Which midfield did he tear apart? Lukaku and Werner maybe. Because we all were defending for a reason I don't understand. Let's take the deflected shot that went into the goal out of the picture and it would have been a master class performance from Chelsea to give city the ball and shot them out. The first half was just that. The other chances they got were after the goal when Chelsea was forced to come out unorganized in search of an equalizer, still we defended the chances that they got. I didn't see anything outstanding about city but everything poor from Tuchel. He surprised me about his decision not to press high up the pitch and this made it difficult for us to progress the ball when we win it because we were too close to our pox and out of the right shape to attack successfully. I don't give it to Pep or any city player, but Thumbs down to Tuchel for his team selection yesterday and the decision to sit back against city who were already afraid of us.

@@najmussabir6051 Mount, Havertz and Kai weren't working for Chelsea all that well. Mount especially was not good enough. Even though I'm a city fan, personally, I think Kovacic and Jorginho can do a lot of the creative work for guys like Lukaku. Mount hasn't added anything to Chelsea. Good young player and all that, but he doesn't really work in Chelsea's system with Lukaku in the mix (not a tactical thing but rather it was Mason Mount not combining well with the other two)

When a team wins, they take all the credit. For this game, it wasn't city who outplayed Chelsea but Chelsea, for whatever reason, didn't play. They came with a poor tactics. They decided not to press and that made city look so good. City couldn't split the defense before the goal. I don't see what Pep did to outsmart Tuchel rather Tuchel decided to play like Mourinho and that was b.s.

@@ugososten9649 Tuchel being tactically poor doesn't change the fact that City dominated the game. The reason they didn't press as intensely was because they were afraid of city overloading the midfield (hence the 3-5-2). The CL final is considered a domination even though Pep that time was poor tactically. City couldn't break the defence in the first half, yes, but Chelsea didn't have a shot on target the whole game at home. You can't expect a game between two extraordinarily good teams with water tight defences to leak goals (and in all honesty, City could've still scored 4 times at least, if not five)

Rodri played in two of their three losses last season, his presence wasn't why they won today. Tuchel changed what was working in order to try out something new in his toughest game of the season and it backfired spectacularly. He probably changed his formation in part because of the Spurs win and also Mount's absence due to injury.

The excuse that day was that Gundogan should have started even though it was as the expense of Gabriel Jesus who played as the striker. My point is that Pep used all the personnel he could use but still lost to Chelsea in that game. City got it right tactically on Saturday while Tuchel was wrong with his approach that was the difference not any single player.

Speculative analysis..people always try to undermine and discredit Chelsea.. Chelsea don't't even play the way they played last season. Lukaku has stagnated their attack.. they were more fluid and constantly interchanging position kept opponent guessing.. making more run in behinds and attacking through the channels as well as making dummy movements to drag/stretch the opposition. Their transition from their defence to attack was way more swift but with Lukaku he plays more central and they use him as their main outlet. The good thing is he drags defenders creating space for the 2 number 10's and wingbacks and linking up play. The negative thing is it has hampered their constant movements they used to do prior to Lukaku and this was the main reason Tuchel froze out Tammy. He doesn't like playing with a traditional number 9.. look at his Dortmund team. He played Aubameyang-Reus-Dembele/Pulisic.. Even his Psg team Neymar-Mbappe-Di Maria. Icardi was barely getting a look in, in the team. Chelsea are more predictable now. Teams have had to man mark lukaku and block the passing lanes through to him so if you have observed Lukaku feeds off from scraps.. They don't have the channels to play through so they go long and he has to win the balls and hold the defender man marking him off. Not only has it affected their style of play, it has affected their pressing game.. Lukaku can't sustain his press, he looks gassed after pressing for a couple of minutes. Quite understandable, he has played in counter attacking systems almost his entire life. You will notice after pressing for a couple of minutes, he drops off and leave his marker. Tuchel uses more systematic and structured press such that if one of your teammates isn't on the same wavelength of the team,it affects it. Chelsea's press is easily bypassed now so they drop off.. I wonder if Tuchel decides to use his 4132/4312(Mainz) or 4141(Dortmund) press he used in the past how Lukaku will fare.. he might pass out lol cause it's more relentless. Tuchel has evolved since then. One thing I don't get is why he uses Alonso when he wants his wingbacks to stay high? He can't beat his man when he's high, attack the byline nor does he have the pace to go by players..he either passes back or over hit his crosses, he has improved on his recovery tackles though credit to him. He slows than counterattacking opportunities. Well I'm not the coach so....

Guardiola Has a Reason for Buying Grealish very swiftly without Bargaining, but hesitate over the price of kane. City has always been the highest scoring club in england,so why does useless pundits think kane is the answer. Grealish did everything to perfection, To guardiola , All he ask of his winger is to commit the defenders and don't get bullied. He gives them license to loose the ball,but always gain it back,close down space and commit them over again. I bet you James & Azpi would have dominated sterling on the left-wing like they did in the CL, And Alonso would have dominated Mahrez on the Right. I believe you made one simple mistake in your analysis. When Chelsea played long balls to Lukaku City defending very well, usually by Laport attacking Lukaku and Dias Setting deeper and keeping a distance from Werner to avoid giving him space to run in behind, and then Dias was able to pick up the ball easily on 1v1 with Werner. Another thing you forgot to mention is the fact that City always pressed with 3 players per region in a triangle shape and tried to push the ball to the corner every time. What do you think?

Chelsea using 3 midfielders meant City could go man for man 3v3 in midfield and man mark them all over the park, with then their two CBs against the two Chelsea strikers. Once Tuchel went from 3-5-2 to 3-4-3 the game changed because City couldn't man mark them in midfield anymore. Havertz really should have started over Jorginho as his lack of mobility made him easy to man mark

TT went with a midfield 3 because it worked against Tottenham. He would've brought on Havertz and/or Ziyech earlier but the injury to Reece changed his mind. But still, Chelsea have faced 4 of the 'big six' and Aston Villa who beat Man Utd, and came away with 13/18 points and 4 clean sheets. Very impressive. After Juventus, Chelsea's next 6 games are relatively smooth sailing. Should be looking at putting together a winning run

I'm no expert on tactical analysis so I appreciate the video and comments. I think City outplayed us basically, won more balls, controlled better, and kept their cool. I feel like Kante usually makes a big impact tirelessly moving the ball from front to back and side to side, but in this game he barely made a dent. Also, I'm feeling like Lukaku, as strong and skilled as he is, hasn't been effective running off the ball or receiving in the last few games. But these are just critiques; there's so much else that is going right for Chelsea we're bound to continue winning.

1- we couldn’t break City’s high press because we did not have a further point to aim for when our fullbacks had the ball. It was a wrong decision to give up our double pivot for a 3 man midfield. We needed more verticality and we lacked Mason Mount’s creativity and we could not compensate with Havertz alongside Lukaku and Werner or Ziyech. For the first time since managing Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel misjudged Pep Guardiola’s Man City.

Still 5-3-2 is more defensive than 5-2-3. No wonder Chelsea concede less goals. If City can be more clinical infront they should not fear of counters because they can out number them by outscoring them but due to the lack of someone who can give them 25+ or 30+ they will be vulnerable in counter attack as always.

This match was satisfying to watch for 1. The most hated club in the world, shutting down any notion that they won't defend their title. 2. Defeating a club who's fans are aiming slightly too high after winning the UCL. 3. Constantly showing that the money poured into the club is not enough, but that the players have to perform in tandem, on a very consistent basis to prove championship mettle.

The changes back to the 3 should have come sooner. If we are going to play that way against the elite sides. We need to change our approach play and hit the front men earlier. Werner needs to be maximum 5 yards distance from Lukaku. We need more third man runners from midfield. Loftus Cheek needs to go in place of Jorghino in midfield.

What made City looks so dominant in this game is that Tuchel choose to go with a front 2 in this game instead of a front 3, and also no creative players in the middle means he would have to rely on the wingbacks a lot to create chances and obviously it backfired after Reece's injury. And the absence of Mason and Pulisic clearly affected them cuz they have no players that can helped the progression of the offense other than Kovacic in the middle who got pinned down by City's high press. That's one of the reasons why Chelsea can beat City numerous times before because of the presence of Mason and Pulisic who could helped with the counter pressing and transition attack against them. Overall it was a well deserved win for them. Kudos to Pep and Tuchel as well for owning up to his mistakes with the selection that he made in this game, which not a lot of managers would do these days.

Havertz mount pulisic and ziyech all play better than him in the no 10 role werner plays behind the oppositions defence, not in front of it, he wouldn't be able to play no10 well all because his pace would be largely unused on offence

@@plckarthik forget people who watch the back of their television. City had the ball for 90 minutes and only scored a deflected shot. They didn't create much before the goal. Tuchel has giving them chance to talk nonsense by allowing his team to sit back and not press high and counter quickly from balls collected in the midfield. I am still trying to figure out why tuchel played the way he did because he had shown that he wasn't such a manager to sit back and defend unless when it's the only option. I loved it against Liverpool before the red card, Liverpool attacking, Chelsea attacking, an interesting game. I expected that against city. I wish we did that and lost than sit back, suffer and get unlucky with that deflected shot. However, it's okay. Because we could have felt like we are unbeatable and relax. Good and bad result, thank God other rivals dropped points too.

Pep is a great coach everyone knows that, there was no way pep was going to lose this one, however it was a lovely match to watch

What my take is,.... Sterling didn't start, hence City's game plan worked perfectly, eventhough they became tired in the 2nd half. Sterling has his way of disrupting City's game. He isn't a team player,he always likes to hold on to the ball, and is very poor at dribbling and ball control, even balance and very poor at passing too, hence he is City's most dispossessed player. City's pressing was also key, even though they still lack this cutting edge that has been missing since David Silva left.

I don't really get why Chelsea is so hyped. If you look at the numerical stats in understat, Tuchel's Chelsea is actually just 'Good', not 'Great' at all. And the match is actually not as equal as people think if you see the capabilities of both team. City have 4 more xP than City (the problem with City is that they lost a reliable striker), 5 more xG, and 4 less xGoal conceded. Liverpool also have 6 more xG than City and 2 less xG conceded, with 4 more xP. This is with Lukaku as a forward, imagine if your chief goalscorer is the low-confidence Werner. It's probably either Liverpool or Man City who would win the league this year (MU if they are super lucky, but they'll likely bottle matches here and there, as shown in that Villa match). I think the real reason Chelsea was hyped is because they won UCL...Well, it just tells you how reliable UCL is in assessing a team's capability.

As a Chelsea fan, I am not disappointed for the result because our performance was very bad, a draw or win for Chelsea is totally harsh comparing with City performance. City is quite scary when they overload the midfield. Jesus is also in a good form playing on the flank. The 352 helped into stopping that and on the counter, Werner is dangerous. But they were too passive not pressing City.

It's because Tuchel tried to outnumber City's midfield to gain possession little more. And that was a mistake by Tuchel. In the second half he brought Havertz in to create three man forward and then he gained some possession. Because City didn't let Havertz to have some space for passing the ball or dictate any attack.

There is a quite twist in tactics on the side of Tuchel because I could see that after the goal the change to bring in harvest helps a lot. But City were the better side.
