Quick correction and update to the weather-sealing: The Tamron is actually fully weather-sealed while the Sony is not guaranteed to be 100% dust- and moisture-proof.

Recently got the Tamron myself. Pretty happy with it as we shoot often in low light so that f2.8 comes in handy but the 24-105 seems awesome too.

Yea, i currently have the Sony 24 - 105. I am really thinking about getting the Tamron becuz of it macro capabilities ;)

Yes, since the Sony 24 - 105 has optical stabilization, it work together with the IBIS on the SonyA7III resulting in a much better image stabilization :)

I picked up the 24-105 for $950 - so it's a no brainer for me. So far, I'm loving it.

I owned Tammy but replaced it with Sony 16-35, so missing the focal range 70. Recently by chance got Sony 24-105 used for $620........... excellent shooter !

great video, I have the tamron and recently just got the sony as well to add to the range, love the build quality of the sony, gonna do a lot of testing myself

What are your conclusions ? I already have the Tammy but I do mostly video and like the idea of OSS for handheld. Plus the easy access to manual focus and weather resistance outdoors/travel is worth the price difference I think. What do you think?

The Tamron is a winner in my book. I love Tammy! Size/Weight: Tamron Aperture: Tamron f/2.8 is a full stop brighter. In the photography world f2.8 means a lot! Cost: Tamron Reach: Tamron in Crop mode goes to 112.5mm f/4. which is all I need. Weather sealed: Tamron is, Sony is unsure themselves. lol Build Quality: Tamron wins, here's why: Sony's build is better, but only has a 1 year warranty. Tamron's plastic lens has a 6 year warranty! Tamron wins again. Image quality: Tamron is sharper by a little. OSS: Sony has it, but Sony’s IBIS helps the tamron. Sony wins here by a tad. Good video, keep it up! I love that you did a head to head with your brother and it shows there's no true winner as all lenses suits different needs. Except this one where Tammy wins. lol

You will surely be happy with the Sony 24- 105mm F4.

I own tamron 28-75 f2.8 , I notice tamron has some difficulty af in low light .... when I used my sony 16-35 f4 in the low light , I noticed af no problem in the low light ....

I tried the Tamron with the Sony a7iii and I couldn’t get over how shaky the video was, no matter how steady I tried holding it. My iphone video is more stable :( the photos were great though.

Yes me too most of the time I had to add stabilization in post. Thats why i prefer the Somy 24-105mm F4. iPhone stabilization are getting better and better and for most of the shots you wouldn’t even need a gimbal :)

Thanks for your comment! If you are looking to get more stable shots handheld, use a strap around your neck that allows for three-point-contact, use a wider angle, turn in image stabilization on lens, further stabilize footage in post, shoot with higher frame rates to slow it down in post (looks smoother), lean on a wall or object, use the view-finder as a three point contact, hold your breath, for moving shots bend your knees slightly and move slowly, add weight to your camera like a battery grip to get less shakier shots. Hope that helped ;)

I would say almost the same. The Tamron is slightly sharper.

Hows the manual focus of both?

Thanks for your question. Both focus really smoothly, I haven’t noticed a difference.

to compare the two objectives the same situations must appear. Different characters appear in the comparison, and it should not be so.

The Tamron is derpy with tit's back to front rings and losing that 4mm on the wide end makes a big difference, plus the lack of OSS makes a lot of handheld shots unusable with the A7III's crappy IBIS, I do mostly run and gun shooting and I'd much rather have slightly less bokeh and get more stable shots

Please guys who can help me to choose Sony a6600 16-55 f2.8 vs Sony a7iii 24-105 f4 They are almost the same price(a7iii is slightly higher) but what about that f stop? Is f2.8 on crop sensor equivalent to f4 on full?? And if u were me what camera whould you choose?

I would go with the SonyA73 its a great price for what you get. Still using it today. You wont be disappointed great for hybrid shooters!

Sony is an old lens not for milc bodies and not for videos, Tamron is more silent and quicker in af, distorsion is repairable, but you didn't mentioned CA, which is very well controllen in Tamron but not is Sony lens. Tamron could be better but for this price I think it is better choice.

Most people buy the tamron 28-75mm and get the 17-28mm after. This is a no brainer as they come with f2.8. You should be comparing this lens to other 24-70mm lenses
