As a flight attendant + animal lover THANK YOU for being proactive & prepared!!!! I can’t count how many times I’ve seen people travel with their pets and have nothing for them and everyone including the pet is stressed out. You should do a longer what did we pack video showing items and prices. That sweater & carrier are amazing!

​@daniamar89 I think it depends. One place took my kitty to the cockpit. They then delivered him to me after we landed. Another airport they took us to a room where I took him out so they could scan the carrier. I was grateful for the room! I had been stressing about him getting loose. They then let us take him on the plane. Kitty didn't like it there but it's better than cargo hold. I'd never put a pet in cargo it's horrible. Always check with the airline! Make sure they don't put ur pet in cargo and ideally u are with them always.

I used to be a vet nurse, and I’d love nothing more than seeing 100% zen cats on gabapentin, it works so well on them. I had a really old cat called Graham who had a thyroidectomy and I brought him home from work after the op, as he was very old, he was sedated with diazepam and ketamine. He came home still tripping balls, just kept putting his face in his water fountain. I have a couple videos from that afternoon. He was a character. 😂

Gaba only made me feel the good feels the first two days on it. After that no more floaty giggles, just feel normal and slightly off balance. Sure still helps the nerve pain tho (reason I'm on it)

@@roxywyndham it took just over a month to work, I actually had to pair it with Carbamazepine until I really got pain relief. I still feel the pain, but I can handle it and at times forget about it. Instead of constant screaming

I doubt a pediatrician would prescribe drugs to knock out kids for a plane ride.

I had a female tortie that flew with me years ago and she absolutely loved it. She wasn’t afraid of anything which made her a fantastic traveler.

My cat slept on the plane. Until the bag started to roll around filled with panic. I opened it a crack and he came rushing out of it into my arms. He looked back behind me. He looked in front of me. He looked terrified. I put him back in his bag. He proceeded to pee in the bag. Poor kitty just wanted to know where the potty was. I’ve always heard cats know to hold it. My cat missed the memo. I miss that dude terribly.

When we brought multiple cats on a airplane at once we had one in a mesh carrier under the seat that was the smallest kitty and was within the right size to do so. The others ons had to go in a hard cat carriers in cargo. Although Would not recommend cargo hold as it gave I couple cats permeant hearing detention after. When we were boarding the airline had to take all the cats into another room where the airline checked them all and took them out of there carriers before they were allowed on the flight. Via we did start from a smaller local airport so we knew they would get on the plane and not get lost and took a direct flight to the new location.

This will always be my fear and the reason why I don't take my pets on airplanes. I'm worried that they won't be able to hold their poo and make the whole airplane stink.

And this is how you travel with a pet. Not by labeling it a fake "emotional support pet"; but by paying for the ticket and getting it a proper carrier for their safety and for everyone else.

Forgot to say - even if it is an emotional support animal, this is still how you should travel with it. To do otherwise is cruel to the animal. And also the other passengers, but I don't care about them as much as I do the animal. The animal didn't choose to be there, in a weird, cramped new environment, surrounded by strangers, with sudden pressure changes and turbulence. For the love of all the gods/djinns/nymphs and sprites ever dreamt of by man, travel responsibly with your pets!

Guide animals train for years- both in how to support their handler, as well as how to behave in public. Emotional support animals are pets.

I don’t sit there crying like a baby about the trauma and suffering I endured. I went to a doctor and did something about it. On top of that, I noticed how I highlighted safety in my comment. Safety isn’t a capitalist concept; is an empathy concept. You showed me you lack empathy by attacking and claiming pets should be allowed to walk around freely at an airport. Only REAL Services animals have the training to act calmly and properly. Emotional support animals are just pets with fancy titles. They don't need any training to get that title. Hence why they should be treated as pets not "services animals" Have you been to an airport before? Have you flown before? Sound like you never had. It’s not safe for a pet to be loose and can easily get hurt. On top of that, you do realize people have a fear of animals or allergies right? Why is it ok for one person to hold and put their animal at risk of injury for a flight; but their seat buddy has to suffer from allergies or trauma they have to suffer? I was attacked by a big dog as a small child, so I get nervous around big dogs who aren’t handled properly. Are you saying your problems are more important than everyone else? Sorry but you’re not the main character here. You need to get over yourself. Either follow the guidelines that were created to ensure EVERYONE's safety including pets or don’t fly at all. FYI Fligihng is a capitalist business, if you don't like following the rules then don't fly. The airports will be fine without your money. It’s not cool to force someone else to suffer at your expense. Flying is a privilege, not a right. Which you seem to have forgotten about that. Yes, they did very well. I'm curious, though ,how the flight crew deals with allergies. I know several people who have cat allergies. It would suck to be sneezing through your entire flight.

My cat was with 19 years micro chipped, got vaccinated and received her first passport for a flight within the euro zone a few months ago. She was the star around the airport and plane, no bother. I forgot actually to use the calming spray. I've trained her and made her used to the noises (we both live rather secluded, no visitors or other pets) by KZread videos, sound full on. Therefore she knew what's coming. During the noisy lift off she simply slept. Sometimes mature cats are a blessing.

My animals are amazingly spoiled. We couldn’t have kids so our 5 cats and big ole dog are our kids (as lame as that sounds). They have their own savings account for animal emergencies. I would bend space and time for them if I could.

You are a very thoughtful pet owner. You not only took into accounts your cats interest but the other passengers. So many people think they are entitled to take their “comfort”animal on a plane. I like that you paid for her flight. Anti anxiety/sedative medication is really important for transporting animal.

At one point (many many years ago) I was planning on moving overseas and I was terrified of bringing my cats on the plane ride. I know how much anxiety they had in simply going to the vet and car rides. I'm so glad Chungus did so well! Props to you guys for taking such good care of her.

That's great, you guys took the time and understanding of your kitty. 🐈‍⬛🐾

A few tips for anyone flying with your cat: 1) Make sure the carrier you use is labeled aviation approved or similar. The cat and carrier will have to fit on the floor in front of the seat, preferably mostly under the seat in front of you. If it’s not the right size it will cause delays/ possibly prevent you from traveling at all. 2) Start planning early. Most airports have specific paperwork that is needed to approved before your kitty for the flight. Many that do require said paperwork be submitted a certain amount of time before the flight. 3) Have any important vet paperwork/approval documents/ etc. within easy reach. I put them in the pocket of my carrier 4) If you are worried your kitty might have an accident/something might spill, etc. put a puppy pad on the bottom of the carrier, preferably with a blanket/other soft item on top. That way the wetness wouldn’t soak through the carrier, the smell should be contained, and it’s easy to quickly make your cat’s space dry again. 5) If you are traveling alone with your cat, make sure to use the bathroom before hand. It will be difficult to maneuver into a bathroom with a cat, and leaving the cat alone/with a stranger is going to be super stressful on your kitty (and potentially dangerous). 6) Make sure your kitty can always see/smell you. I would put my hand in the carrier every so often to pet her/reassure her, and she’d lick my hand to confirm she was okay. 7) Lastly, you will draw attention from other people. Most people love animals and the possibility of seeing a cute kitty is alluring. If this will stress your cat out, putting a coat/sweater/blanket/etc. over the carrier will help disguise it.

Definitely! We have a Sherpa Carrier with "Delta Airlines" printed on it (though we fly Alaska, as they, and Hawaiian, are the only two carriers that permit animals in and out of Hawaii.) Also, Sherpa has a "Guaranteed On Board" document, that, if filled out correctly, will ensure that your carrier is accepted for travel, or Sherpa will pay for your plane ticket. Fortunately, we've never had to use this, but we fill it our each time.

Thank you! I did not know that there is so many options for helping the kitty to travel! I am not in hurry to bring mine anywhere, but it is good to have that option!

I took my 12 year old cat on a plane. I gave her a calming chew. On the flight back it wore off and she figured out how to get out of her carrier. She hopped up on my lap and I got a firm talking to by the fight attendant. I gave her another chew and put her back. I’m glad this trip went smoothly for both the cat and owners.

I've taken my cat on a few plane rides and she's gotten used to it so well. Thankfully we trust each other a lot so getting through security is a breeze (except people trying to pet her, thats frustrating) and after i find a quiet area to sit and i open her kennel so she can peep her head out. She never trys to jump out, she just likes to watch people. Then about 30 minutes before boarding i find a family bathroom so she can stretch her legs and i can clean up her peepee pad if needed. She tends to sleep for the whole flight.

We took our cat on a plane for the first time last year and we wanted to see how she'd act. We left her carrier out and we put her in it a few times and took her outside (she loves to go outside) so that she'd get used to it bc it was new. Well we had an hour and a half car ride to the airport, 6 hours between waiting and flying and getting out, then 1.5 hours to my mom's house. She meowed maybe twice. She was very well behaved even going through tsa, takeoff and landing. We got so many comments on how good she was. Good behavior isn't the norm for our cat. She's not terrible, but is usually kind of rude. Especially at that point(still in kitten phase) she was always trying to do something crazy. That was the calmest and nicest day in her life up to that point. She was napping and looking out windows the whole time and seemed so calm 🥺❤️

I flew with my Curly Kitty from Alaska to Wisconsin in 2017 and She traveled like a RockStar. No fussing, no howling. She even sat on my lap and looked out the window. Sadly, Curly passed in 2020 due to heart failure. We shared many great years together. RIP My Sweet Baby Girl.

I give my cat Gabapentin before vet visits too. 😻 One 100 mg pill at midnight and another one 2 hours before the appointment. Makes him just grumpy with dilated eyes rather than “fractious” according to the vets (read angry and ready to fight everyone). He really does not like vet visits. Which is a total 180 from his usual temperament, where he loves everyone and wants to be friends with everyone and their dogs. Such a lover! And he has a long nap after a beeline to his food dish (munchies maybe) when he gets home. This way no vets or techs are harmed during his visits. 😻😻

It's so funny for me to be reading about everyone using Gabapentin as a cat sedative because I take it every day. The sedative effect doesn't actually last long term, at least not in humans, I take it for chronic pain. It was originally developed for epileptics though nowadays other medications are mostly used for that but they found it can help supress some of the rouge pain signals the brain of people with neurological pain conditions gives out. It stops me feeling like I'm being electric shocked and getting those sort of pains mostly but doesn't get rid of the rest of my pains.

As a vet assistant- I couldn't help but die laughing at her on the Gabapentin. I love when they have GOOD reactions to that medication. I've seen cats actually become straight crazy after being put on it. 😂

When I take gabapentin it makes me jittery and edgy but it makes my friend really chilled. I didn't realise it was the same for cats lol

I love that you specify you bought her a specialty ticket and didnt try to falsly claim her as an ESA. (Most airlines dont even let esas in the cabin any more and esas have to ride in the luggage bay now. Also really cool that hte airline offers specially pet tickets.

Her backpack looks quite small . She looks squished! Precious and beautiful kittycat.

What a beautiful girl ❤ I can’t wait to go home and cuddle with my pets after work now 😢

My husband and I have two cats and recently moved from ATL to TX and we just drove the 15 hours with them in the car because the plane was just too much to figure out. Lol. Glad you guys went through the trouble of making sure she was fully comfortable. Beautiful thing. 💙

Gabapentin is strong AF I used to take it. My first few days I felt like I was in space and couldn't do anything! Giving it to a cat seems extreme for anxiety!

Thank you for being respectful of others with your pet. I am dangerously allergic to cats but having her to contained the entire time would make it much safer for me.

Awe this just warmed my heart. It’s so awesome to see a pet owner take such proactive thinking and pre-planning before traveling with a beloved pet. I was a Flight Attendant for American for many years and the way some people travelled with their pets (especially small yippy dogs) was horrifying. So many people don’t realize that your little pet doesn’t know what’s happening - so many strange sounds, smells, voices, etc. They can get very scared and overwhelmed easily. You’re a role model for pet traveling. THANK YOU 🩷 🌴☀️🌴

I appreciate dogs...but the yappy ones (Pomeranian, shih tzu, etc) are not my favorites, simply because that high-pitched bark sets me on edge, especially when those breeds are not well-socialized and trained. Dogs will bark, yes...but a "yapper" on a plane accompanied by a human who doesn't think they have to do anything special? That sounds like fresh hell. 😅

HaHa! Poor kitty! That first shot of her with face up against the mesh she looks unhappy but I think she was just zonked out, based on the second shot!

Had to do this with my cat Fletcher. He was so calm with the medicine and it helped a lot. He needed reassure a couple of time around a lot of people but he did really well during the plane ride which was awesome. A few cries but all I had to do was touch his little head and he was fine for the plane ride.

Its so heartwarming to see what your doing for your cat, even bringing their vet along so they can recommend a medicine on the wayback, going up and beyond for their feline

This is so helpful, we have a very scaredy kitty and we're still learning how to take care of her. Thank you for sharing!

My crazy cat would be clawing thru any medication. Chungus is such a going girl. 😻😺

My dog (4lb chihuahua) flew with me a few months ago, and she was a champ about it. Got a pup cup as a reward for being perfect in the airport, and then she slept pretty much the whole flight. She did start getting fussy when people were getting off, but when i put the carrier on the seat next to me and unzipped it just far enough for her to stick her head out, she was a happy camper- she just didn't really like people walking by her, and wanted to be able to watch them from the safety of the window seat. Which, fair enough! If i was as little as her, giants stomping by with their big rolling bags would probably make me a little nervous too lol.

AWWW she is a sweet lil baby!!! I'm so glad you took the right measures to make sure she was calm!
