He was THE guitarists guitarist. Having him for your music teacher is like having Michaelangelo for an art teacher.

“Take the Money and Run” and “Fly Like an Eagle” are great, but the Steve Miller Band songs that really had my friends and me dancing and sweating and air-guitaring back in the ‘70s were "Jungle Love," "Jet Airliner," "Swingtown," and "Rock 'n Me." I'd love to be able to hear those songs for the first time again!

Loved Steve Miller's huget hit "Jet Airliner" until I heard the original by blind Paul Pena(RIP). Have to say way more soulful and bluesy. Paul Pena was the most soulful cat that ever lived.Also Check out " Gonna Move" " " A bit of alright".

Walsh's second best tune IMO! Yes, guys... Please do this one. You will entirely dig it. It's sassy, ironic and braggadocious. "Life of Illusion" is the only other of his I'd suggest first. Fantastic and fun Spanish Horn section. Joe Walsh's solo stuff is SO fun! ;)

Mentioning Boz Scaggs, because he is adjacent to many musicians you played on the channel so far. Boz played and sang with Steve Miller on and off since he was 12. Worked with future members of Toto and Les Dudek. David Paich and drummer Jeff Porcaro (later of Toto) played on his Silk Degrees album which was a huge hit. David co-wrote the song Lowdown with Boz, and it is a song worth checking out.

"Serenade" from the "Fly Like An Eagle" album is one of my all-time favorites of The Steve Miller Band. The instrumentation and Miller's melismatic voice all through the song blends perfectly. I guarantee you both will give it an "S".

Drum intro to this song is considered one of the top-10 most iconic.

One song turned me into a fan of The Steve Miller Band was LIVING IN THE USA from the album SAILOR. Check it out. Just celebrated my 69th birthday

This song takes me back to high school with a big smile on my face. This, Thin Lizzy’s “The Boys Are Back In Town,” and BTO’s “Taking Cate of Business” remind me of each other.

"Swingtown" and "Rockin' Me" are two other good SMB tunes that are worthy of consideration.

Sweet choice for Steve Miller! This is a REALLY fun song! You guys will truly dig this one, I promise! It's a fantastic road trip/cruising song. Try Space Cowboy or Rock'n Me next! I was lucky enough to see them live for free at a little riverfront mall in Toledo Ohio one Summer. What a fun show! Just laying on some cement steps with a not really crowded area in front of them. GREAT Summertime music, indeed!

Steve Miller Band was always my good mood band. My best friend and I took many road trips jammin' out to it, now that she has passed away it all means even more to me.

I gotta say, I'm bummed that Just Got Paid didn't win. Such a great song. I went and listened to it just now, because I knew it wasn’t going to get played here today. It’s very relatable to me at the moment, as I just got paid. Rent’s due, so all I have is a pocket full of change!😩

Steve Miller Greatest Hits 74-78 is one of the best greatest hits albums from that era of bands.

I literally wore out my vinyl album of Steve Miller Band's greatest hits. Great song. Best random line in a song is "He makes his living of the people's taxes."

I saw the Steve Miller Band open for the Grateful Dead in ‘92. None of my friends were interested in watching them and chose instead to hang outside the venue until the GD came on. So I went in by myself and spent the whole night dancing in front of the stage alone (along with several thousand others). It was a blast. They have a lot of fun tunes, and really good live. So glad I didn’t miss them.

Someone below mentioned The Smiths. Finally! Dude on the right will dig Andy Rourke's bass playing tastiness and guy on the left will certainly appreciate Johnny Marr's guitar work. Heaven Know's I'm Miserable Now, This Charming Man, Rusholme Ruffians, ect..

I had to scroll and scroll looking to see if someone had explained this for you, to make sure I didn’t duplicate it. Glad someone did say it. Dragnet had three lives, first as a radio show, then an early TV series - premiering 1951, then a 1967 color TV revival, and in the 1980s a movie with Tom Hanks, played for comedy but with some loving tributes to the original.

I'm curious to see A&A's reaction to "Take the money and run". Its okay, kind of simple, and haf alot of air play over the years. I think "The Joker" or "Fly like an eagle" are much better tunes, but that's just my opinion...🤘

The first song my first granddaughter learned to sing at about 15 months old. She just broke out in song one day after I started the CD. Was a milestone moment in my life.

I always thought there was kind of a meta-level to Take the Money and Run. The whole story is introduced as a bored listless couple who just sits around and watches TV (the Tube, short for the Boob Tube, a popular colloquialism at the time), and then they go on this adventure, but what would ordinarily be considered an incredibly dramatic story is delivered so casually, just like somebody getting high and sitting there passively watching a TV show, laugh. To me, that's just pure genius.

Jet Airliner. Rock N Me has a great groove. Just great, fun guitar driven music made for cruising. You nailed this review at the word “fun”

In 7th grade '77-'78, I listened to Steve Miller Greatest Hits '74-'78 at least 38,000 times. Koss Stereo headphones plugged into a Marantz amp with a Pioneer turntable. Same with Eagles. Thanks for your genuine reactions!

this was just radio music when it came out...can you imagine hearing a lot of the bands you do from that time period, from Stones to Doobies to Yes, Steve Miller and Many others,,,on the radio...I imagine is hard to imagine for you guys! Jet Airliner would probably keep your groove goin! ....lol

Its time for Van Morrison. As for today, never been much of a SM fan. Decent radio pop to sing to but I would never buy to listen to . That said you never understand the really good stuff until you can compare it to basic stuff. Enjoy guys. The journey continues.

Are we all just going to ignore that A&A have not heard Driver's Seat by Sniff n The Tears? Let's get some likes on this.

Agree with some others, this song and a few other songs were so over-played when they came out (and even for years after). Worse, they crossed over so you heard them on pop like stations as well as rock. Songs like this you couldn't really get away from, and to this day I am not a SMB fan. There are bands and songs I can listen to many times over, but SMB is one I could do without for the rest of my life 😉. I look forward to your impressions of this song, as a fresh listener, I'm betting you'll really dig it.

One of the things I really enjoy about the channel is getting to hear overplayed songs with new ears.

Saw them live in 1096 with dad at Eastern Washington University (home of the Eagles). When Fly Like an Eagle came up, the place went wild. All these songs were great with extended live jams.

For 17 years, my husband and I argued about this song: the lyric is "if you think I'm going to sit around....then you've got another thing coming". How can you think, then have another thing (not another think) coming? Doesn't make sense to me. We finally stopped listening to the song together because I never understood that; I'm sure my husband continued to listen to it on the sly.

This is such a fun song! Had a nice little visit to the chat & I'm good for the day. haha! I have to agree with Andy on this A to A+, for the mere fact the story really didn't develop? The instrumentation & vocals are impeccable, but the story doesn't capture the imagination? idk. Have a wonderful weekend & stay safe as well! :)

Hoping A&A will get to discover some lesser known but great bands..Captain Beyond, Savoy Brown, Humble Pie, Ten Years After etc. As far as women artists Janis Joplin has got to be first in line.

lol - I love the way you condensed the deep meaning of this song.

“A good song can be striped down to an acoustic guitar or piano and still sound great”. Perfect.

Hard to react to everything but a couple bigger acts that need some representation are Cheap Trick, Moody Blues, Beach Boys, Blood Sweat and Tears, and more Police and ELO please.

It is a fun song, and Steve Miller has more of them too.

This is the song you play at the pool party when everyone is a few adult beverages in and having a good time. Great tune and great reaction guys!

Yeah, Man !! "Sneaking Sally..." is some, groovy/funky, Memphis /Nawlins, 70's Jam ! Like Little Feat, Humble Pie, and Mother’s Finest

The Head East "Never Been Any Reason" is amazing. Great song. Saw Head East live. The opened for a Milwaukee Brewers baseball game. They sang the national anthem in perfect four part harmony.

"Jungle Love" is a great one as well.

I think you guys were a little too kind with your rating on this one. Music is subjective, though! 🎸

Pop/Rock radio in the 70s was awesome to grow up with. Steve Miller, Doobies, Steely Dan, Jefferson Starship, Linda Ronstadt... It was a superb era of astounding musicians with varying styles.

It's a song that you might not play deliberately but if it comes on the radio you're turning it up to sing along every time.

You guys need to do a couple more songs in one session. Too many songs out there. ✌ Peace ✌

Geez, back to America's Top 40. His earlier stuff is more genuine. Kow Kow Calculator, Living in the USA, Song for Our Ancestors, My Dark Hour, Space Cowboy, Your Saving Grace are examples.

Yeah, but they only do 3 songs a week and polls are always going to go the way of the more obvious (or lowest common denominator if you prefer!) songs. I'd love them to hit more deep cuts or some great bands that never bothered the US charts at all (Marillion, Magnum etc) but that will likely never happen, and I'll just enjoy what they do offer up.

Most people know and love Steve Miller from the mid 70's. He also has 2 killer tracks from a few years earlier that are must hear quality. Livin' in the USA and Space Cowboy.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, y'all. As usual, I heard things in the song I normally gloss over 'cause I've heard the tune so often. Not in my top tier of songs, but still plenty to like. This is not an "S" imo. "S" designations were supposed to be mean 'special', genre-defining, unique, representative of the band or artist as a whole. Not sure why you would consider this an "S". It's great - fun - but not an 'S'. Sorry ♥

His greatest hits album is filled with fun radio hits. I went to see him once and it was like. Oh yeah he did this one, oh and that one, played for like an hour and a half pretty much one familiar catchy song after another. Basically fun summer time back drop music..

Yep, the kings of catchy, fun songs. Nothing complicated. Just kick back and enjoy. Brings me back to HS and drinking Milller High Life (in his honor)

A great "light hearted"(homicide, felony assault, grand theft, fleeing&eluding and I'm sure Det. Mack would tack on 2 or 3 more charges) ballad to kick off another great weekend of 'Pandemic Mayhem"! Steve Miller admitted that he's not the greatest singer and not the greatest guitarist. But as a writer, story teller, and band leader he was top notch for all the reasons you touched on and I'm so impressed that you get him! 👍👍

This is one of those songs best enjoyed rolling down the highway. Road music. Steve Miller is the King of the radio friendly song, usually between 3 and 4 minutes, but quality.
