Everyone should listen to the audible book As You Wish Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride. Hearing the many actors speak about their interactions with Andre is a wonderful experience. Everyone loved the man.

Why the disrespect?

Total Recall is one of the most under-rated films ever. People don't really understand how deep and complex the story of that is in terms of whether it was even real at all or just a simulation in Arnold's mind. Truly a sci-fi masterpiece.

Arnold is 188 cm, which would be precisely 6 feet and 2 inches. I think Arnold was pretty correct in comparing himself to Wilt and Andre, being 216 and 224 cm tall respectively, with the proportions between himself and Danny DeVito, who's 144 cm tall. Basically it's 40 cm, give or take, between Wilt/Andre, and down to Arnold, and then another 40 cm down to Danny DeVito. Those photos of Arnold together with Wilt and Andre are just amazing.

@@peterhendricksen6946 Arnold was measured at 6ft2 at the 1971 olympia on footage and there's cleary a bunch of pics of him standing next to a bunch of people with verified heights.... so not sure where you got 6ft1 from?

It's Predator for me. Rock solid action movie that inverts most of the 80s action hero tropes. The jungle setting, all the other guys who could go toe to toe with Arnold, how the Predator towered over everyone else, and the one liners. Great movie!

my father, brother and i saw him wrestle when i was a kid.. we got to meet him for an autograph.. he smiled, told my dad to pick me up, then picked us both up and sat my brother on his other arm for a picture.. he signed my shirt gave me a high five and told me to follow my dreams.. RIP BIG MAN, YOU ARE CERTAINLY MISSED.. class act all the way

I love hearing stories about Andre. The man sounds like such a wonderful human being who simply wanted to live his life and be accepted by those around him.

In an interview Andre said that was why loved working on The Princess Bride. Yes, he was still larger than anyone round him but, being actors, they simply accepted him for who he was and went about doing their job. There was likely an initial reaction from everyone, how could there not be, but he wasn't faced with all the bru-hah-hah that must come with being his size all day, every day. To have been treated like everyone else for that time makes it easy to understand why he would have enjoyed it so very much.

I listened to a lex luger story about him traveling through the airport and he had a similar experience with Andre. Andre just picked him up and sat him in the cart next to him like he was nothing. Lex said he weighed like 285 or something like that.

Gorilla Monsoon said Andre could lift 250 lb guys like a normal man picking up a trench coat. It’s believable…his size and weight, he’s going to have strength, plus continuous natural HGH. His hands and wrists were the size of gorilla.

Was expecting Arnold to tell a legendary Andre drinking story which there are many but put a big smile on my face hearing this one!! RIP Andre ♥️

I still remember Andre the Giant in Princess Bride. His character was just so sweet and child like. The antithesis of this literal giant of a man who could literally tear a man apart ❤😂

Fun fact - at the end of Conan the destroyer where conan fights the Dagoth , Andre is inside the dagoth costume

Running man was fantastic! Had Jesse Ventura in it too and he returned in Predator. Great movies. Commando was fantastic too.

I'm always fascinated by Andre the Giant stories. He was such a unique human being.

I read the remake of The Running Man won't really be a remake. The intent is to make a film which actually follows the book. I absolutely love both the Arnold film and the Stephen King / Richard Bachman book, but they are almost nothing alike.

@@DoomzdayxxTrue Lies was good. But for some reason The 6th day was his last good one for me. There was that acceptance of him getting run down physically which was reflected in the movie. It wasn’t Predator or Conan Arnold anymore. I found it a poignant reflection of his past heights. And yeah , the movie plot itself wasn’t anything to write home about though , but then again most of his movies weren’t about the plot😂

Most of the stories, dare I say all, I hear him tell about himself, is how he is being worked over or put into place by someone else. Both him and Sly are giant action stars but in most of their stories, someone is getting the best of them.

He has a bunch of animals at his home. He loves feeding them these special animal type cookies in the morning. It is hilarious how he world famous mega-star, former governor of the state of California gets mobbed by animals and he hands out a dozen cookies.

He definitely seems like he's stayed down-to-earth. Every time somebody mentions his success on camera, he points out how he wouldn't have gotten anywhere without the support of all kinds of people in his life. I also like how the fitness advice he gives is not about getting huge muscles but about keeping going and doing what you can, regardless of how much that is.

There is no reason he should have been the governor of California, like Bill Burr said, he can't even pronounce the name of the state right, but he is the most charismatic, engaging, personable people out there and I don't know how he does it but he can turn on the charm like Niagra falls. He just seems to be a good human being, and despite his faults and indiscretions, he will step right up to the plate and own everything, and I just think that type of honesty and transparency is attractive in the era of 'scorched earth lying' we have become so accustomed to.

Arnold was very James Bond like in True Lies. Arnold had great charisma on screen

Heck yeah guys! And thank you for the backup! And how is it that no one in the video itself mentioned it!? Sure The Running Man is a fun, weird atypical action/sci-fi movie, but what does it really have on Total Recall? That movie finessed every inch of its celluloid existence! And Paul Verhoven as much as I also really love Robocop never made an action film better than Total Recall. I'm sure for some that's a hot button topic, but think about how much more consistently paced Total Recall is and how much more firepower and velocity it gains and throws at your every sense. The thunderous rarely still music score from Jerry Goldsmith certainly gave an already massive weighted film an even bigger boost into cinema history. So yeah for Robocop to take second place to Total Recall is hardly an insult in my book. It's still also a great and timeless film! Partly what holds it back competing with Total Recall is that it's got a lot of dramatic weight holding it back and slowing it down due to the tragedy of the main character and his family being stripped away from. I hardly hold that against the movie. It was definitely the right choice for the film, but that means that much more of the time that could be spent on action is taken up by that. Honestly one more fun action scene (even if it was short one) showing off his abilities would've been nice. But then again it could've worked against it. It's hard to say for sure without seeing such a scene and within the context of the film itself as far as pacing and other things are concerned. Anyway I should go and watch them both again. I've been on an 80s kick lately.

I was in my early teens, saw Total Recall in the theater for back to back showings! It was great!

This was very pleasant. Once Arnold was let loose to tell a story you could feel his charisma begin to flow.

Charisma is something you rarely see in Hollywood actors these days.

Even when Andre played the “Bad guy”, he was Absolutely my favorite. There was Absolutely Nobody that could beat him unless he Wanted to lose. Sadly his life was too short unlike his Stature. He’ll never be forgotten.

It's been said by a quite a few people in the wrestling business that Andre was only scared of 2 people, Harley Race and Haku (Meng, King Tonga), who are both considered to be two of the toughest legit wrestlers in the business. The 3 of them were also very good friends.

Apparently, he messed with Hulk Hogan's head leading into Wrestlemania III. Hulk was concerned whether Andre would "do the job," because even with as bad a shape as Andre was in, there was no way Hulk could beat him legitimately.

One of Arnold's best stories was when James Cameron chewed the SHEET out of him on the set of "True Lies". Tom Arnold asked him how he put up with it; "why didn't you yell back?" "Because, Tom... he's 100% right. I was late. I messed up. I disrespected more than just him by being late, I put the entire cast & crew behind schedule. It's my fault." Must give us pause.

And over the past century... they kinda get "free credit" for those lines. Directors and writers usually do not. Believe me, as someone who's done all three (no joke)... I know. :/

I like this Arnold story, but listen to Ken Patera tell the drinking story in Vegas. It’s a good one.

I consider myself very lucky to have been a kid when André was at his mysterious and fantastic peak. It was a treat every time he appeared on the local rasslin' scene. I was enthralled each second he was on the screen.

I love his Hit Holiday Movie "Jingle All the Way"

Rich has great taste. The Running Man has a certain atmosphere that other Arnold movies dont. Out of all the Arnold movies I probably watch that one the most. Jesse Ventura is funny as hell. Richard Dawson is absolutely perfect as Killian. The soundtrack was great. Paula Abdul choreographed the dance scenes. Even Mick Fleetwood and Dweezil Zappa are in the movie! 🔥

It's definitely the Arnold film I re-watch the most ... well, that and the first Conan. Loved how Jesse Ventura inserted a bit of his WWF persona. 😄 Since Mick Fleetwood mentions his music being banned, I cannot help but wonder if he's playing himself. And Paula Abdul was twenty-four or twenty-five when she choreographed those dance scenes. Heck, Dweezil Zappa was only seventeen. "Don't touch that dial!"

I wouldn't put Commando over nearly flawless Total Recall, but it is a lot of fun. They've both got a lot rewatch ability to them. Ironically those are about the only two top shelf Arnie films that none of them mentioned in the video. I think that Red Heat is kinda an underrated gem. Too bad it never pops up on streaming services, I may have to just buy a copy of it.

That is the best André, the giant story I have ever heard!

i waited on arnold's table in 2010 when he was the guvernator. i stood next to him and i don't think he was any taller than 5' 10, but he had a big, barrel chest and his arm bones ( radius and ulna ) were bigger than i had ever seen on anyone. having that big bone structure is what enabled him to build the massive musculature. his chief of staff was a bltch and no one was allowed to talk to him, so if i was going to have any fun with him, i had to get sneaky. when he asked me for something, i responded in german that i'd be back. i know -- very corny, but what're ya gonna do ?

I saw him at the Arnold Classic in 2000, which would have made him fifty-three, and I would have pegged him at around 5'10", maybe 5'11" (I'm 5'8", and he didn't exactly tower over me). Sure, we do lose some with age, though I wonder if he really was 6'2" when they filmed Pumping Iron in 1975. Seeing him side-by-side with Lou Ferrigno, I find it hard to believe Arnold was only three inches shorter, as Lou was billed as 6'5".

Heck yeah on Total Recall! Thanks for the backup : ) Yeah I was a bit bummed he or none of the others mentioned it. I think it was only top shelf film of his they didn't mention. For me it all comes together so perfectly in that film (writing, directing, editing, acting and music) and that it rolls at least elements of nearly every movie genre into one so flawlessly. I mean on that merit alone you could rank it as one of his best. But throw in that it's still an invigorating blast to rewatch all these years later just as it was when I saw it in theaters--That's a gift of a film! So few do that for me.

I actually thought the first photo showing the three men had been altered, but seeing the second one changed my mind. Imagine being able to pick up a heavyweight bodybuilder as if he were a child. I can barely pick up my wife.

I appreciate Rich mentioned The Running Man, it's one of my favourites to this day.

I read "The Running Man" when it was published as part of Stephen King's "The Bachman Books". I think I read the story before the movie came out.

Imagine if the guy who drop kicked Arnold tried to do the same to Andre or Wilt. They probably wouldn't have even noticed.

Kindergarten Cop and Twins are my favorite because they showed an action star could be funny and I feel like Arnold grew as an actor by leaps and bounds after making those movies. I pretty much like ALL his movies though.

Classic story,Wilt and Jim Brown you could argue were the two greatest athletes who ever lived.

Terminator 2 and Total Recall are my favorite Arnold movies.

Conan the Barbarian was my favorite,yes terminator so many more but Conan was just awesome because it was definitely made for you to be like the muscle bound character

I have two favorite Arnold movies: True Lies and The Running Man. Commando, however, was amazing too. Seeing him in "Commando", I wish Arnold of that time would "lift me up and put me on a shelf" too. 😇😇😋

Those are all great and how about Total Recall? That film is nearly flawless and it just about pure action the whole way thru, perfect pacing.

Whenever I buy Toma cheese I can't resist saying in Arnold's voice "it's not a Toma"

True Lies is a classic! Great, Hilarious Movie...

Commando! Let off some steam Bennett! That was his best film, so much fun in some of those scenes!

I love Arnold. Growing up in the 80s and 90s, you couldn't imagine an Arnold movie coming out and not watching it. He had a couple duds, and so so many hits. Watching Arnold now givess the best kind of nostalgia

The "Andre" stories from PB cast & crew members are outstanding. And ya know what? In the "Final Fight" video games, the characters named "Andore" are obviously a huge nod to this behemoth of a soul. TRULY, legitimately the absolute epitome and definition of The Gentle Giant. 🙂 The world is less without his physical presence, but his memory lives on.

Hey that makes sense! And I'm glad you mentioned it as I just played that in a arcade recently. I hadn't played it in years, especially not in a arcade. And dang that game was hard! I'm glad I had unlimited continues, clearly it was a quarter muncher back in the day ; )

That Andre anecdote is the funniest thing ever.

I remember seeing Conan the Destroyer at the Bel Air Drive-in on Cicero in Chicago. Good times.

So many awesome movies, thanks Arnold!

If I had to pick between Conan and any of the new Marvel movies I'd pick Conan . Even though Id agree with Oliver Stone that Conan could've and should've gotten a bigger budget to keep closer to the comic , John Milius did a great job .

I agree with your first sentence for sure, but not so sure about the rest. It's hard to say without having such an alternative version to watch. I gotta say if given the chance and only one version could exist, it'd be pretty damn hard to consider sacrificing the version we have. What if it had ended up like the way weaker sequel? I mean it's ok to watch once in a while, but it's got nothing on the original. They really needed John Milius again and better script of course. Grace Jones was probably the best thing about that sequel. Malick was a pretty great sidekick though too.

I met Andre at a match early in the 80's when I was at Bragg. He was so nice taking a picture with me but there is no describing how big he was. Like a bridge or mountain. I'm average size and I came up to his ribs. Glad he was very friendly with everyone. He loved people especially kids. He would hoist them onto his shoulder and laugh, they would scream with delete. Loved kids

The giant snake in Conan the Barbarian and also the scene where a snake is used by James Earl Jones as an arrow; These images are forever etched in my memory and I saw the film 40 years ago.

Damn!!! Andre the Giant is flippin' HUGE but compare him Wilt Chamberlain!!! THEY ARE IN SCALE!!! CRAZY!!!

Not talking Terminator…my faves of his are Total Recall, True Lies, The Running Man, Last Action Hero, and Eraser. Loved those movies. Glad to see the man still living well.

Picking a favorite movie of his would like asking "what's your favorite flavor?" just so many of them that are good, it really depends what you're in the mood for.

Talk about an action career, also comedy from '81-'94 i never got enough. The Running Man is my favorite as well Rich.

The heights and weights of WWE wrestlers are always ridiculously exaggerated, but seeing Andre there next to Wilt you can tell he's legitimately close to 7 feet tall.

Wilt maybe had an inch or so over Andre but look at them - Andre for sure 7 foot at that point, and definitively much more massive. Tall as a giant, built like a buff dwarf. Probably one of the strongest people ever, despite being known to never hit the gym.

They billed him as 7’4. he was more like 7’2 in boots in his prime. There’s an old black and white vid when he’s younger and said he’s 7’1.

as a kid i got to meet Andre after a wrestling match and it was and still is one of the most amassing things to have ever happened for me

I can't even say which Arnold's movie is my favourite: Terminator, Predator, Running Man, Total Recall, True Lies, Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Eraser, Commando, Pumping Iron, Conan, Sixth Day, they were all so great! The 80s had a lot of great movies, but Arnold's movies make a huge chunk of that era, especially the second half.

Andre the Giant was a Giant to me, but I saw as a child. But what most people don't know or understand is, Andre was a "Farm Boy!" So he wasn't just strong because of his size. His parents owned a farm, Andre the Giant was a "Country Farm Boy!" So he's naturally gonna be strong asf! Juuust sayin....🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Great segment! The Andre story is new to me. Crazy.

Some of the movies were simply made way ahead of their time and Arnold himself was just perfect. I would watch Total Recall even today with great pleasure.

How in the world are you going to remake a Schwarzenegger film and expect it to succeed? The phrase big shoes to fill comes to mind.

Raw Deal is the most underrated Schwarzenegger ever!

Hmm, I was thinking about this one, but can't say much as it's been too long since I've seen it. Another fairly obscure and underrated one I think I like better is Red Heat (1988). But perhaps both are due for rediscovery : ) My top pick of his is easily Total Recall, though there are several that are trailing behind by seemingly fractions of a second to be his best film. My other top picks: Conan The Barbarian Predator ''was ok'' (haha, some guy in another comment said that. That's the first I've ever heard it anyone rate it as ''ok''. He must've seen the Fisher Price censored edition!) True Lies Terminator 1 & 2 Commando
