I was already laughing before he did actually, I have heard plenty of this type of speech because of having played through the "龍が如く"/"Like A Dragon" games. So much to the point that it's pretty easy to for me recognize this type of slang even though my Japanese is not good at all. I absolutely loved the video, thanks!

Well, that's why I don't study under him anymore, after a few years I got tired of his bullshit. So to be precise, I couldn't decide if Kaname-sensei's expressions and mannerisms in this video being a caricature of those of my ex-master's were more amusing or PTSD-inducing 😅

This what imagine my favorite Japanese punk bands probably sound like. I love your literal translations too! Based on what you said, I think colloquially ざけんじゃねえぞ could probably be translated as "don't fuck with me" in English, and なめてんのか as "what are you looking at?" I wonder how many manga I've read in translation that use these phrases...?

I didn't see the video length at first and was all excited this might be an in-depth video about the general shifts in language that occur in delinquent/criminal dialects, haha. I got to enjoy some good laughs, though, so I'll take it! :) I'm about eight months deep into studying Japanese, and recently I've been looking for content outside of graded readers and children's programs on NHK-E (I'll be honest, mostly ピタゴラスイッチ), which have been my primary "immersion" sources until recently. I've been reading through the first book in the ドラえもん manga series and started playing my first-ever Yakuza (龍が如く in Japan) series game. The kid-speak and ruffian-speak is absolutely destroying what little comprehension ability I had. But it's given me a lot of excellent opportunities to get familiarized with the imperative form of verbs and language shortcuts (such as skipping or morphing the pronunciation of mora for easier speech). I can't wait to make a million friends with my delinquent kindergartener speech patterns.
