We need to make people aware of this disease. I wish they will have vaccine for Corona virus. I am going through it right now. I just learned on 12/10/17 that he may have FIP because of the symptoms: abdominal fluid and fever. Also labs came back he is losing protein(abnormal albumin). I am very sad and crying everyday when i see him getting weaker day by day. Thank you for sharing this. I think let’s all support this and make people aware of FIP.

I completely agree. Not enough cat lover know about this horrible disease. However, there're a vaccine for it. Most vet don't recommend it because it's not full-proof and if the kitty didn't have the virus from the start the vaccine will just expose them to the virus and make it prone to develop into FIP. I'm sending you lot of love and I hope that in a way this vdo is helpful. It was really hard for me making it because I didn't see it coming. At the time, I see at least ten more years with him. So, the reality was numbing as well as heartbreaking. He was really special, is and will always be really special to me. He was my best friend. I still miss him everyday. Okay, now to the useful stuffs, the food and the nutrition is really important after this. Your kitty will most likely refuse to have any, but try to ease them into it. It'll give hime energy to function. Clean your house with bleach, it's the only thing that kill the virus. Do not pet other cats, because there're a chance that you can pass its along. It's not transmitted to human but we're the carrier. I linked the food in the discription box below the vdo. Praying for the little one- M

@@Yehamarin Did not know about the disease existed until my 1 year old kitty got it and recently had to put him down. I watched him go from the most hyper and loud cat to a cat that was struggling to even walk and lift his head. It was so sad to see him deteriorate in front of my eyes and know that nothing was going to help him live so I decided to put him down once the vet said that he was loosing more and more weight (he was 5 lbs, his last year's visit, he was 7 lbs). Hopefully more and more people know about that horrendous disease.

We adopted siblings and Joey (the brother) who was such a nice a loving cat, started getting weak and lethargic. We took him to the vet and we found out he had FIP. He was 10 months old. We were so sad and had to put him to sleep. My pops took it really hard because he got really close to him. It was so sad watching him have trouble breathing and barely eating. Wth is happened a month ago and within a few weeks he got so bad that the only option was to take him in so he didn’t have to be in pain 😿. I’m glad you gave your baby a nice place to live and comfort until he crossed the rainbow bridge. I’m so sorry for your loss and thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the video. Our kitty is 7 months old and dying from FIP. I really appreciate the honest video and your story. It's been so tough to watch our kitty Bitu get so sick after he eats. He will eat and then he hunches over with his eyes closed and he's in so much pain. It's one of the saddest things I've had to deal with.

I wish I had seen this video at the time that my Penny was diagnosed. It has been two weeks and today I am mourning her again. We picked up her ashes today and plan on spread them in a window flower box where she used to sit. I only got two more days with her after she was diagnosed. It was hard to feed her and keep her watered, even with steroids. I couldn't let her suffer. Your time with your fur baby was precious and he had the best family. Thank you for sharing your experience and his memory. RIP Penny and Miqe

i feel so sad for everyone commenting they lost their cats to FIP:( there’s a cure now guys!😭 i’m treating my 9 month old FIP cat and she’s doing so good! it’s just been a week since treatment and she’s turning right around, so much energy and playful. she was in pretty terrible shape a week ago, showing signs of advanced stages of wet and dry, losing control of her back legs, diarrhea, shaking. tons of other symptoms but those were the worst noticeable ones. i saw a difference in just one day, and now a week later she’s doing awesome. look up Mutian, Shire, or Blossom for FIP. i think there are one or two more. mutian is the most expensive :( maybe this comment can save a few kitties !

OMG. I am bawling my eyes out. You are such a good, strong, special human. I am going through the same thing with one of our rescues, a 16 months old boy Bernard who I saved from horrible conditions at a brink of his death. We are not 100% sure that it is FIP and if it is it would be the dry form. I must say thank you Yeha Marin for the wonderful person you are, so caring, loving and strong. Thank you for giving him the life you did. Please adopt another unfortunate soul who is waiting for someone to love him/her. There are soooo many animals out there who need a chance. We have a small cat sanctuary, with 70 cats who were living on the streets, dying but now they have food, friends, heated homes and love and care. So, we often deal with their medical health condition declining. But this is the first time we are potentially dealing with FIP. I am completely devastated, exhausted and depressed. I am losing my mind knowing that he will die very soon yet he is still fighting and that makes it so painful. Torture. Anyhow... Thank you for this video. Much love and respect to you Yeha.

I am so terribly sorry. My Miss Poppy was diagnosed with dry FIB 2 weeks ago. It came on suddenly and we were blown out of the water. I adopted her and she was a rescue kitty out of Spain. She is being treated with meds for fever and antibiotics and also steroids immune depressors. Her appetite is good and she has gotten alot of energy back and has gained weight. She also moves around alot enjoys being spoiled and we spoil her rotten. I am enjoying every second that we have with her and keeping her as comfortable as possible. Her response to the treatment has been a blessing and I pray that she continues to respond.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge of FIP. This is my first time learning about this today. On Wednesday, June 15, 2016, (she was about 6 months old) in the morning while I was still in bed praying I heard a cat crying. When I went out to get her she was under a car. I let her smell my hand and she came right out. Of course I kept her, she was a beautiful Calico cat. She stayed healthy, and very active until around maybe the end of November 2017. Her health started declining. (Breathing hard, as time went by she had to breath with her mouth open. Also she became weak and could no longer jump up on the counter which was what she had done every morning. Her stomach became big and she lost weight and her appetite. This sound like what she had I am sure it is. She was euthanized on Saturday, December 30, 2017. I send you so much love for what you have done for me and others. Now that t know I feel better. Her name is Lolita, (I also called her Lola most of the time). I kept some of her things in my storage space should they be thrown away? Blessings on you life and I love you for loving your cat so much and other cats such as mine! (I had her cremated also) Love from Marierosa and Lolita😘

Hi Marierosa, thank you so much for taking the time to tell me your story. It broke my heart. Your comment was the first thing I read today. It brought me back to why I made this video in the first place. It was personal in many way and I felt that I could not be the only one going through it. I'm happy it helped you in some way. It certainly help me cope with losing him unexpectedly like this. If you want to have other cats, it's best to let the toys go. It's hard for me too because I need a reminder of him. But, it needed to be done since I still have two other healthy one at home. The virus is deathly and could be alive for years and we as human, are carrier of it. when I cremated Miqe, I put his toy along with it. So, he won't get bored up there. I hope little Lola rest easy with the angels. She's a star now. You did everything you could and we have to let them go. I think Lola is lucky to have you, it could not have been not easy making a hard decision for them. But, you did your best. - M

After 12 weeks of GS441524 treatment, she relapsed, perhaps the virus has developed certain strain of resistance towards the drugs. We just lost our second kitten (six months a part) to FIP. The first kitten died with the dry form within a week of this deadly virus. The next kitten just died on 7/2/18 of the wet form. Once her stopped eating our biggest nightmare came true, that she too has FIP. She was breathing really fast and was hoping it was asthma but the X-ray showed the fluid build up. She died right away with the wet form. Total devastation and loss from this disease. They two kittens came from different shelters 5 months a part. We feel Annie (kitten that died first) brought the disease with her and therefore Zuki got the disease and died 6 months later. One day healthy and happy and then suddenly everything changed so quickly. We have one cat left a Bengal, 6 years old and we pray he won't die next. Most pet owners have never heard of the corona virus and awareness is needed. Thank you for sharing your story. It helps us in our grieving.

He slept so much and didn’t eat all he wanted to do was cuddle with me and my husband. We put him down and it was the hardest thing we ever had to do. We still have his sister and she is fine. Our cat died on 14/4/2017 at 15:45, it was HORROR! He was vomiting and we couldn't do anything. I am really sad and cried my eyes out! Our little fluffy friend. We wanted to help him, we also bought a lot of herbs to strengthen him, to make him feel better, we went to doctors, oncologist and so one, but the last day was HORRORfying! When I was on the phone with a doctor, he struggled to the bathroom, I went to him and I found him lying in his own vomit, he was in shock, I took him and hugged him and cleaned him, I had to make a decision and I did, I couldn't save him, I wanted with whole my heart, with all the love I had in me, but I couldn't ;-( on Thursday he was normal and this day, Friday it went terrible, in a blink of the eye it went terrible. I called our VET and we went to her. She took his temperature it was only 33 degrees, TO LOW ;-( and he was so skinny, and his belly went all yellow of a sudden, we had to take a difficult decision, to let him go, give him peace. So the Vet gave him something so he could go to sleep a little, but he vomitted twice just like in the film the excorsist, so much brown water was coming out that little skinny body, it was REALLY HORROR! The Vet was in shock of what she just saw, she said, OMG I have seen a lot but that, that was really bad! And we were in panic crying of what just happened, I could feel his pain and wanted it to stop! So the Vet gave him the final shot, and that took longer then normal before he let go. He vomit all over our hands and arm but I don't care, I wanted him to be free, free from the suffering. If your cat has FIP it is a KILLER!

+Ghost79 I'm so sorry to hear that. I would recommend separating the one that get diagnosed with the virus from the rest. I have three at home so when Miqe got diagnose with FIP, I separate him right away to prevent it to transfer it to my other two. Miqe has FIP that showed sign in the accumulation of fluid in his chest. After the pleural aspiration, he lost his appetite. So I asked, the vet about the calorie intake that Miqe's body weight required to at least make him comfortable. I would recommend the Royal Canin's recovery wet food because this formula is very high in calories in take. But, if your cat refuses the food completely mash the cat food and use the teaspoon and feed them from the side of the mouth, try to paste it on the the top of the hard palette, not the tongue, that way they can't spit. I hope this help. All the best of luck to you. Ask me anything again, If wasn't clear before. Good luck.

Feel sorry for Miqe, Yeha Marin. My cat is also now infected by the same disease. And it is wet-version of FIP. It has been almost 2 months since for the first possitively got infected. His belly (his name is Momo), got bigger since the last month and I plan to bring him to my vet again for the abdominal tap. Yet at the same time I realize it doesn't deal with the virus. What I do is extending the life a little bit while decreasing his torment. I even plan to put him to sleep once, but I realize that I have to give him chance and space to fight. I have no idea how Momo will die one day. But one thing for sure, you did a great job for Miqe for taking care of him, and I will do it for mine. It will be a great lesson for catlovers to take care and pay attention more about them, moreover if they have contacts with unknown wild cats. Cheers!

Hi Fajar, I'm sorry to hear that Momo is also suffer with FIP. When I got the diagnosis about Miqe I thought the same thing about extending his life while decreasing his suffering. I wanted more time with him and also I knew him. He was a fighter even when he was alone on the street before we took him in. I wanted him to have a chance to fight. He did fight though and left peacefully one morning. When I was dealing with this beside him, I always remember that this bond between human and their pet is for life. The hardest part I think is when we have to let them go. I felt cheated of the time I only had with him. But we can make the most of it. Remember though, don't look back. Regret don't do anybody any good. You can make Momo life a little better before he goes. Miqe is for me always here occupies the best space in my heart. Many strength to you, Fajar.

Fajar Ardiansyah Miqe had a room that separated him from the other two. Also it's important to clean everything separate the food water and kitty sand (toilet) FIP is a fatal disease for kitty age around 1-4 years old. My other two are quiet senior they're fine but still I take the precautions necessary for the prevention of the infection. My vet recommend the bleach mixed with water and use that to mob the floor. I did that to my entire house. Also i was forced to get rid of Miqe belongings such as toys and his mattress. The vet also recommends to not stress the other kitty, just make them stick to their routine, play with them, watch your hand everytime beforehand.

Hi Alma, when I found out that Miqe had FIP I separated him right away. Cleaning my hands every time before I play with my other cats is important, and I make sure to clean the house with bleach regularly because the vet said it's the only way to kill the virus around the house (The virus could last for years if you don't clean it properly). If you separate your other cats in time they'd be safe. When I care for Miqe I tried not to touch my other cats at all because I spent so much time with him I don't want to risk any chance of being carrier to my other cats. My heart goes out to you and your little precious. It's a horrible disease and I hope you find this helpful. If you need anything, come back to this post and I'll be writing back to you. My 9 month old kitten was diagnosed two weeks ago with corona virus... her symptoms pretty much show fip. She has fluid in her abdomen. She is anemic and has jaundice. They put her on an antibiotic. And a high calorie nutritional supplement which I have to make her eat. She follows me around still but is definitely lethargic. Looking at her even though she is sick I cannot imagine her being to the point of death. Did your cat deteriorate very fast, did you have an indication? Or was it just a slow process? Everyday she is alive I feel it is a victory. I was told she would only last days because of the kind of fip she has but she is still going. It is hard to look at her everyday fearing I will find her passed. I think having this false hope that she will pull through feels like torture. I have read some cats have pulled through but it's extremely rare. I'm so sorry you had to go through this as well. It is a everyday pain and hard for others to understand. I'm so sorry. In my case, it happened very fast, faster than I anticipated. Mostly because, I was hanging on by the idea that if he gets enough calorie to function. He could fight the virus. It's deathly and incurable. I think some cats pull through because there're still difficulty in precisely diagnosing the symptom so the vet often told me that some cases get misdiagnosed. I hope for the best for your little one too. Miqe is at peace now. It took a long time for me to comes to term with the idea of regret and the finality of goodbye. He’s still eating and grooming but his mobility has decreased and after walking a few steps, he plops down to rest. We don’t know if he’s in pain and don’t want him to suffer. Abrina Nurmayanti it's better to separate them for now. You'll need bleach to mob out every room your little one has been in contact with, get rid of the toys, It's the only method to kill the virus, recommends by the vet. Since the virus can linger for two or three years. You'll need to separate the food and water too, wash your hand every time before playing with Bibi. I don't have her contact but she's at Chula. I think the experimental trial is an injection. It's really expensive but it worth a shot. My Miqe had some white pill but due to the water in his chest, everything had to in moderation.

Many thanks for your reply. At the moment Chuchu is also under antibiotics, immunosuppressive, and other immuno-something drugs. My current vet (in Pattanakarn area) also recommended the injection it's called Virbagen Omega (Interferon), costs around 4,500 THB/bottle (10ml), and I will need 3 to 4 bottles for intensive injection. I am now still waiting for the result and tomorrow we will have to go to the vet for follow-up and maybe for the fluid suction because it's getting bigger again today :'(

Hi Dear Yeha, I am very moved by the depth of your feeling and care for Miqe. I noted you said you were buddhist and if you are also vegan, there is no higher honor that you could give Miqe than to also love and respect all species. So feel further comfort in that if you are vegan (as I am.) I am a little puzzled by his being bitten when he got loose as the trigger of the FIP. Perhaps he had benign coronavirus in him already and the trauma of the bite triggered the mutation to FIP? I have not read that a bite from another cat can infect coronavirus. They say it's oral-fecal ... from litter boxes. Also being 4 years old sounds odd too. Correction: I just watched Dr. Becker's youtube and she did say that it can be transmitted by saliva. I too am going through what will be a never-ending pain concerning two 10 week old sibling brothers that I got off the street, and then entrusted to a rescue organization person. While I was busy fostering the other cats, this person kept them in her shed for 4 months and did not solicit for fosterers as she always does for her other cats. When I came to take them to foster, she handed them back to me saying "they are a mess and this one is probably feral". About 2 months in I noticed a hind leg gait problem with the semi-feral one. She emailed me "I feel I failed these kittens. I am sorry". Make a long story short it got worse and I had to take him for euthanasia on May 11. FIP is suspected and there is a necrospy report pending on him which I am anxiously awaiting from the referring vet. The friendly one I got to a different rescue org. and he was adopted within 2 weeks, but now he has the same symptoms. The adopters are angels and taking care of him ... they express his urine for him ... he's getting steroids and there's improvement but no one is saying this cat will be normal again and live very long. I'm told the vets have ruled out FIP for this one. It's all very odd. I can't help but feel that if these brothers were fostered out early enough they would have been healthy and the semi-feral one would have been socialized and it would be a happy outcome. The other 3 siblings were only with her for 12 days and I fostered them and they got adopted and are all fine. Something happened being in that shed for so long and I feel they were cheated. I saved them from the street but they got still got cheated. Very hard to deal with. Thank you for listening. THank you for giving Miqe the gift of knowing what love from a human can be like. xo

Thank you so much for commenting. Your word bring tears to my eyes, this really mean a great deal to me. I later on talked to many vets about FIP and they all give similar opinion that some cats might carry the disease and never show sign of it till their pass on however due to stressed or significant change in their immune system, it could cause the mutating of the virus. I think Miqe had this. I got him of the street and due to that he was expose to pretty much all kind of viruses. He was very strong though. So when I think of him, I think of him when he was strong and remember the love we share. A few month after he passed I kept thinking about what I could have done to prevent this over and over again. I don't think many people in my life understand the lost thought. He was my best friend and without him I see a big void in everything. I was sad. I'm still sad but the sadness is manageable now. He's up there and I'm sure I'll see him again some day. To answer your question I'm a Buddhist and we believe that some animal were taken so quickly because he has to move on to better place. There are more karma related religious explanation to this but I only remember some of it. I'm making a transition back to vegetarianism. I was a vegetarian for 8 years and I'm excited to get back to that life style and ultimately try Vegan. I'm glad that this vdo somehow connects us even in this unfortunate circumstances. From what you've written me, you didn't fail the kitties. There're no way you could have done anything to prevent it. You've done all you can and there's no going back to change it. Don't look back. FIP is a horrible disease. You give them love and care even for a short period of time. They were lucky to have you. I hope you see the positivity in being the brightness in their life. Thank you so much for commenting. I truly appreciate your kind words. -Marin

Yes I appreciated how he head-butted you (a sign of affection) and the delight on your face when he did that. I can see how smitten you were with Miqe and I feel your pain and understand your need to connect with others who might offer some comforting words or insights. I know I need to ventilate so that the sadness and anger doesn't destroy me. In my case there was also betrayal by the other person involved. I feel she senselessly set them up for failure by keeping them in her shed for 4 months. Even if that was not the cause, she put them at risk. In terms of dealing with loss of a loved one (human or animal), I look at it as we all have to go through that door sometime, some of us sooner rather than later. Our bodies can betray us whether we are young or old. It is just a reality we are better off making peace with. I do believe that animals have souls and that it IS a better place on the other side, and if I am wrong, well at least suffering has come to an end. You rescued Miqe from a hard life on the street and you gave him 4 years of love, safety and comfort. That's major. The problem is we get attached to the tactility of a physical being. They say, even in Buddhism I believe, that attachment causes suffering. I know letting go is hard. But time will heal and the sharp pain will dull. And yes by all means please go veg -- vegan. It's still suffering and death for cows and chickens, and the fate of our planet, to only go vegetarian. So many great new vegan foods on the market now. Sending love to you, lovely Marin.

Hi, I am super moved by your debt of thinking and deep analyzation of this situation. I am a vegan and animal rescuer. We have a small cat sanctuary with cats that are not adoptable and unwanted. When I read your words, I feel I can relate to you in every word. I carry a lot of guilt on my part as well that I did not do 100% for all the ones I took from the streets. At the moment one of our boys, 15 months old Bernard is dying, most likely of FIP. I care for him for the past 2 weeks on a daily basis while doing everything else also. I lost 2 other cats in the past 2 weeks (different diseases). It is real mental torture for me and I am completely drained and a bit crazy too. On top of everything, now I am concerned if the coronavirus is not everywhere and more cats will catch it. I would love to connect with you if you will ever read this message. My email is: danielanyvltova@hotmail.com. Thank you for all your help, love and purity of your heart, you are truly rare human. Much love and respect, Ela.

Ezgi you're doing the right thing, separating the healthy one. I don't think it's too late sometimes even though the unlucky ones get sicker the healthy one might never show sign throughout their life time. Don't lose hope and don't beat yourself up, you're doing the best you can.
