    1. Diet: eliminate carbs. 2. less environment allergens (dust from litter, smoke, sprays etc.) 3. 95% curcumin 100mg/10lbs. 4. add essential fatty acids such as fish oil (500-1000 mg per 10lbs of body weight 5. honey 1/2tsp/10lbs

Hi, I would just comment if you haven't been giving kitty fish just monitor their reaction because some felines do not process fish well despite the cartoons we often see with a kitty and a fish. It can worsen asthma, trigger allergies or cause GI problems. Just an FYI...

Mullien tea is also brilliant at naturally clearing lung problems in cats. Brew a cup for between 7-12mins for medicinal use. Then let it go luke warm. Then syringe 2-3mls. My cat can go about 3weeks without needing more with this tea. Haven’t been at the vets for breathing difficulties in over a year.

Hi ! Writing this everywhere to help someone maybe: My two cats from different litters started to have asthma randomly and it took me a year to figure out why. I first thought I was unlucky and it was maybe a cleaning product I was using or the dust from the litter and I started to try to change everything in my home, even their food because I thought it could be an allergy. After all this time, I bought a second humidifier because it was still very dry where I lived and I thought the cause could be the dryness. I noticed it was getting worse and after a lot of research (so hard to find info about this), I concluded that it was caused from the hard water in the humidifiers! It creates a white floating dust that animals and children are particularly sensitive to when breathing. When I completely stoped using the humidifiers, the asthma of my cats stopped completely. I hope it helps somebody who is as desperate as I was to find why their cat is having non genetic asthma.

Our cat has had asthma for a long time. Nothing helped until we tried prednisolone. Helped with inflammation. He went from many cough attacks per day to just one or 2. We slowly waned him off it. What we currently love and has helped the most is a food from the vet. It's soft food in small cans called c/d (which prevents urinary tract issues) but also helps with stress. The chicken stew one with rice and veggies. Good luck

Great information as my cat has asthma and in the past my veterinarian has given him Prednilsone (Prednisone for cats) but I would much rather do it naturally than with a cortisone that can do damage to other body parts. I as a human have asthma, and prednisone, although I have never had to take it regularly, caused osteopenia...so doing it naturally is far more better for your animal . It is great that we have a veterinarian on youtube, Dr. Jones' telling us what we can do! Thanks Dr. Jones for such "valuable" information.

After visiting multiple vets, countless tests, steroids, inhalers etc I followed your advice and eliminated carbs (dry food) from my cats diet. I only give her complete wet food meals now. @@yhvhskid Hello. Initially I eliminated all dry kibble and gave her a high quality complete wet food. It contained mainly chicken and some fish or duck. After a while she was doing great but when I introduced a little kibble she would revert back to coughing. I tried multiple brands. After researching raw diet I decided to try it. I found a recipe online and followed the instructions (you need to be careful and add in all the vitamins and minerals they need) I make them in batches and store in the freezer. Thankfully she liked the raw food. I followed the raw diet for about 6-8 months. Nothing else but the raw food (chicken fillet, thighs, bones, a little liver all grinded up, vitamins and minerals). After that I was a bit more relaxed... a caught her eating my other cats kibble. But she was fine so I kept letting her have some. After the 6 - 8 month only raw food period she has mostly high quality commercial wet food, a little raw food and eats kibble from time to time. I have it out for my other cat and she occasionally has some. She has had a few episodes but they are very very mild and not even once a month. I think the period when she was on the raw food kind of served as a reset for her body. My vet thinks I'm crazy but no more cortisone , medications inhalers etc. Hope this helps u with your cat. Its terrible to watch them coughing

My cat has asthma for roughly 18 months and it gradually got worse, i came in from popping to the shop yesterday to find my poor Leo dead at 5 years old. He has never been the healthiest of cats bless him and was on steroids full time to reduce the inflammatory on his lungs. I never thought asthma would be the route cause of his death and to find him dead was horrifying. Please be aware that if you looking at these videos because your uncertain if it a hairball or cough etc.. it really is a serious condition and causes your cat great discomfort, get them to the vets. Avoid using aerosols around them, dont use dusty cat litter and there are cat inhalers you can get. Only after loosing him did i realise how serious it was, i was advised by the vets the steroids will shorten his life but my poor boy lost his battle way to early and all it makes you do is look back and think what else you could have done. Avoid that feeling by doing what you can now. RIP Leo x

Hello Dr. Jones, appreciate you and your animal advocacy and education outreach. Regarding EFA's, my cat's hair on her head falls out when she eats fish on a regular basis, so would it be wise to assume that she is allergic and therefore should avoid fish oil as well? In researching EFA's for cats, found this good article. But wanted to ask you, are the EFA's in ground flax, pumpkin, sunflower and hemp powder equally beneficial to the oils of the same plants if freshly ground (maybe better in weekly batches)? I tried giving my cat honey. She puked up 4 gigantic hair balls. Wow this should definitely be recommended for hair balls over petroleum based jelly!!! Hairballs isn't the overall problem, I think she has asthma, but it was shocking to see that and it's good to get them out of her. So give cats curcumin with our without ground pepper? How do you administer it at home? I tried turmeric powder and she won't eat anything with it in it. Even in micro-doses. What about tea or tincture? And how would you calculate dosage? May have to give it to her in a syringe though. Also what are your thoughts about ginger for cats? Thank you animalwellnessmagazine.com/omega-fatty-acids-pet-health/

Thank you! My cat has been coughing and the vet thinks she has asthma. I tried to give her the pills he gave her and she won't take them. Putting them in her mouth is impossible, she just shreds me to pieces and runs off. I've broke them in tiny pieces and tried hiding them in her wet food, and she pushes them aside with her nose and continues eating. I've softened the pills in warm chicken broth and she just ignores it. I've put them in greenies treats and she wants nothing to do with them. I've mixed with her regular treats and she finds it. She knows something is different and is too smart and notices and won't touch them. I've called to vet back and begged for suggestions but they just the say the same things. I want to say to the vet that cats are not dogs and not so eager to eat everything. And here she is, and just continues to cough. But this has given me some hope. I'm going to try honey right away as that's what I have on hand and can't get to the store soon. Later I will try the other suggestions, like the fish oil too which is more natural for cats, and hopefully will be drawn to. In the mean time I'm switching her over to newspaper cat liter, to reduce dust in her liter. Thankfully no one smokes around her or uses heavy chemicals, etc... house is not too dusty either.

I finely chop up bits of roast beef or roast chicken , mix with the fat from their cooking juices then compress and roll them into treat size balls when they are firm.. i freeze them until needed then take one or two out, defrost and warm slightly, push tablet into the middle then give as a treat! I do the same with cod from the fish and chip shop or battered cod. The squidgy bit between the fish and batter I scrape out. Mix with chopped up cod then roll into balls. Freeze.

@Edith Davis There's another video someone posted on youtube that talks about using this (the dried part is very important, so all the sap is out of the pine as it's not good for cats otherwise)... in addition to a certain litter box. I've yet to do it, but after watching this video I'm going to try it - at least get some pellets first to see that mine don't mind the odor, and then switch to the box system I saw on youtube.

Sooo poor guy would look like he had cement shoes on from standing in the puddle and collecting the liter. The stuff was very hard to remove from his paws and I was concerned about him ingesting it. Decided sand is natural and clean and in abundance here. I change 2 x daily, but he has a dry hacking cough that does not seem produce anything. I also treat for hair balls regularly and brush him daily. Do you think his cough is asthma. Is your cat on corticosteroïds? Allergic reactions can be triggered by numerous things like dust, dustmites, grasspolls, spraycans like hairspray and deodorant, parfumes, et cetera. You can also put blankets in the freezer for 48 hours to kill the dustmites (allergic reactions can get triggered by dustmite faeces) and wash it afterwards. A dryer can also remove some dust out of the blankets. Shake out the blankets outside of your house and repeat it every 2 weeks / month. The last tip I can give isn't a cheap one, but a ionic purifier can help too.

Fairly certain Curcumin is Tumeric, as Tumeric is known for it's curcuminoids. I take it for chronic pain as an anti-inflammatory. I get Youtheory 1000mg capsules at Costco. You can find them at Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, Kroger, any pharmacy really. You will want to have a small digital food scale though to weigh the powder you break out of the capsules. Sprinkle in with fresh chicken hearts or livers, or a can of food.

Please understand that cats don't have the enzyms to break down the metabolyt and kills your cat! I don't know how the person comes to that conclusion, but never ever give paracetamol to your cat. Doctor prescribed her liquid prednisone to follow that up with getting an Aerokat inhaler. Haven't really noticed any difference since she has been on the prednisone, so i will be contacting vet again Monday about that. My question also is that she doesn't have any coughing at all. Could they have asthma without the cough? The did an xray on her when she was diagnosed. Also, is there a connection between her asmtha and weight loss? Thanks, and I plan on trying you advice and tips. I enjoy your videos.

Make sure you are not using anything scented (candles, diffusers, cosmetics, etc.) with fragrance. Cats are highly sensitive and can become very sick over time from breathing these things in. Keep everything unscented product wise. Some cats have died due to prolonged exposure to certain scents that human think smell "pretty".

What did you find out? My cat has bronchitis and her cough stopped also but she isnt eating and her bones are sticking out. She also has kidney issues but the weight loss started with the breathing issues.

I was wondering if my cat might have asthma- looks like she does, based on some videos I've seen of other cats doing exactly what she does. Unfortunately, my other cat has begun this a bit as well. So, now I'm wondering if it's something in my apartment. I also have horrible allergies, but that been my whole life. So, it's hard to tell. I wish I could afford to get them checked out. Last time I took them to the vet, the more severe one freaked out and the vet decided not to do any testing. So, I was left without any answers, because she got too stressed being there. It's so hard trying to balance health and finances. I struggle with this myself, as well, but they have the added issue of not being able to communicate when they're unwell.

@Abra Morgan I replied to someone else with this, and will the same to you. while the doctor does recommend getting them on steroids first, if you don't have the money (sometimes there are county vet centers that give discounts - here in the US at least, you'd have to call) ... I'd follow the other suggestions he poses in the video above. There's also this: www.theonlinevet.com/index.php# so check that out for ways to help your cat yourself. With my prior cat I had to learn the hard way that I had to be the advocate for him, pay attention and not just lean on traditional veterinarian treatments. I was able to extend his life by another 2 years, when that vet had said he had less than a month... but if I'd figured out things sooner I'd have had him even longer than that. All my best to you. Don't give up - watch the video above and click that link I included.

Same here. My kitty puts her stomach on the ground and shrugs her shoulders and coughs for a long time. My suggestion is to take a video next time it happens so that the vet can confirm if it is indeed an asthma attack.

@@kricketkitty I make it myself, or I buy Stellas Chewy's dried raw food. It would be a good idea to start them off with Stellas and see if they like it. The transition should be slow depending on your cat. The ratio I use is 85/10/5. Some use 80/10/10. It just depends on your cats health as well.

@@angelinap9997 No, but ashma usually is because the kitten wasnt eating mommas milk. Respiratory issues can be cured and controlled. I would put you cat on raw food regardless. Steam showers help as well. While you take a hot bath have your cat in the bathroom.

Doctor, will these things help with congestion? My 7 year old cat was diagnosed with asthma last week.
