Thanks for the review noel I have been thinking about getting one or two of these expressions for a while but held off too long and the prices went up but then a week and a half ago I went online and saw them (dewars 27)for $67 Canadian so I bought two thinking that it was a mistake and they may not honour the price but they did. and I do think it was a mistake because three days later the price was 137. I’m looking forward to opening one of those.

Visited the distillery in June. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon at 1 pm so we didn't have to worry about lineups, and surprisingly there was a shelf full of the 12 year old cask strength Springbank, the new Longrow Red 7 year old Pinot Noir, and an open day Hazelburn bottling. The cage bottles were heavily picked over and no regular 10 or 15 year old Springbanks. Not sure if we just got lucky, but I can't imagine having to wait in a lineup for over 2 hours and potentially not even get what you were hoping to grab. Glad to hear you got some good ones though!

    I have Tali-10 stocks from 1991, 2001 and 2011 . . . then stop buying . . . quality worsens with each passing decade, sadly . . . and the Tali18 lost alot of m=smoke, 18 is best with batch 1 and 2 then things go downhill : less oily, less smoke, less tar-ry, less concentrated, . . .

Hi Pierre and thanks for watching the video. This distillery is producing some good whisky including the Ripple Rock. It has one several international awards and is the first distillery I believe in North America to be recognized by the SMWS but not a lot of people know about it. If you get a chance the Evans Reserve is also a goody (Sherry Cask). I will be flying off to Scotland in the morning so I wish you well. Slàinte Mhath

I think they've got a player with this one. It's a tough business for these new distilleries to wait for ten years because they still have to deal with their overhead and payroll. Unless they have a Gin still it's going to be non age statements. Now that they have the ten they will have to follow up with a twelve. Shelter Point distillery here on Vancouver Island just came out with their first twelve and I just finished a review on it. Slàinte Mhath

You've provided good information here. So far, I've only tried the standard GlenAllachie 12 and a Spec's (Texas) retailer exclusive 12yo single cask bottled at full strength. IMHO the standard 12 was fine but not really exceptional, whereas the the cask strength 12 was very good, showing evidence that they used a quality cask to mature the spirit. However, with both examples I couldn't really find a distinctive flavor or aroma note from the distillate itself, making the overall taste just a bit generic. I hope to try their standard 15yo soon to see what a little more age does for this whisky.

  • @noelsworldofwhisky8208

Thanks for the response. I have not drank a lot Japanese whisky because it was already highly priced with very few age statements when I was getting into it. I became a little biased because I could buy an affordable better quality Scotch for less. I did the math and I am on a Whisky budget. I do have some Nikkas because they haven't gone through the roof yet and a few Yamazaki and Hibiki whiskies. I have a couple 12 year olds of what some reviewers call the "Phantom Kurayochi Distillery" whiskies. Aside from being accused as being fake Japanese whiskies, they are non chill filtered and natural color and not that bad but what Scottish distillery did they come from? Slàinte Mhaith.

Hi James, I keep the 12 and 15 Red Breast on the shelf, always a favorite. I like my Tyrconnell 15 Madeira and 16 Oloroso-Moscotel cask from Cooley Distillery as well but I don't know if you can get it anymore. My son was going to buy me the 21 Red Breast as a gift (very expensive) so I told him I would prefer him to buy me the rare Irishman 17 cask strength single malt, still affordable (by Bernard and Rosemary Walsh of Walsh Whiskey). I believe it is from Bushmills. I have read some great reviews on it. I am waiting for a special occasion because it still has the lid on it. Tempting. The Irish are going through a Renaissance in whiskey making and you are seeing some amazing whiskies coming from so many new Irish distilleries. Slàinte Mhath

So If I can only get the one for now, what would you grab?

Thanks for the interest and the reply. Both the Single Malt 46% and the CS are excellent choices. I also have the Ten and the Twelve that have that Shelter Point signature taste. These are whiskies matured in Jack Daniels Bourbon Barrels and because of the quality of the barley used (grown next door to the distillery) they have a sweet malty barley sugar taste to their whiskies. They don't need to be finished in Sherry. Slàinte Mhath
