐡🐬🐠🐋🐠🐬🐡

Pokemon has also had a big influence on my life and my love for music so seeing you talk about both made me giddy lol. Ngl when you were talking about the piano in the bridge and its intimidating feel, it made me think of Dialga and Palkia’s theme and how the piano there is used to demonstrate a sense of reverence and power. I grew up with Pearl and Platinum so gen 4 music is pretty nostalgic for me. Also I love Zame’s work! I’ve been following their stuff for a few years now and it’s always super good quality. I also really like Braxton Burks on Spotify; he makes classical arrangements of Pokemon tracks.
