Taming A Wild Crow
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
In this video I want to show you how it all began. These clips are from 2019. Kräri was still really shy, I could not look at him and he kept jumping back and forth. But he never gave up. I waited while he slowly started to overcome his fear and sometimes took food out of my hand.
I hope you enjoy it!

Such a beautiful moment when this sweet bird eats from your hand.
I feed corvids, especially jackdaws and hooded crows, every winter. Not that they need it but for me it is the best way to study wild corvids, or free corvids as I prefer to say. I have studied seabirds earlier, especially gulls. Was working as a research assistent in seabird projects but have never experienced the same connection as you can get with corvids. As everyone knows who know their corvids, patience is the key. But if we invest time and have the right respect and behaviour, the reward is high and mighty. I really like this channel. Thank you.

Corvids are an amazing species and are my favorites. We mostly have American black crows here . I think I've seen a raven on occasion. I wanna observe magpies
your hooded crows are magnificent. Our native flock is solid black. I've counted 27 in all. I've known the Patriarch and Matriarch for almost 8 years now. We give them dry roasted peanuts and various fresh treats throughout the year. The patriarch is very curious about me, but his mate is more cautious. He's always watching whenever she's around. They've brought me colorful rocks, tiny pine cones, and green cherries from our neighbors' trees. He's become more bold this year and I hope he'll come close enough for contact soon. I've learned their call to announce dinner time and use a crow call to make the announcement myself. Only takes minutes before the trees are filled with crows ready to take their turn coming down for the bounty. They're quite fascinating.
I have just been feeding the hooded crows at my window here in Berlin, and they are already coming to my window to say hello. They get the food even with the window wide open and with my in sight :) Also they are quite different, how brave they are. The bravest one is actually quite young and smaller than the others. I guess if he stays that brave, he will have enough food for a growth spurt.

They all have different personalities. I love brazen adolescents!
Great video! I became friends with a crow and his girl at my work. He's so loyal and always comes to me when I call him in the morning for peanuts. Unfortunately he still is really shy but is warming up to me. Sometimes they all come and he says over to me and takes the peanuts while the rest just watch. Pretty cool. I befriended the raccoons, the feral barn cats, and the wild geese that come around. My goose let's me pet him sometimes, it's pretty cool 😂. Now I befriended the crows. They are like the kings of all the friendly birds that hang in out parking lot. One day a red tail hawk tried to grab him while I was feeding him and luckily he dodged it. Immediately all of the birds started to dive bomb the hawk and chase him off with my pair of crows on him like glue. The crows are special indeed! Thanks for making this video!❤

My crows would aggressively call to me when their eggs hatched. I got to the point standing near them and leaving hand out. But the kids grew up and they left for the summer. They are slowly coming back so i leave out food again.

I would be amazed . I wanna build a little food place and house to stash away up off the ground away from the cats and dog
UPDATE: I have officially made visual contact! And eye contact. My new feathery friend now knows my face :) I think I can start setting up a camera now :) I just started the training process with a couple of the local crows. I left some peanuts out for a couple of days but no contact. A week later I placed new peanuts on the same place and about 2 days after that, I noticed they cracked them open but did not eat the peanut meat. Is that the crow attempting to trust me? P.s I would love to see a different angle of the camera to record you recording the crow! :) for perspective
Such a lovely bond, such a delight to see. Greetings cheers and blessings from Manchester England 🌼 🤗
So awesome. I have crows around my house for many many years and finally have taken an interest in them
Love this, I have a crow that follows me round the park where I feed the squirrels, always stays around 15 ft from me, I gave him some cherry's and monkey nuts the other day, I always look forward to seeing him, keep up the great work 😊
Love your video. I just began befriending a family of American crows and I am documenting it as a series on my channel. I love your passion, and the hooded crows are stunningly beautiful.
Assuming a parallel universe in which huge super-intelligent dinosaurs are feeding people, I wonder if I could overcome my fear. I think it depends on the personality and that Kräri is special in some way. Falltraumprofi has made nice videos about different crow personalities. Only the bravest are taking food from his hand.
Such patience! It encourages me to keep going. My crow pair and their kid come every day and watch me. I feed them from my window, but only when they think I'm not there do they come to the window ledge to feed for themselves. Hand feeding seems a long way away.

I am trying to train my neighborhood American crows and at about 5:00 pm they all started to squawk loudly to each other then they all flew to another persons backyard(there is about 12 crows I counted when I was watching them
Son unas aves increíbles... Muy buen video, enhorabuena por tu trabajo!!! 👏👏👏
i provide a bigger water bowl, so that birds can drink and bath,,, (they do that daily) also, my terrace has 20-30 birds (sparrow, crow, pigeon, sunbird),,, and birds are less afraid of me, when they are in numbers,,, they are inseure when alone,,,

Krari is so beautiful! Corvines are all gorgeous, but crows are especially pretty. Seeing them trying to think up a solution to a problem is always so great. I noticed that a lot of the food are raw in-shell peanuts. Is this a favorite of his?

I gav them a lot of peanuts in the beginning because I didn't really know what to feed them ;-). Now I know more. Krari always takes the peanuts although peanuts are not his favourite. They are very useful in winter because he can store them easily.
Often the crows bring presents. They are smart birds 🤩In the last clip he looked more relaxed.

Maybe you said it in the video and i didnt catch it, or its in the comments and i cant find it, but how long did it take from the start, to getting him to eat out of your hand?
Love the vid
My only problem is I have a group of Jays who will quickly scarf every bit of crow food so I often have to hear or see the crows and only then put out the food. Also I thought a platform feeder would do but the crows much prefer feeding on the ground. Maybe that will change.
Thanks for your video! I'm going to buy some nuts today and put up a feeding schedule te me and the crow to see if I can befriend him/her. :) The crow has visited my balcony for a long time so I have a good feeling about the curious fellow, he's/she's so shy though. @@KrariTheCrow I have started communicating with a couple who sit up high in a horse chestnut tree across the road. Sometimes, after feeding them, I've played some gentle classical music to them such as Vaughn Williams' The Lark Ascending - they seemed enraptured by it. The first time I played it, three magpies came for a listen.
Hey! Do you have experience befriending magpies too? I have a much harder time with them, as I cannot even throw foot to them from far away, because the flee so quickly, when crows would get the nut.

I have not befriended a magpie but I would certainly like to 😊. They are very intelligent. I would not throw food in their direction, I found that many wild birds get scared of that. I would put it down where they can see it. Maybe develope a routine, same time, same place.avoiding all fast movements.

My ex said, crows belong to the devil. He's superstitious. If anyone belongs to the devil, he does.
I find their eyes interesting. Gateways to the soul and all though, right? But when it comes to corvids, its even more so. For examplez their eyelids are white so when they blink, it looks like theyre actually opening their eyes instead of blinking. It reminds me of a thing cats do to express themselves with people; their classic slow blink. It makes me wonder if corvids have a similar metamesaaging style. Got a bit off topic though. I find it hilarious how even when they accept food from your hand, they still fix at least one eye on you which could be a sign of great distrust at an instinctual level, OR perhaps its more akin to a toddlers level of object permanence in that if they lose sight of you, it sends them into a little birdy panic. Just interesting things to note.

So why is your video titled " taming a wild crow"? Also crows are intelligent enough to decide what they will or won't eat, plenty of times I've left food for them that they don't want & just ignore, but you act like I force feed them. Sick of your hypocrisy.
