【Tamiya Grasshopper】 3D Printed Trailing Arm Conversion Kit-Major Upgrade!|타미야 그래스호퍼 트레일링암 컨버전

Ойын-сауық

Its already 2 years ago since I released my trailing arm conversion kit for tamiya Grasshopper (and hornet also).
Developing the kit was such an enjoyable experience for myself, I learned a lot in 3d modeling and 3d printing skill, which upgrade my rc hobby to another level.
However the kit had some issues since this conversion it was my first attempt with 3d printing.
I decided to go through major upgrade to the kit for :
more simple assembly,
more strength and rigidity
as well as economically cheaper parts.
Watch how I managed to upgrade my own kit for far better grasshopper!

    That is excellent! I just put together a grasshopper with yout front wishbones and rear hornet conversion kit a couple of days ago, i wanted to do the previous trailing arm upgrade but didnt because, as you note in the vid, it is quite expensive. Looking forward to being able to start printing this version and upgrading my Grasshopper, going to order the parts needed so they will hopefully already be here when you release the files :)

    Wow! Super cool!! I wish I had the patience for learning and working with CAD design I have done a few very simple things and have tried other more complex items and I get so frustrated I end up tossing the idea! Great job on the engineering and design! If it was in black it would look factory!!! Are you planning on selling the files? I would love to print one and try it out! Very good job!!!

    Hi! enormous thanks for interest in my work! The frustration that you encountered is exactly what I experienced in first few months, almost the whole year after I started 3d printing...all was headache and waste of print filaments....but I am sure your efforts will pay-off soon! I am now really a great supporter of 3d printing, take your time and be patient you will catch up soon! I don't sell my design files, I will upload it in thingiverse, just that I am right now too busy, I should be able to upload the files maybe this upcoming weekend^^

    so cool. Did you redesign everything in cad? Also, why not use brass inserts instead of screwing directly into pla?

  • @HumbleVintageRC

    @HumbleVintageRC

    2 жыл бұрын

    thank you! my latest design update uses bolt and nuts for joining gearbox. Yes screwing into pla directly is not so good in terms of durability and maintenance. New design reflected that. Thank you for your comment!

    I really like this design, but I have a question after watching the video. How is the differential supported between the outdrives? I didn't see the pin that normally goes through the center of the differential and between the original axles.

  • @HumbleVintageRC

    @HumbleVintageRC

    Жыл бұрын

    hi! thank you for visiting my channel!!! this design uses the same pin as stock hopper gearbox. I designed the diff gears with the hole for the pin^^ maybe that isnt clearly shown in the video? thanks for your feedback

    I want to try this rear suspension, but I am sure producing the custom diff gear will be my stumbling block. Any suggestions on an economical way to metal print (or have printed) the diff gear?

  • @HumbleVintageRC

    @HumbleVintageRC

    Жыл бұрын

    hi! thank you for your interest in my mods. first, metal printing is pretty expensive as you addressed. my spent for metal printing was about 50 usd per set (2). you can choose to cut the stock axle and attach appropriate drive hub (such as kyosho optima’s). I used this method before I entered 3d printing era. I suggest to print the diff gear in petg or pla+ this will endure more than 5pack runs with stock 540 motor run. If you want to run more you can simply replace the diff gear. Sorry for my limit in this design.

    Hi there, this us really amazing work. I am trying to do this with my son's grasshopper and we are almost done, but have run into an issue. I purchased (I think) the exact same dog bone set as you. However the shaft of the axle isn't long enough to go all the way through the grasshopper wheels. It is only 12mm from the end of the threads to the pin hole, where standard grasshopper axles are 24mm. Did I just buy the wrong set or did you do something special to attach your wheels? Hope I didn't buy the wrong thing 😢

  • @HumbleVintageRC

    @HumbleVintageRC

    6 ай бұрын

    thank you so much for your feedback. I think you bought the right axle just that you need to print the wheel. those wheels are part of the work. or you can use optional extension hex adaptors to use normal hex adaptor wheels. this limit is the reason I am working on next version of this trailing arm kit with new design and parts. though that older design works well kif you can print the wheels. sorry for the confusion^^;;;
