This is absolutely AWESOME, Thankyou so much. It's going to make the Hornet so much better than straight out of the box. Tamiya left the Hornet half dome in my opinion. And the rear end is to be honest, junk that slapping sloppiness in the rear diff hangers is abominable. I reckon the Grasshopper Was better rear end set up with Hornet or even better aftermarket shocks. Still doesn't solve the unsprung weight issue but would make it so much better than standard. Having said this much though, I've also seen a fifth shock modification available for Hornet and Lunchbox and Midnight Pumpkin. Basically a 5th shock is put on rear axle shaft to chassis and eliminates the sloppy slapping that the tiny flimsy little wire springs can't control. The car can definitely be improved. But I suppose I should keep in mind this car was released at a time when the only RC cars available were toy grade and the Hornet was a huge improvement over toy grade. It was fast at the time and I suppose people weren't too worried about the shortcomings in design. Anyway great work from dustyfingersRC I've subscribed 👌👍

Hi. Thanks for leaving a good detailed comment as well as for the support. I've seen the 5th shock mod and like that idea. I thought about doing it to the Lunchbox but at the the time I bought the Ampro axle brace. Much better but it would be good to improve it further although, I would still want to have one with the classic bounce too. As you mentioned, they represent a certain time and I like going back to that era.

Hi there and a very fortuitous video for me to watch. I’m hoping to go back to my 1984 routes and get myself a Hornet, and yes, back in 1984, that front end was very bouncy indeed. A great solution using a combination of Grasshopper 2 A Arms, Lunchbox ‘U’ brackets, M3 rods, M5 ball ends and rod ends and those Tamiya super mini shocks. The most heart pounding bit, would be gently shaving some of the bath tub chassis to allow for some clearance, but a great video indeed. Take care and best wishes to you all for Christmas 😊😊😊

You are capable and patient enough to take only as much as you would need to off the chassis. It wasn't that bad, just keep eyeing it up. Think back about the process, I used a pencil to mark the chassis where it was binding and worked to that line. Damn, I should of put that in the video 🤔Had the video done for a few days and been playing it back to see if there was anything I had forgot too. I did this a while back now and that part only came to me cause of your comment.

@@DustyFingersRC Hi there and thank you for your advice. So glad that I was able to trigger a little extra! 🤣😂🤣 great idea placing some pencil marks onto the chassis to see where the chassis requires some further delicate shaving. Your video will certainly help me, I think it will help many with the chassis and even those with the Lunchbox chassis too. A great tip to get some better handling from a classic chassis, I can hardly wait….but I’m going to have I to. Take care and best wishes to you all. Happy Christmas 🎄
