I had brought back some samples from the Talisker distillery as I have from the other distilleries that I toured while in Scotland. A couple of the samples I was not familiar with like the 'Wilder Seas' and the cask strength 'Distillery Exclusive'. The one I really wanted to sample over there was the 'Eighteen' but I some how managed to wait until l got back here. I got a couple samples of the NEW 'Eighteen' and wanted to put them up against an OLD Talisker 18 that I had just opened for the first time at the beginning of May. That was just before I left for the UK.
So we are going to have a duel between the OLD version of the 'Eighteen' and the NEW version. This was done so that while I was comparing them I did not know which glass contained which whisky until the end when I looked under the glass at the hidden marked micro-tag.
You bet this was fun. But what was not fun was looking at the price of the new 'Eighteen' at the distillery which was 215 pounds or $372.62 in Canadian dollars. And that was in Scotland. I'm not sure what it would be over here but I would venture to say that it is probably getting close to the $400 mark. I was smart enough to buy a couple bottles 6 years ago and still have a full one.
Well has it changed? Let's check out the video and see which whisky, the OLD or the NEW, works best for my palate. Enjoy the video. Slàinte Mhath

    I have Tali-10 stocks from 1991, 2001 and 2011 . . . then stop buying . . . quality worsens with each passing decade, sadly . . . and the Tali18 lost alot of m=smoke, 18 is best with batch 1 and 2 then things go downhill : less oily, less smoke, less tar-ry, less concentrated, . . .
