    I tried learning about the historical context of the two China issues (people forget that Taiwan’s official name is Republic of China) leading up to present. It’s tough to decide how it should be resolved peacefully since you have 3 sides that are unwilling to compromise. You have the CCP on mainland who wants Taiwan under their rule. Across the Taiwan strait, you have the Kuomintang on Taiwan that wants the mainland under their rule, and then you have Taiwan independence side like DPP that wants neither PRC nor ROC.

    As a Taiwanese, I suggest you to find someone who can read Chinese reports/newspapers/on-line symposiums, you will see very different perspectives about Taiwan's military... We have serious problems in communities and military organization, not even mentioning issues in training, strategic thinking, logistics... In facing the big challenge posted by China's political and military capability, I don't feel like we're ready for fighting and protecting ourselves. There is a long path in front of us...

    I don't think China is going to give you much of a choice in the matter, they very clearly seem to be building up to invasion. The fact you are an island nation, and the fact China does not have the best navy is your best hope. It doesn't matter if China has 2,000,000 or 2,000,000,000 soldiers if they can't land them on your shores in great numbers. As the battle of Thermopylae (and many such battles since) has shown us, numbers mean little if you lack the capacity or logistics to deploy them.

    @@viysnjor4811 China only has the second best navy, just depolyed the equivalent tonnage of the Royal navy last year, the navy is to keep the Americans away, I don't know where the navy comes into the equation. It's not the battle of Thermopylae, as for capacity or logistics, it was never really a issue? Despite hyped up by laymen in the Western media circles?? Like you know most of D-day force was civilian shipping right? China produces like 40% of the entire world shipping so how would supplies and depolyments ever be an issue? China will deplete Taiwan radars using anti-radiation missiles and then land while saturating the shore with artillery. The shore is iterally within range of MLRs. Taiwan has the right attitude if they end up fighting alone it's just unnessary losses, they need to fight to the last American marine if they are to repell a Chinese invasion.

  • @viysnjor4811

    @viysnjor4811

    9 ай бұрын

    @@lolasdm6959 What are you talking about? Are you confusing D-Day with Dunkirk? D-Day was most certainly not "40% civilian shipping", that doesn't even make sense. The amount of military vessels on D-Day spanned the entire horizon, because it turns out to land tens of thousands of troops, you need a LOT of ships. And this was before the invention of shore-launched anti-ship missiles. "the navy is to keep the Americans away" a job it would fail miserably at. The US navy could take on the Russian and Chinese navy in full force at the same time and still win handily, to say China is the second best navy is like saying dogs are the second smartest species on Earth.

  • @lolasdm6959

    @lolasdm6959

    @@viysnjor4811 Do you know what liberity ships were? Look them up. Sorry for bursting your bubble but the majority of ships used for D-day were civilian cargo ships not military vessels, majority of any expeditionary fleet would be cargo ships. China produces 40% of world shipping production, not the D-day force was 40% cargo ships, it was way more. If it was 40% the allies would have not been able to move after they took the shores lmao. There is a reason why most personnel the US depolys anywhere are logisitics personnel. It takes one or two person to keep one soldier fighting on the frontlines how many ships does it take to keep one carrier topped up? The PLA has been intensely studying how British royal navy was able to mobolize civilian shipping to supply it's war effort in South American during the folklands war, despite Pentagon predicting a loss. If the Chinese military disables Taiwan radars nothing will stop civilian shipping from unloading on the shore. Dogs are far from the second smartest species on earth, pigs and parrots are way smarter than them. Not to meantion chimps, dolphins and octopuses exist. Dogs also don't have a botton where they press it and most human civilization is gone. However China has zero military commitments outside of the western pacific. As seen in the 2016 south China sea crisis, where one Chinese fleet forced back a US carrier group. China doesn't have a global empire to maintain. Moreover how far does the US want to esclate? How many causualities is it willing to sustain? If it enters the western pacific with overwhelming force do they have the logistics to sustain constant fighting? Do they want to risk nuclear warfare?

    As someone who was serving the Taiwanese army just 2 months ago(not anymore), I gotta say I love how I've seen almost all the stuff presented in the video, other than the air force and navy ofcourse. Love how you are crediting the army and I absolutely love how people believe in Taiwan's ability to fight. However, I gotta admit that nobody here is ready to fight. people in the army are more salary people than soldiers, many are considering quitting because of harsh working conditions and horrible pay, and the equipment we use are far from modern militaries. The T91 I used was pretty reliable, but the tanks, trucks and other military vehicles are from the cold war, a lot of which are even older than I am, and nobody in Taiwan really wants to fight, other than the internet keyboard warriors who know they won't be the ones fighting. I served in the main battle force aka the one that's supposed to go to the frontlines immediately btw, that's how I've seen most of the best Taiwanese equipment.

    Recognizes Taiwan is the only China. A lot of the Latin American countries have had 100+ years of diplomatic relationship with Republic of China in Taiwan, and they consider Taiwan as the only China in the world. This is embarrassing for the current Taiwan president because the current administration is actually a pro Taiwan Independence government. They wanted to cut all historical ties with China-Mainland. So when president of Guatemala said Republic of China is the only China in the world, the Taiwanese interpretor had to "modified the translation".

The civil war and conflict between the kmt and ccp is still not over, but the main factions of the original war doesnt hate each other(CCP and KMT) as much as the ccp hating another politcal party called the DPP(tsai ing wen's party). Thank you for the very detailed and well researched video. I would like to just add that Taiwanese history did not begin with the Chinese civil war, and I feel western analysts should also appreciate all the other factors that helped shape Taiwanese identity. The island has been home to many indigenous Austronesian tribes, many of whom retain their culture, while others have been fully integrated into Han Chinese culture with many languages becoming extinct. Taiwan was also influenced not only by China and the migration of ethnic Chinese from the mainland, but also by the Dutch, Portuguese (to a lesser extent), Japan, and the Ryukyu kingdom. Therefore, Taiwanese national identity is based on deeper issues than Chinese anti-communist sentiment.

    Chiang kai shek killed millions of his own people. Why would anyone in their right mind join them when there was another option

    Also just finnish my 4 months sevices in Army 542nd armored brigade this year . They are lot of people here don't want to fight it true , but also a lot of soldiers and people are willing to fight for our homeland . The common problem of our army is low pay and very outdated equipment ( We still use M48 tank and it is about 50 years old now , and last month news just discover that body armor our army use can't even stop the 5.8mm ammo ) and ths US support are .....still too slow and limited . The number of all our forces may be quiet strong for a 20 million population country , but we are facing the biggest forces in this world...... So yes , seems every thing are against us . I can understand why lot of people in my country are seeking the way to "peace surrender" to china ( KMT mainly , they are no more that KMT from WW2 or in Chang Kai-Sheik period , now only thing they care is collaboration with China and earn money . For them , they just want the Chinese reunification . Even that mean we will lost our freedom , they still want to reunification with there great "Motherland China" ) or just afriad or maybe dishonnor our own soldiers . The officer in my camp also tell me that we (4 month trained soldier) are going to defend the beach in the very frontline to earn the times for our main force if the war broke out . No one sure this is true or not , but I jsut want to say , there are still many brave man and women in Taiwan . And we are all not going to give it up and ready to defend our freedom here .

    "Let us hope it won't ever be tested". I would like to be as optimistic as the presenter and to not regard such statements as "wishfull thinking"; but History has shown us over and over again that war is in man's intrinsic nature and that brutality is the most likely outcome when greed and strong opposed interests meet.

    A video like this about Finland and its military would be interesting considering the political situation we are in (kinda like Taiwan, but not exactly). And as a fin that would be pretty cool.

    Most seems correct except for the 205 & arsenal departnments , they has serious problem of performance evaluation , the currect issuing bulletproof vest for Taiwan army dispute is one of the serious problem came to light recently , and i can said this for sure : It's not the only problems among the whole R.O.C military system . For combat readyness it's hard to said Taiwan military is fully prepared for what might coming , not by a long shot to be honest.

    Taiwan’s military problems are the same as those in Ukraine before the Donbas War, but they are not as serious in comparison.
