    Just bought a 2008 997.1 tiptronic turbo in a Gt Silver Cab with 38k on the clock. Coming from a 2016 F80 M3. Was undecided on the G80 due to the front grill and added size so I made the switch. The 997.1 doesn't have the current tech the F80 does but if tech is not much of a priority as performance, the switch is seamless. The 997.1 is just as fast and has more stability with a tiptronic and awd than my F80 DCT (Dct jerkiness in normal everyday driving) did. Currently have a Fabspeed exhaust but the tubi may be a road I visit. You also get the 911 culture and design which is second to none IMO. The 997.1 turbo has been a dream come true and value continues to climb.

    Pending on what you want from the exhaust you should check out Freddy Lewis at Lewis Speed. Less than $1500 for a SS 3" catless xpipe with resonators and helmholtz tubes. No drone and it screams at WOT

    had 996tt manual, WISH i jumped from 996tt to 997tt manual when they were in high 60 range price. its so much more fined from 996. I had marski tune and exhaust, + B&M Filter , car screamed and never had any issues for over 5 years! bought it with 38k miles sold it with 63k miles.

    Someone asked about tech, I have one of the only 2008 997.1 cab turbo w/997.2 stock touch screen pcm. I’ve always wanted a exhaust upgrade, not for power as much as sound.

    I’d be curious what this runs with the tiptronic. Not my taste but it’s the car is so clean and untouched. I remember going for a ride in the first one we sold at our Porsche dealership across from where I sold at BMW. I sold Porsche previously there less than a year before and moved with the new BMW dealership so I knew the customer who ordered this car. I remember at the time it being the fastest car I have ever been in. It’s still up there.

    Looks like blue smoke came out of that right tailpipe on start up. Is that a problem?

    Porsche engines are known to smoke on start up because oil sits in the lifters.

    Kept the stock headers/cats? I've read high flow cats get more power than an exhaust.

    Beautiful car! I am looking into getting a 997 turbo myself but manual… How are these older porsches in terms of build quality/fit and finish? Ik they don’t have the tech of the new cars, but do they still feel solid and well put together especially compared to the new ones?

    Excellent build quality, fit and finish besides the coolant line issue that needs addressed. 122k miles on my modified 997.1 turbo and it runs perfectly

    Oh and as for the tech options mine has auto dimming mirrors, rain sense wipers, 18 way adjustable heated seats, homelink, climate control, and I have a pioneer head unit with Bluetooth and backup camera now. Active suspension and aero as well. And someone makes a DRL kit if you want to add it.

    They are great cars but suffer from some well known issues. Drive them long enough and you will have the epoxy coolant failure, the spun camshaft on the driver's side, the failure of the rear spoiler, radiator leaks and noisy lifters. Thankfully they used niksail in the cylinders so you won't get the bore scoring plaguing many non turbo and non GT 997's. Great cars but it is a porsche so set aside money for repairs.

    You can still find the tiptronic models for a decent price. 6-speed and PDK 997’s are $$$$

    Have a 997 it's been a year and I really want to start modding it but I don't know where to start given I'm use to bmw and I don't want to mess anything up. Any recommendations on maintenance since it's at 58k miles and beginner mods that aren't going to break the bank that much?

    We, unfortunately, did not get 0-60 times. But stock times are around 5 seconds, so we can assure you we would be around 4-4.5!

    You said 600 BHP at the beginning, obviously with just an ECU remap you are nowhere nr that. The exhaust doesnt increase BHP either. I have a TechArt modified 996 turbo, which produces 560 BHP and 600 ftl bs of torque. For this you need different turbos, uprated Sachs 890mn clutch, and of course the remap. The manual is the only one to bother with...

    @@pye007 That means neat story. a 996 Turbo and 997 Turbo are 2 totally different animals. 997TT coming stock with 480BHP will get to 600bhp with just a flash and about 620 with an exhaust. Though the 996TT and 997TT use the same clutch, you do not HAVE to upgrade until its gone really. The one thing you do need to upgrade is spark plugs to a 1 step colder. I have been doing these since 2006 including big garrett turbo upgrades that I had on my 996TT back in 2006 before anyone was running external wastegates on these cars. So my reply is to say, yes I know what Im talking about.

    Well at the beginning of the review you are talking 600 BHP, so I though I'll watch and see what the rolling road says. Anyway, perhaps I'll uprate my spark plugs and see what difference that makes. As you must know a standard clutch wont allow you access the full potential of a car that has been modified. Up to 520 BHP its fine, but over that you need a Sachs 890NM or similar unit. So what spark plugs should I go for in my set-up? THANKS!

    @@vivid_racing 500hp car makes 3xx wheel? I’ve had 400hp cars make that much on a mustang dyno. That’s a 20% plus loss and Porsche usually underrates?

    That's how I felt. An exhaust is really all you need. Opens up the sound the responsiveness and keeps most of the reliability.

    You have to properly launch a tiptronic. The 997 turbos have the tip S transmission. While not called launch control, Porsche mentioned in their press releases regarding this car that you're supposed to brake boost to get the most out of launches. If you brake boost you will be shot out of canon and will be much faster than any manual. I have a 997.1 turbo with a Europipe exhaust (no tune as I never wanted to initially void my warranty, and later on, concern over wearing out the turbos and other parts faster) and trust me if you ever want to feel what it's like to drive a turbo tip, you need to brake boost launch it. I've also heard the after market air filters oil up and foul up the MAF sensors. Unfortunately there's no such thing as a free lunch, and if you do all these upgrades, you will go through plugs faster and wear our other parts faster. That's why Porsche doesn't do this from the factory as they're trying to make cars with minimal maintenance and issues (at least during the warranty period). But just know that going in and have money available for repairs and enjoy them. For me even 15 years later this car is still a beast with just an exhaust upgrade. Great video and these guys are well known in the Porsche tuning community.
