They are vicious reactionaries with plump bank accounts and they make most of their money through financial speculation. Not much in common with ordinary British people. The Tories had already lost the 1997 election after Black Wednesday in September 1992, or at the latest the March 1993 budget when they put VAT on fuel. Labour had 20 point leads in the poll before John Smith died. The Tories openly feuding with each other over Europe which was a completely irrelevant issue to the public at the time (it only really became important after Cameron became PM), also made them look ridiculous.

Since Brexit I have often said to people the government should make the UK a very low tax country to attract more and more international business more of the international wealthy aswell as encouraging British owned business to relocate back to the UK and making it easy for self employed and sole traders to operate . There must be dozens of ways to bring in huge tax revenues and this then would allow the gov to rreally cut taxes for individuals .

Nigel’s 100% right Conservatives are just slightly better labour and Lib Dem’s. The only good thing is more funding for the military and building more ships. But attempting to cut troops is stupid, we need conscription for prisoners, homeless. Reform UK is the party for people.

Well done Sir John! Very enjoyable iinterview to watch. As usual he spoke a lot of sense. So much experience over the years in government. Always enjoy his blog. Loyal to Boris. Tremendously loyal to this country. I think Nigel Farage skill in interviewing came through and enabled Sir John to give his views, reminisce over being a Eurosceptic and what he would like Boris and his team to do eg. Low taxes

„If the Conservative Party were your refrigerator, all your food would go bad. If it were your car or bicycle, you would be stranded by the side of the road. If it were your accountant, you would be bankrupt. If it were your lawyer, you would be in prison. If any consumer good, service or profession so consistently and predictably disappointed or failed in its ostensible main purpose, people would turn their backs on it. It would be overtaken, replaced and driven out of business by a better competitor.“ - Peter Hitchens
