He certainly did his duty but sadly for the military they are giving there lives for the british government not for queen and country especially as parliament stripped the queen of her powers many years ago. I would never give my life for the british establishment but would do had it been for Queen and England but never for the british.

Unlike in the past, up until say the 90s, a lot of ppl involved in politics had served and some heroes. Lord Carrington for instance (he resigned, as foreign minister or defence, when the Falklands were invaded). He was in the 1st tanks to cross Nijmegan bridge in Holland in operation market garden and everyone was expecting the Germans were going to blow it as they crossed. Nowadays we get corbyn and johnson lol

He is a proud welshman and pure British Bulldog. I am amazed at his service and above all, his devotion to his regiment and country. I would love to have 10 minutes to chat to him over a pint! Why hasn’t this wonderfully brave man not been given a Knighthood? When you think of all the lovie tossers who have been given one, is it because he is heroic, decent, and who gives so much of his time to charity? Attributes that are scorned by the Wokes.

I was working in the Royal Lancaster hotel in London when Falklands kicked off. Many of the workers were South Americans including many Argentinians. When the ships went off to the Falklands, the same people stood up in the massive canteen and shouted praise for the British troops and clapped for them. It was very emotional. You are not forgotten, Simon.

They don't make people like Simon anymore.......... What a truly amazing gentleman. I remember the Falklands war , watching nightly for the news reports on how it was progressing. I had a Map on my bedroom wall and marked our progress. To see our ships bombed and on fire, rowing boats with wounded men on board making for land has never left me. As the son of a Royal Naval Fleet Air Arm Armourer who served his country for 12yrs I am proud as hell of our Armed forces.

The word bravery, courage and fortitude are bandied about quite liberally in todays society, unfortunately these words have been somewhat cheapened insofar as they are applied to sometimes quite frivolous actions especially within sport. Simon Weston and others like him go about their business quietly, they ask not for pity nor celebrity. Simon through no fault of his own was gravely wounded during the Falklands war back in 1982, in fact he was almost burnt alive! Plenty did not return, others did with injuries to the body and also to the mind. PTSD was still in it's infancy back then. The point I'm making is that these people show us what true courage is, they do not complain but given the chance they 'crack on' and live their lives to the full. All of us can learn a powerful lesson from the likes of Simon Weston and all of the others who have suffered through the defence of their country and those that protect us in peacetime be it a civilian organisation or military! He deserves his praise and I for one wish him and his family a wonderful and happy life! Cheer's Westy!
